Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

If you were in charge of the outfits what would you do differently and why?

Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

I would do sherwanis with straight legged slacks a green stole that was on a brighter green side with silver threadwork!!!

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

I was going to say sherwani's too. Black sherwani's with white shalwars.

Make them come in on rukshas. Lol I could have completely pictured bin laden as afghan flag bearer and then sayin "haha you thought you killed me" into the camera

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

I was going to mention this in a blog. It was like 'seriously?'. Every other country was wearing formal national dress or outfits designed by designers of their country... and Pakistan, sad white shalwar kameez and dull blazers/waistcoats with faces to match. Hubby said they were probably fighting over who was going to carry the flag just before coming out.

I thought sherwanis would have been a great choice as well... ya know, perhaps designed by one of Pak's menswear designers.

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

We have SO many amazing Pakistani designers, imagine how amazing they would have looked dressed in HSY or Deepak Perwani!

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

They looked jetlagged when they came out.

I woulda put them in a funky suit, Jinnah-style

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

They must've been fasting becahrey :(

Re: Pakistan’s Olympic contingent and style

It should have a black sherwani with white shalwar and a green stole…those tacky green vest/waist coat thingies were yuck

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

I think there are few chances to show a rich culture and heritage.. I would have the flag carrier in a sherwani and the rest of the gang in coordinated regional clothing, turbans, caps, and all. the green jacket white pants look can work but maybe officials can wear those and athletes can sport regional cultural clothing.

speaking of clothing, i know syria is in the middle of turmoil so clothing of their gang was probably not high on the list but their suits were way too rigid and tailored poorly.

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

Wish we had more people :(

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

And there was like barely any women

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

I did like the simplicity and soberness of their clothes. Why aren't we Pakistanis never happy with ourselves?

And no they didn't look tired or sad....we see what we wanna see.

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

Unless I was watching a different ceremony, I didn't see the smiles and waves everyone else was sporting, even the countries who are in a situation which is much worse than what Pakistan is currently going through.

And given your style and the fact you like to dress well, I find your comment a strange one. Kinda feel like if everyone had loved it, you would have said you hated it.

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

^It wasn't brilliant but hey it wasn't too bad either,....at least they are out there in clean clothes. I wasn't even expecting to see Pakistani flag in Olympics this year. They didn't have huge smiles on their face but they didn't look gloomy either. Some of them were quite fat and out of shape and only that bit I found strange about them.

Btw I saw the ceremony today and loved every bit of it.

Re: Pakistan's Olympic contingent and style

And yes I agree Pakistani contingent needs improvement on every level.

And the cloned toothbrush head mustache, yaar I would have loved to see some maula jutt style mustaches. :-)

Btw this is a Pakistan thread, there were other teams whose outfits I was not too crazy about, I mentioned the stiff ill fitting suits of Syria, but also I think Ralph Lauren made US athletes look like Sunday brunch at some retiree reunion, and the British white and gold outfits did not do it for me either, was hoping to see colors of the union jack.

Yupp agree with the USA!! It looked liked they walked out of a prep school from the hamptons!! I loved the Brits!! White and gold is always classy!!

I agree the look was rather gloomy. I especially hated the shalwar kameez the women were wearing as if they are wearing a govt school uniform. And the small flags that everyone was waving looked pretty cheesy as well.
I also noticed that when the Pakistanis came out, Bob Costas's voice was all of a sudden so devoid of enthusiasm. It made me kinda sad because he was announcing every other country with so much enthusiasm as if saarey ussi ke chaacha maama lagtey hein.

Our country needs a good PR campaign and soon!
