hard to understand…so many of these surveys always indicate that over 80% of pakistanis want sharia
If such an overwhelming majority of pakistanis want implementation of shariah then ppp, mqm, anp, pml n and pti should not be getting any votes - and yet 99% public votes for them and not Jamaat e Islami which with all its faults is the most democratic, clean and upright islamist party in pakistan with a very clear narrative on how to implement shariah.
now if the answer is that these surveys are crappy and a western conspiracy, then of-course we cannot have any discussion…but just go out in any pakistani market yourself and ask people this question and most likely you will find an affirmative answer on implementation of sharia
I think it is simple, they don't trust the current thekeydaars of Islam.
good point but do you mean to say that if there is a trust worthy muslim party in pakistan who wants to implement sharia then Pakistanis would vote for them?
hard to believe this considering pakistanis didnt vote for jamat islami even when it was a pretty pure party back in early 70s
what kinda a Muslim will say 'NO' to Sharia? it may constitute 'blasphemous'. fear-factor comes into play. voting for the one or the other party is another matter. no one will see him/her who he/she voted for.

agreed...these so-called sharia lovers in pakistan are just normal folks....as pious as one can be in our dysfunctional society and as corrupt - both ideologically and functionally - as PMPN/PPP/PTI/MQM politicians are (scope and size of corruption is obviously different), hence he will always vote for these parties .... but yes, if you ask anyone in pakistan, he will claim to be a sharia lover as he sees his religious responsibility to say this..
but i guess everyday he quietly prays god that payaray allah mian do not send any sharia our way ... hence zero votes for poor JI!

althought i must that this whole issue of muslims love for sharia is not that simple either. there is more to it. The problem with the mainstream or so called moderate muslims is much more deep rooted. On one hand they yearn for some utopian shariah or caliphate and on the other hand migrate to secular canada, australia and west at the first opportunity so that their kids can enjoy the amenities of infidel west.
Most of us are essentially confused ideologues and bigots in conflict with modernity. And when this bigotry manifests itself in the form of taliban or ISIS - the last stage of cancer, like a drug addict we again accuse west to be behind such outfits.
Yes, PPP has Mao Zedong in the form zardari. Voters are very well aware of socialist structure and PPP has done a lot of reforms in sindh out of their socialist agenda. Lagi na? :D
Better luck next time. Every one knows here that I'm not a PPP Jiyala. By bringing PPP out of no where (just becuase you think I support them) is bhoondi harkat to deviate the discussion. Don't try to turn this discussion into racist Sindhi mantra with your myopic Jamati mentality.
Just like I removed the sugar in post#14 which you coated on ppp pills in post#13, provoked you. Even you wont help but would reply this post childishly.
Whats the point for which you need reply?
I'm not illusionist who did not take 'aqal ke nakhooon' after seeing all the blood shed due to b1oody Mullas having wet dreams of so called version of sharia fitting their agendas. My point is very clear. I DO NOT want man made (man interpreted) sharia to affect my life. Put your case instead of deviating the discussion.
