Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

On the average people are paying between 30000 to 50000 bills per month which translates roughly into $300 to $500 per month which makes Pakistani electricity amongst the most expensive in the whole world. On top of this during the current month people are receiving bills which 2-3 times more as compared to the same month of the previous year. While the government is up to its sneaky ways, I’ll have to give it to the Pakistani public as well who keep paying these bills without questioning their government officials.

In the last month alone the government has earned about 70 billion rupees in the form of electricity bills (including fuel surcharge). Mind you the ‘poor’ people who pay the bills also account for the electricity used by rich defaulters.

By the way the customers are paying exorbitant amounts for having electricity for half the day. Yes you got it right the electricity load shedding has again increased to between 12-20 hours. No more camps offices in minar e Pakistan and no more shouts of unfair treatment to Punjab.

Electricity shock:

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

I heard this month they increased more

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

No Nooras will come in this thread now

When kaptaan burnt his bills they were screaming all the way

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

^ PMLN is intelligent that they increased electricity bills at the end of summers last year, people are facing the pain now. The government still needs to increase the bills to satisfy the IMF. Why bother with tackling the electricity theft?

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

I hope the lions won't cry paying their electricity bills. This is what happens when you vote for those who don't care for your plight.

When people r unable to pay inflated power bills this month,442parliamentarians to collect Rs25m as 15 days long joint session allowance...!

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

That is mainly because Pakistan is the only country in the region who is dependent on Fossil fuel to produce electricity... and so called leaders who are dying with the pain on common people are not doing anything in their province to produce low-cost electricity to replace the expensive electricity...

And why would they do so!!! they would do anything to protect oil-mafia who never want to see Pakistan shifting its power-mix to coal or hydro from fossil fuel...

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

^ by the way the issue is due to the political parties ruling this country during the past three decades.

Don’t pay power bills: Kejriwal
Social activist leads protest against Delhi governmentSocial activist Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday led a protest against the Delhi government on power tariff hike and asked people not to pay electricity bills. The protest was the first after his split with Anna Hazare. Around 300-400 people gathered at Jantar Mantar where Mr. Kejriwal announced a new ‘Civil Disobedience Movement,’ asking people not to pay the bills if the Sheila Dik**** government did not order an audit by the Comptroller and Auditor-General of private discoms (power distribution companies).

Mr. Kejriwal said Mr. Hazare lived in their hearts and expressed the hope that he “will come back to them in three-four months once he sees our honest and dedicated work.”

“None can take him [Mr. Hazare] away from us. It is just that while he believes that politics is a dirty thing, we are of the view that we have to enter politics to clean it,” he said.

Mr. Hazare and his supporters, including Kiran Bedi, parted ways with the Kejriwal-led group on September 19 over the anti-graft movement taking a plunge into politics.

The protest, which is seen as a prelude to the group’s formal entry into politics, demonstrated the keenness of Mr. Kejriwal to fight the Delhi Assembly elections slated next year as it targeted the Congress government in the capital.

The group, which has decided to form a party, has earlier indicated that it will not fight the Assembly elections in BJP-ruled Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh scheduled later this year, as it could not get its act together there.
**Bills set ablaze: **At the protest, people set afire electricity bills, alleging there was collusion between the city government and the discoms to increase power tariff and help private companies earn more.

Mr. Kejriwal accused the Prime Minister of lying on the issue of FDI and diesel price hike. “The Prime Minister terms capping supply of subsidised LPG cylinders and diesel hike reforms. This is not reform but deforming the country,” he said.

Mr. Kejriwal alleged that the Delhi government and private discoms were conniving together to “loot” people.

On forming a political party, he said, “They say I am doing politics. Yes, I am doing politics. **We are doing politics for the people. **They do politics to indulge in corruption.”

Activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan contested Chief Justice of India S.H. Kapadia’s remark that ‘loss is a matter of fact and profit and gain is a matter of opinion,’ saying such statements were “unfortunate.”

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

So let the issue drag and do nothing about it, the Massiah is ruling the province which can produce upto 7-10 K MW from hydro.. sorry to say... nothing is done in this regard... only agitation... and now you are saying it is political parties... no it is misplaced priorities of leaders of these political parties... there are no political parties in Pakistan, there are 5/6 persons who have grouping... in Afghanistan we call them war-lords here he call them head of political parties..

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

^ the party in kpk has made a few small dams operational during the past year. Any miracles in Punjab by the government which is known for its good governance, after all it's their 7th straight year in power? There used to be a lot of noise regarding Nandi pur during zardari's time which is being used to produce electricity at rs 40 per unit. These are the policies which contribute in increasing the generation costs.

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

How is the scam dam Nandipur working? Or is it working at all? Is it producing cheaper electricity?

The Sharif Family spent quite a lot of public money to advertise their faces on the dam.

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

when your capacity is in 7-10,000 MW and you make few dams of 10-20 MW operational which started in last tenure... question is, how many projects they initiated.. here is a hint, plz get me latest on this... there is Run-of-River Project on Kunhar River , the project can produce upto 900MW, in 2008, the project was approved, PPA was under discussion... ANP/PPP govt did nothing... and seems like PTI govt is not even remotely interested in starting this project, where investment is ready, feasibility study is ready, where delay is because of non-existent political will!!!

When PTI won KPK, i was hoping against the hope that they will focus on this sector and would shine and rise in national horizon... but here what we are discussing that because SS have not done it... we are not going to do it.. what a lame way to resolve an issue...

but then why would PTI would want to provide relief to the pakistani people...

yeah let us get back to political discussion, where everything which IK does is right for IK people... every thing NS does is right for NS people and every thing Zardari does is right for Zardarii people...

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

Simple, supply and demand reasons. If supply is less than demand, the prices will go up. However sub se barhay bijli chor KP main to IK ke log hain. If this chori is stopped all over Pakistan, may result in decrease in prices. jo bijli chor hain un ko sochna chaiay.

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

^ oh it working great, it put enough money in sharif's pocket

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

?????how? WAPDA does not own by Sharifs.

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

I was talking to jolie about Nandi pur project

Re: Pakistanis paying highest electricity bills in the region

It has been long fed to people in KPK that the power generated in their province is 'stolen' (taken away by other provinces) and they are forced to very high prices for their own electricity, I don't think it will go away so easily. However, in last year I read few news articles about people giving up kundas, I hope it is true.
