Where the **** was the security?

Can’t imagine this happening at the Statue of Liberty or Lenin’s Tomb.

Pakistan is a total disaster if it doesn’t even have enough security to protect people in its most famous sites.

The newly-wed victim was visiting the mausoleum

A woman has been raped in the complex containing the mausoleum of Pakistan’s founder in Karachi city, police say.

The victim, who has not been identified, went missing two days ago on a visit to the mausoleum of Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

She was visiting the city with her husband from the central province of Punjab, police say.

Karachi, Pakistan’s only port and its largest city, has a high rate of crime, including kidnappings and rape.

“The rape took place in a room in the museum within the mausoleum compound,” Superintendent of Police, Niaz Khoso, told the BBC.

“After she recorded her statement, we searched the premises.”

“We found pieces of her clothing, bits of hair and other pieces of evidence,” he said.

The woman recorded her statement with the police after a medical examination at a local hospital.

According to her statement and that of her husband and family members, she arrived in Karachi from the central Pakistani town of Lodhran three days ago.

The newly-wed 19-year-old victim said she was kidnapped at gunpoint by two men from the gate of the mausoleum on 15 March.

She told police she was drugged and then raped by her kidnappers and other men who later joined them.

In the meantime, her family reported her as missing to the local police.

On 17 March, the victim was found in a drugged state by paramilitary personnel on guard duty at the mausoleum.

She was handed over to the police, who got in touch with her family.

Only if the justice was swift and harsh punishments handed out in cases like these , these kind of crimes will go down.

Pakistan is still a very male dominated society. Women need more power and women need to voice actively to get more power.
I don't think many people understand how devestating an experience like this is for a person. Most people don't fully recover from this until decades later.

Rape should carry an instant death penalty

Especially in the village areas.

Anyone who authorized rape, or carried rape should be executed immediately.

Or better yet, send some black and redneck inmates from USA to gang rape them

its time to store DNA of all the one time criminals if not of everyone, so cases like these can be easily dealt with. i think NADRA is storing biometrics for everyone but not DNA yet. they should do that. it may be against human rights but will be good in country like PAkistan

its sad that Jinnah site was a crime scene, this has dual meaning, no protection for women in jinnah's Pakistan.

Well one of the security gurad has been identified by the victims as alleged perpetrator.

M2K you are overexaggerating a bit. Contrary to popular perception rapes do happen in Western societies despite all the freedom etc. (and quite frequently I might add). Only recently two serial rapists (one had killed about 6 prostitutes, and the other had lured 4 or 5 girls by posing as a lottery winner and strangled them afer raping them) have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the UK. Plus you hear about girls getting raped and killed almost on a weekly (if not daily) basis

The problem if anything is more understandable (although there is never a justification for such evil crimes) in Pakistan. Rape is underreported for obvious social reasons. What do you expect when for the vast majority of our teenagers the first contact with females outside their families happens at university level!

Why do we need to compare everything with what happens in West ? What is the need to do so in this case ? Can you please explain it to me ?
Irrespective of what happens in West rape is a very devastating for women in our society. The victim is treated as untouchable although it is not her fault at all. If you need to compare just compare what happens to the victims of rape in Western society and our society, instead of comparing the frequency and rate of rape crimes.
There should not be a single rapist in a country created in the name of Islam. If that is too idealistic then at least it should not be so easy for people to rape women at such a public place and get away with it. One security guard identified , I hope others will be caught too but the case will dragged on for years and the victim and her family will suffer more for years to come because of all this delayed justice.
Justice delayed is justice denied , period.

^ Mirch lussi piyo aur thand rakho :) I am not comparing A with B. All I am saying is that rape is a global problem because there are a lot of sick men around who just cannot control their emotions. I am all for catching the offenders and giving them exemplary punishments. Thats all

Of course rapes happen in the West

I am commenting on the fact that it happened in such a prominent location as Jinnah's Tomb

When was the last time you heard of a rape occuring in the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Lenin's Tomb, Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, etc....

The fact that it happened in such a sacred location just shows how pathetic Pakistan has become

I remember in the UK a teenage girl was raped in a famous superstore in women's toilet by a psycho.
But still this news is more shocking as it was kinda sacred place to pakistanis and the victim wasn't alone but with her husband.
