BANGALORE: The tour selection committee of the Pakistan squad in India will sit down tonight to finalize their team for the six match one-day series against India starting from April 2.

According to sources the tour selection committee that includes the captain, coach, manager and vice captain will decide on which players need to be sent back after the Test series and which players should be asked to join the team for the one-dayers.

“Basically, we will look at our requirements for the one-dayers and then make recommendations to the national selectors. But it is their final decision on the replacements, we can only make the recommendations,” said manager Saleem Altaf.

Indications are that the tour selection committee might decide to send back pacer Muhammad Khalil, leg-spinner Danish Kaneria and batsmen Asim Kamal and Taufeeq Umar and ask for all-rounders Muhammad Hafeez and Yasir Arafat and pace bowler Rao Iftikhar Anjum.

Altaf said there was good news regarding the availability of Shabbir Ahmed who had bowled some overs in a practice match.

“I think if he is available and fit he should join the team for the one-dayers,” he stated.

Altaf said he was in constant touch with chief selector Wasim Bari and so far there was no fresh development on fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar.

“I think we must give credit to Inzamam for doing his best even when three of his main pace bowlers Shoaib, Shabbir and Umar Gul are not available for this tour.”

Why are they bringing back Asim Kamal... What the hell PCB thinks of them selves, these bunch of retards.. They are putting a permanent stamp on ASIM kamal that he is TEST batsman by him self.. at elast give him some respect and chance.. He could show his class in ODI as well..

Yasir Arafat has been in spectacular form, both in domestic as well as in England where he went to play league cricket. I have a feeling he will do well in this outing with the senior team , if picked.

I really doubt PCB looks at "current" pool of players. They only look and pick players who have been tried/debuted 3-4 years ago.... whether those players managed any spectacular performance or not, they'll be recalled. I think PCB's list of beloved players is becoming clear, M Hafeez, M Sami, Younis Khan while the list of 'not-care-much' list consists of Kaneria, Asim Kamal etc.

And he would do the same when tried in the One Days, i.e. prove all the PCB idiots...Taufiq Umer, Shahid Nazir and etc. supporters....

Shoaib Akhtar has been left out of Pakistan’s 16-man squad for the forthcoming one-day series against India, beginning in Kochi on April 2. The selectors decided to provide Akhtar, who pulled out of the Test series owing to a hamstring injury, with more time to reclaim his match fitness. Taufeeq Umar, Yasir Hameed and Mohammad Khalil, all part of the Test squad, were also omitted and would be replaced by Mohammad Hafeez, Rao Iftikhar and Shahid Nazir.

Akhtar resumed bowling earlier this week while Shabbir Ahmed, who was sidelined for the last few months, played a 50-over-a-side match in Karachi on March 24. The board reckoned that Shabbir would also require more time to regain full fitness.

Umar got starts in the two Tests at Mohali and Kolkata but didn’t cash in and make a big score. Hameed and Khalil played in only one game but failed to impress.

Earlier Inzamam-ul-Haq reiterated that he had no problems with Shoaib’s attitude and backed his “best bowler”. The truth is, I personally have nothing against Shoaib," Inzamam told The News. "There is no doubt he is our best bowler and one capable of taking wickets and winning us matches. I don’t care what he does off the field as long as he performs for the team. But the problem with him has been that he wants to play according to his own terms and conditions which is unacceptable to me.

“Yes there have been occasions when I have told the selectors and board, I don’t want him in the team because his behaviour has a bad influence on the younger players. But I again repeat there is no doubt I would like to have him in my team as he is a matchwinner. Tell me which captain or coach would not like to play their main strike bowler. But he has to learn to play with discipline and according to the team requirements.”

for all of you who want asim kamal in the ODI's, he is definitly a very good player, but you cannot play more than four genuine batsmen, and they have to be inzamam, youhana, younis and one opener, so unless asim opens he doesnot fit anywhere, its gonna be hard even to get malik into the side ..........

Shabbir ruled out of ODIs

LAHORE, March 24: Medium-pacer Shabbir Ahmed has been ruled out for the six one-day matches series in the ongoing series against India, chief selector Wasim Bari said on Thursday.

"Shabbir is fit but he is not match-fit and most probably the bowler will be available for the West Indies tour," Bari said. The Pakistan team will be touring the West Indies in May this year.

"It seems unfair to send half-fit player as fitness of player is much important to me and the board," he said. He said that three changes for One-day series, starting from April 2, will be announced on Friday.

Shoaib left out of one-day squad

Pace man Shoaib Akhtar has been left out of Pakistan's squad for the one-day series in India as he recovers from hamstring trouble.

"His fitness has improved substantially but he would require more time to become match-fit," said a statement.

Of the current Test squad, batsmen Taufeeq Umar, Yasir Hameed and seamer Mohammad Khalil are returning home.

Mohammad Hafeez, Rao Iftikhar are flownn in while pace man Shahid Nazir gets a recall after five years.

Nazir played the last of his 17 one-day internationals against Sri Lanka in February 2000. The Pakistan Cricket Board said Shabbir Ahmed has recovered from his long-term knee trouble but will need more time to regain match fitness.

Why the hell have they dropped Yasir? That is a ridiculous decision. I am happy that Asim got his chance in onedayers but it will be really hard for him to make his place in current oneday format we play in.
