you could always get a shoot done just by yourself with your family. you can ask your photographer and he will definitely arrange t hat.
as for the makeup stuff don't worry, it's all in time. your makeup won't get dull. they do it real well. infact you would probably come home like an hour before the function starts (and all the guests arrive) and in that hour you could have even more pictures taken.
