Pakistan's new team

What should it look like, assuming only Wasim Akram and Rashid Latif retire from ODI?

For ODI and for Test matches?

NEW Pakistani team

totaly new PCB
coach- Imran Khan

Toufee Umar
(Salim Elahi)
Imran Nazir
(Shahid Afridi)
Inzimam ul Haq (Captain)
Yousuf Youhana (Vice Cap.)
Younus Khan
Azhar Mehmood
Abdul Razzaq
Saqlain Mushtaq
Kamaran Akmal (wicket keeper)
Mohammed Sami
Shoib Akhtar

what the heck is Afridi still doing in the team???

:smack:

If we have good fast bowlers we should exploit that. In my view, our team should have 3 really good fast bowlers. Not bit-players, but those kinda bowlers who will select themselves just based on their bowling, if need be.

ps, and where did I hear that Inzi is also retiring?

Moin Khan will be the next captain

Waqar Younis may step down

Waqar Younis is reported to be considering stepping down from the captaincy of the Pakistan team after his country's failed World Cup campaign, well-placed sources say.

Pakistan, which needs a miracle in Tuesday's rain-marred match against Zimbabwe to sneak through to the Super Six, is now more or less out of the tournament.

And Younis, say the sources, has decided to relinquish the captaincy once the team returns to Pakistan, and not lead it to Sharjah in early-April.

Waqar's decision to bowl the slow bowlers against Australia, which allowed Andrew Symonds to get away, had been cited by former greats as poor captaincy. Besides, he has been severely hampered by the divisions within the team.

With Wasim Akram barred from becoming captain because of the match-fixing controversy, former wicketkeeper Moin Khan is most likely to take over Waqar's job when the captaincy throne falls vacant.

Moin's candidature is likely to gain favour over that of vice-captain Inzamam-ul Haq, who has been desperately out of form of late. He has scored fewer runs than the number of pounds of weight he had lost in the run-up to the tournament.

Inzamam's punch-up with batsman Younis Khan on Monday would also not have particularly brightened the vice-captain's chances of leading Pakistan.

Pakistan, which miserably failed to live up to its reputation as a side which could topple the best on its day, is also planning a series of moves to resuscitate its cricket fortunes.

Akram, whose retirement is not far off, but who still commands considerable influence in the team, has been sounded out about taking over as coach.

Even during the World Cup, Akram had been made a party to the team decisions by coach Richard Pybus and assistant coach Daryl Foster without Waqar being hurt.

did'nt moin turn down the offer to be captain couple of years ago?

I feel Akram has still another year or so left in him as an international player for Pakistan. I don't think he is going to retire now.

As we know senior players like Wasim, Saeed, Moin are retiring after this WC. Which new players should be given chance. What should the new team look like; new coach, new PCB, new players?

Toufee Umar/Salim Elahi
Imran Nazir

Inzimam ul Haq
Yousuf Youhana

Thats the weakest bowling attack ever. Shoaib opens with Sami.... then what... Then we have Saqi as the only geniune bowler. You want Azhar and Afridi to complete 20 over between them.??

Bringing Moin bank will again be an unwise move, as we wont go anywhere except for moving in circles. Bring Moin back in the team for sure But Inzimam shuold be a stop gap captain and later anyone like Youhana or RAzzaq can take over.

First of all this whole report is based on speculation by REDIFF. :smack:

Secondly, Moin is an old horse now. Since we are rebuilding the team from fresh anyway, why saddle it with a person who has no more than a year or two of cricket left in him anyway. And before we forget, there was a reason why Moin was removed from captaincy!

Bringing back Akram as a coach is also dicey. No doubt he is a great player and the best bowler in the world (arguably), still he has a cloud over his cricketing career, and it will be sad, that anytime our team loses, people start speculating about bookies and stuff like that. If possible, Akram should be hired as a bowling coach, but get a proper tactician as the team coach who can also coach the new captain about leading such an erratic bunch of people.

If there is a way, we should hire Mark Tylor or Steve Waugh for the job. Just to drill some spine back in our players.

