Qrius...thanks! :)

Gerrard Street in TO, I have been there, basically they sell Indian style cloths in an expensive rate. Not much different variaty.

I bought just ordinary cloth from there and let it get made in Pakistan and I must say it turned out :k:

But you should be happy that atleast you have some kinds of shops, we have to get our cloths from back home :frowning:

so who is the lucky bride ?

Are congratulations in order Mehnaz?

Ditto  i have been there too last year , and my sis in law bought a indian lehnga for 1600$ for her wedding , there was nothing special abt it lakin pirr bhi itna mehnga .

I don't know! I just don't like it. It's o.k. to go once in a while, but it's not some place I would go on a regular basis.

...and i thought ppl usually shop for the wedding dresses once in a life time and not on a regular basis.

most of the stores stink
the dresses are old styles, baggy…ooper neechey khinchey hue
the fabrics of the dresses are very bad
and most importantly, the way embroidery is done is :nook: just don’t have words to describe it

Although, as Sadia said…some of the stores do have some good quality fabric …usually for wedding dresses etc…get them and make dresses in pakistan.

I was referring to visiting the restaurants when I said I prefer going down to Gerrard Street occassionally.

Jal Pari: I totally agree with you. The stores do smell, which is probably why I can't stand going down there.

If you dont like gerrard street - go to fabric land. Its not desi , so im sure you'll be happy :p.

yes they have alot in New Jersy and New York.. and thr are couple of sites whr you can order it from Internet(all the way from pakistan)

Some of the store that qrius mentioned are quite nice.
There's also the Albion/Islington area. I'm not sure how far you are from there...but some of the stores there are pretty good.
Up until a few years back, I remember seeing commercials on tv for "Zedd's". I don't think they had an actual store. It was more like a home business (or so I heard.) They did custom design by appointment. The dresses that I saw were superb! I'm not sure where they've disappeared to, but I'll try to find some info and will let you know.

Regarding Gerrard, better to stay away from that place, as most mentioned. It's one major headache.

My personal favourite place to get authentic and classy Pakistani clothes is Sonia's Collection. I've checked out Oriental Costumes but they are just over priced.

Thanks for your tips everyone!

Sonia's Collection is on Dundas Street close to Oakville behind the large Silver City and that plaza. It's on Dundas and Ridgeway...Ridgeway being the same street where Oriental Costumes is.

Does anyone know of any websites for such outfits?

:hehe: This is very true.
