Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

Is there some historical aspect to why there’s such strong racism towards Blacks from Pakistanis? Or is this idea somehow attached to Pakistanis not liking darker skin?

Recently, couple of my friends went to Pakistan for their friends wedding in Karachi. One of the guys who went, is an African American. To keep it short, his experience didn’t go so well! He said, he wasn’t able to walk around carefree and just enjoy shopping or eating because he felt like there were always locals judging him or passing comments because he is Black.

Bunch of us Pakistani’s had told him about the general perception of Pakistani’s towards Africans, but truly I hadn’t expected it to be THIS bad.

So what is the reason for such strong discrimination?

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

This is just sad. I like Akon.

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

Er. From my experience, some Pakistani's have the view that all black people are chors, druggies, and a bunch of no-good criminals. Not saying I agree, but some Pakistanis' do have some pretty racist views.

I guess if he went to Pakistan, it's gonna be more amplified and he'll stand out more.

I still get random relatives who come off the plane from Pakistan to London and are stunned by how many black people there are who mix with every one else. Not sure I understand the whole 'OMG' factor myself really.

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

well...... besides the dark skin stigma.....

the fact of the matter is.......there is no reason/unusual for a legit black man to be roaming around in pakistan........because a lot of drug traffickers....nigerians etc.......are those who come to paksitan and smuggle narcotics n stuff........so its only natural for people to assume that..

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

In UK, when it comes to religious people you'll see a lot of Pakistanis and black people having good relations. The hostility exists only among the gangs of British Pakistani and black boys or among the Pakistani and non-muslim black crowd (especially in Birmingham and Slough).

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

This sounds like bunch of BS to me!

There are so many generalizations about Blacks, and this is one.

In the US, people who discriminate against Blacks are for the same reasons Maddy mentioned. And if you understand US history of slavery than you can understand why Blacks became druggies/ criminals. It was their way of "retaliating" against the White man. But that's just a small Black population who are now generalized to a much grander scale.

But I don't understand the hate from Pakistanis towards Blacks. As of right now, it's baseless.

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

well......it may sound like BS to you.......but you don't live here do you??

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

:hehe:

Talk about stereotyping. I wonder if you would be this accommodating if a white cop stopped a Muslim for wandering around a small town in the US south because, as you say, they have no reason for being there.

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

So every single Black man coming into Pakistan is a drug dealer?

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

Also, the only explanation to them being in that small town is to blow something up :hehe:

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

who said every single black man??

you tell me........... why would a black man come here??

only two possibilites......... there are some students in universities here.......and pakistan doesn't have much relations with african countries.......... and there is always news..at least once every month.......that some nigerian was apprehended trying to smuggle drugs......

i am just stating the reasons why people are racist.......not condoning any of their behaviour....

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

The way I see it, there's no LOGICAL explanation for looking down at black people, it's just a prejudice many Pakistani's have grown up with.

It's like, over here where I am, some Pakistanis' look down on Bengalis because they consider them ugly/inferior. No valid reason to do, Bengalis have done well for themselves but they are just considered 'different', even though both groups are Muslims.

It's just a silly perception thing that some people - ESP the older generations! - seem to have.

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

actually i will… if white folks hate on brownies…its understandable why they would do that… there are reasons for them to believe so…rightly or wrongly.

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

Pakistan is not as diverse a society as the western world so Pakistanis would understandably be a lot more apprehensive of a non-desi walking around in their locality. Where I live, there aren't many mozlems. I get stared at all the time when I go shopping etc. Adults look away immediately when I acknowledge the fact that they're staring at me but kids just stand there watching me as if I'm an alien from another planet. Doesn't bother me one bit because I know they're just curious. I used to feel uneasy in the beginning but gotten used to it now.

You haven't given many details of what exactly he experienced in Pakistan but if it was just an uneasy feeling that people are staring at him and perhaps commenting at him I think it's normal. People do the same to goras... remember George ka Pakistan? I remember in one episode he was trying to look for a bus stop and got lost in some bazaar and specifically made a comment about how uncomfortable he felt with the way people were lookin at him. Does that mean Pakistanis are also racist towards the white people or simply that they've probably never seen a white person before and are just being creepy about it? When we visited the northen areas of Pakistan, it felt like the locals were in awe of the tourists... they would sit there staaaaaring at you, even the adults... and we are brown from head to toe like!

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

the kaala rang is a big turnoff for desi people..........the kala, be it paki or african......would be looked down upon equally......

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

Way to promote Pakistan! Anyone stepping there should have sound, believable reasons to be in Pak, right. Oh wait, what about the whites who roam there, they dont have any reason to be there either, do locals harass them as well?

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

i am not promoting....i am just stating the facts.......... about why people behave the way they do....

as BBQ said.......we don't have 'multi-culturual' society.......you can't expect people to be meh about different looking people walking amongst them..........they will look, stare, do whispers etc etc.......

the hating/disgusting for black folks is due to kaala rang......

and the OP gay'a needs to explain what exactly happened to her black friend........

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

I agree BBQ, about the staring part. People would stare at a gora too, just because you don't see many foreigners in Pakistan.

BUT. The fact of the matter still is, that Blacks are seen nothing better than an animal. That is something I have heard from aunties and uncles who don't even live in Pakistan. THIS is something I'm not able to comprehend.

WHAT HAPPENED for desi's to look at Blacks with such a negative perspective? That's why I was asking if there is some historical aspect to this.

If you tell a Pakistani, you're living with a Black person, they FREAK OUT!! As if you're unsafe or something. This type of mentality certainly cannot be good for our people, right?

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

Ok agreed about Pakistanis dislike for dark skin. One thing that doesnt make sense to me is for a nation that does the whole song and dance about religion, why it completely disregards what the religion has to say about preference over skin tone, race?

Re: Pakistanis Racist Towards Africans

if you can go find the 'historical' reason for why gora rang is preferred over kaala........you have your answer...