Though I don't believe a single word from this article, there is a very high chance that Waqar will step down or he will be booted of the captaincy. But making Moin Khan the captain would only reflect on PCB's poor management, as they were the people who took the captaincy from Moin after repeated failiures and handed to Waqar. So they will only be makiing mockery of themselves.

What are the other choices for the captaincy.

Inzimam, Saeed, Saqlain, Razzaq, Rashid Latif, who else?

And also hire a translator for each one. :hehe: WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN SPEAK THE LANGUAGE THAT PLAYERS UNDERSTAND! English is not it!

My perception of Inzimam is a silent oberver on field, even as a vice captain. But he has been kept vice captain for a while, so we can try him for a year.

Has Saeed been utilised as a formal captain?

Saqlain is not "leadership" material.

Razzaq/Yousuf Youhanna are probably good candidate after Inzi.

Rashid already announced his retirement from ODI after his neck problems.

My own idea would be:

Saeed Anwar
Taufeeq Umer/Imran Nazir
() Inzimamul Haq
(
) Yousuf Youhanna
Faisal Iqbal/Misbah/Hasan Raza
+Kamran Akmal
Abdul Razzaq
Saqlain Mushtaq
Mohammed Sami
Shoaib Akhtar
Waqar Younis (if he is not retiring)

Taufeeq Umar (keeper)
Saleem Elahi
Younis Khan
Shahid Afridi
Inzamam
youhana
razzaq
mahmood
sami
shoaib
shoaib malek

Well I don't know any young talents in country cricket rightnow but calling back old horses like Moin Khan would only harm the team. And who ever said Rashid Latif is retiring, the only 2 man certain of retiring is Waqar and Wasim. And both defintly deserve it.
There is one man in the team who should never ever be part of the Pakistani team unless they are playing hong kong sixes. And his name is Shahid Afridi. You know I had high hopes from this guy, I thought he was just young and as soon as he had experience he would play like a professional but never changed, he is still talented as they come but we don't need hot headed freaks in the team. He scores in double digits every 10 innings, and he comes in and takes wickets every now and then, that is not going to cut it.
Saeed is still around for a year or 2.

Rashid Latif suffered back and neck injury around or just before World Cup when he said that after WC he will leave ODI arena.

Waqar, on papers is only 32 years old, he must be able to play on around 2-3 years more. Most likely captaincy has ruined his performances, once he gives up as a captain, I'm sure he will come back as fearsome bowler.

Physically I think Waqar can still play but his reputation is now ruined as both a player and a bowler, none of the selectors will have faith in him. And plus having a ex captain and the current captain in the team will definatly cause some trouble in the team.

And Waqar is much older than what he says he is, thats the habit of almost all the Pakistani players.

Lots of team in the world have played their teams like this i.e. ex-captain still playin in team. It shouldn't be a problem if Waqar is not retiring and has some sportsmanship in him.

The new team I think would/should be

1 Taufeeq Umar
2 Imran Nazir
3 Yousuf Yohana
4 Inzi
5 Younis Khan
6 Kamran Akmal
7 Razzaq
8 Saqlain
9 Shoaib Akhtar
10 Sami
11 Waqar

As I said earlier we can start grooming Taufeeq to keep wickets too. So if we have something wrong going on with the bowling or batting department we can give it a little cushion by dropping Kamran and asking Taufeeq to keep wickets.

The only problem with the above mentioned team is the lack of quality all rounders. Razzaq is the only one who can bat and ball reasonably well. Kamran played some decnet little knocks agaisnt Zimbabwe but I doubt he will be very effective agaisnt quality oppositions. We can try putting Azhar Mahm in the side if our batting doesnt improve. He might be able to provide some stability. Shoaib Malik would not be a bad inclusion either. He is a decent off spinner who can really bat. So we do have a few options. Lets hope the board makes the right decisions.

As far as the captain is concerned, Inzi's form is so poor I dont know if we so should put more pressure on him by making him the captain. I think YoYo would be a good choice as his place in the side is cemented.
