Pakistan attacks: Officials feed suspicion that India, US are to blame | csmonitor.com

Lahore, Pakistan - A fresh wave of terror attacks that has killed more than 100 people across Pakistan in the past few days is fueling conspiracy theories that the United States and India are behind the violence, and officials are stoking the popular perception.

On Tuesday, a truck bomb set off at a security checkpoint in the city of Multan in central Pakistan claimed 12 lives, including some civilians.
Analysts say government officials are blaming recent attacks on a “foreign hand” (usually a euphemism for regional rival India) in an effort to shift attention from their inability to provide adequate security.
Monday’s attacks on the eastern city of Lahore and the northwestern city of Peshawar were blamed on “foreign elements” by Punjab Province’s law minister, Rana Sanaullah, and the North West Frontier Province’s senior minister, Bashir Ahmed Bilour, respectively.

While Pakistan and India have a long history of pointing fingers at each other in times of internal strife, the Pakistani accusations have multiplied along with the rising number of terrorist attacks in Pakistan. Recent targets have included mosques and markets, as opposed to exclusively hitting facilities associated with security forces.

Some Pakistanis say that while the Taliban have targeted Pakistan’s security forces for their “collusion” with the US (killing civilians as collateral damage), the Islamic militants would not gratuitously kill civilians.
“Obviously this is the work of the Indians and Americans,” says Viqar Khan, a rickshaw driver in Lahore when questioned about the recent strikes. “If the Taliban had done it they would say so, because they don’t lie.”
Analysts dismiss the theories

According to security analyst Hassan Askari-Rizvi, the idea that India may be behind the terror attacks is “a very widely shared perception, but there’s hardly any evidence to substantiate that. They [the militants] have attacked civilians in the past. I think the government consciously creates that confusion.”
“It is easy to communicate [this idea to] people who are already somehow convinced because of religious arguments that everyone is against Pakistan because we’re the only Muslim nuclear power,” says Mr. Askari-Rizvi. “This is a faith-based argument, not an argument based on reason.”

That view is shared by Badar Alam, a senior editor at Herald magazine, a leading Pakistani monthly.

“Both the intelligentsia and the government are behind the latest trend [of blaming India] because it absolves them of responsibility of doing anything to stop it,” he says.

Shock and blame

Monday’s attack on a crowded marketplace in the eastern city of Lahore, which killed more than 40 people, and last Friday’s attack on a mosque in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, which also killed 40 people, have shocked many here in a way that past attacks haven’t.

Pakistani news channels have played lengthy tributes to the victims of the blasts while newspaper editorials have ruminated on security breaches at length.

In Lahore’s busy Main Market, many express their anger at the Taliban, but also wonder out loud how the militants are being trained and equipped.
“What can one say about these people? May God guide them and show them the true path. Suicide bombings are not lslamic,” says Zarina Ali, a housewife. But, she adds, India or America may be funding the militants.

Others go further still, like Ghulam Mustafa, a banker, who suggests that the Taliban “don’t really exist” and that the bombers are “Indians in disguise.”
Such views are counterproductive, according to Mr. Alam. “This is a dangerous trend,” he says. “It says there is nothing within this society which we need to fix.”

Re: Pakistanis blame India for violence

Talibans are deficient of resources , they neither have so much sophisticated training nor have technical expertise to carry out terrorist operations in urban areas. India's involvement is MUST. It is only in the interest of Indian RAW to target innocent women and children. RAW has always been involved in such cruel crimes. Even if Talibans are involved, who is backing them? who is funding their ''MILTARY''? Who is training them. It's none other than our worst enemy Hindustan.

Re: Pakistanis blame India for violence

I have a feeling that the real RAW/Mossad/CIA infiltrators must be Zaid Hamid, Ahmad Quraishi and their ilk.

No one has the potential to ruin Pakistan's future than these idiots with their nonsense.

Every time I see someone following Zaid Hamid and his BS, my hope for Pakistan's future sinks one more step :( :(

Re: Pakistanis blame India for violence

we can safely say zaid hamid is the leader of this movement the politicians are latching onto.

i must admit, i do closely follow zaid hamid even though i do not approve all of his vision.

he has recently started talking about a military role for pakistan ordinary children. who out of you guys want a polarised (read militant) youth? should the aim not be to preserve the innocence of youth? it gives me great uncomfort to hear someone say we need an armed child militia in our cities.

we have a miltary for that, but mr zaid is not willing to utter one word against it nevermined ask for accountability, as far im aware this is because his father was in the military plus any payments he may be receiving from them

The people like ZH, AQ and SM are the only ray of light left for us. Our politicians have never got courage to expose India and US.

Re: Pakistanis blame India for violence

What do you mean by "expose"? All Zaid Hamid does is offer ridiculous conspiracy theories without a shred of evidence and his audience laps it up because it is easy to blame it all on mansoobay and plots as compared to the reality of the evil living among us.

The only thing Zaid Hamid "exposes" is his low IQ and the bleak future in front of Pakistan.

this is a heavy question please ignore if your not upto answering it

are you ready to, dependent on your age to arm yourself or your child with a gun, to protect pakistans conspiracy derived 'interests'?

can you tell the tribal pakhtuns of af/pak to regard pakistans majburi to be more important then bullets entering their own chests?

zaid hamid brutally exposed!

Don't spread lie bout RAW/India, India/RAW was never involved in any terror activity EVER... I am going to write a big bad letter to (FAS) Federation of Amreekan Scientists for spreading the following lie bout good little India.

** Throughout the Afghan war, “the RAW was responsible for the planning and execution of terrorist activities in Pakistan” to deter Pakistan from supporting the Afghan liberation movement against India’s ally, the Soviet Union. The assistance provided to the RAW by the KGB enabled it to “arrange terrorist attacks in Pakistani cities throughout the Afghan war.” **

its unimaginable that raw, if not other af/pak based agencies are not involved in the arming of the talibs. this is a problem but pakistan is being fought by af/pak born people, zaid hamid is not coductive to their needs. without giving these people a genuine reason not to fight pakistan the fight is lost. so he is driving people up the wrong street even if he has told some truths

Re: Pakistanis blame India for violence

Zaid Hamid is exposed ... yes he is exposed and also exposed the tactics of enemies of Pakistan. how they are operating in Pakistan, what techniques they are following to carry out hidden agendas, and once you identify your enemies and intents its easier to cleanse ourself from evil of TTP idiots and people who are in Pakistan for sole purpose of destablising Pakistan.

other vision he always promote is Ideology of Iqbal, which we may have forgot about it now, he want revive that, create sense of belongingness and being a nation based on a very right ideology. One need to understand Iqbal first to comment on Mr Hamid's thoughts.

Now you may not agree what he says, He makes his point, you make yours, let people decide. Its always hard to counter when whole manipulated media and environment around us is not reality or truth by far. people like Zaid Hamid considered to be just conspiracy theorists.

If you are objecting to it, its your right, and not your fault even.

Re: Pakistanis blame India for violence

Well india and indians always continuesly blame Pakistan for every mishap in india
now that its the other way around why "mirchi laghi?", i ask myself.

Re: Pakistanis blame India for violence

^^ rightly said, even when Pakistan is involved or not, its always Pakistan. Pakistani govt somehow always believe in back channel diplomacy to convey such messages.

lets admit it all intelligence agencies around the world are not angels. they do stuff to harm enemies or to gain something out of for long term goals. ISI, CIA, RAW, MOSSAD, KHAD, KGB all operate covert and overt operations. and these operations also include creating havoc in other countries and they all do it.

recent years Pakistan got busy in every front and overwhelmed with agencies all over the world engaging Pakistan for some common interests and TTP is just small pawn in this braod game played in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Re: Pakistanis blame India for violence

Pakistan and Pakistanis are survivers.
On one side Indian , other side Iran and Afghanistan
then USA and Israel
then Terrorists funded by foregn powers and home grown idiots who listen to foreign powers

we can will all of them and defeat any devilish plan of theirs.

Pakistan Zindabad
Zinda dillon ki quam
will always be there till the end of days.

Re: Pakistanis blame India for violence

Since they have the ammo the Taliban use and they are infact foriegn made, that is obvious enough evidence that foriegn powers are involved.

:rotfl:

So when Hezbollah fired on Israeli Tanks with Russian Anti-Tank Missiles, Israelis concluded that Russia must be held accountable?

The Ammo for the Taliban is obviously stolen, smuggled, etc.. no country gives them ammo. they finance purchases of the ammo from black market dealers and finance it through Opium Trade.

Zaid Hamid and his ilk has failed utterly to provide a SINGLE piece of evidence linking the TTP to India/US or any other country.

There is ZERO evidence.

Either put up or shut up.

Why is it unimaginable?

Can't these guys fund their insurgency with radical charities, blackmailing, robberies, opium trade like the FARC did in Colombia?

TTP is 100% Pakistani funded and created.

Blaming India is typical excuse to blame away all the problems in Pakistan.

TTP is the enemy of Pakistan no doubt. But they are 100% Pakistani funded and organized. They fund themselves through robberies, charities and opium trade.

All Zaid Hamid has exposed is how stupid he is and how stupid so many people are that actually believe his nonsense.

Before preaching Iqbal, he needs examine Pakistan's own history.

Where was the belonging with the Muslim Bengalis whom we discriminated against and they decided to leave and form their own country?

Where was the belonging with the Balochis whose resources we have used but not compensated them?

Why are there so much ethnic violence in Pakistan? Muhajir vs Sindhi, Sunni vs Shia, Balochi vs Punjabi, etc....

He needs to first preach about brining Pakistanis together instead of his grandoise vision of the entire muslim world.

He is a conspiracy theorist if he doesnt have any proof.

Give me ONE single evidence that he has presented to support his stupid arguments

Now Shri Mullen is spreading lie bout good little India

Mullen says raised Balochistan issue with India

Who are these Black Market dealers?
Isn’t US the biggest ammo/weapon maker in the world?
