I agree. People who can afford should install solar cells instead of gas/diesel generators while at same time government should invest in wind farming and obtain nuclear power (alongwith putting an end to power theft).

The Pepco deficit will reach 300 billion today against the allocated 122 billion.. This is in spite of huge load shedding.. Imagine without load shedding where this deficit will reach.
Power sector needs long term/short term planning. We need to find cheaper energy sources and the best bet is construction of dams.. KBD is absolutely necessary if we want to survive as a viable economic entity.. the cost of not making KBD is unaffordable for the nation whose future has been held hostage for the sake of petty politics..!!!

Budget 2011-12 informed all interested in Pakistani budgets that Wapda will lose Rs122 billion. That was a lie, a figure that deliberately disregarded the truth with a clear-cut intention to deceive, especially the IMF.** For the record, Wapda had lost Rs295 billion in 2010-11.**
According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Pakistan’s installed power generation capacity stands at 21,998 MW. Intriguingly, Pepco’s computed demand hover around 16,000 MW. Clearly, capacity exists to meet demand. Why loadshedding?
The Pepco claims that it buys expensive electricity but sells it to consumers at less than what it costs-with the Government of Pakistan (GoP) promising to fill the gap. But when the gap arises GoP is unable to fill it because the provisioning in the budget is insufficient.\ In other words, the Pepco’s losses during 2011-12 were going to be in the vicinity of Rs300 billion — and everyone knew it — but our budget drafters with a deliberate intent to deceive projected a figure of Rs122 billion.
When the Pepco loses more than what is budgeted for the Pepco is unable to pay for electricity that it buys from power producers. When power producers don’t get the money for the electricity that they have sold to the Pepco they are unable to pay for furnace oil without which they cannot produce electricity.
Furthermore, when the Pepco doesn’t pay power producers for the electricity that the Pepco buys the power producers go to banks and borrow to meet their cash flow. Lo and behold, Pakistan’s banking sector has already lent out a colossal Rs500 billion to the power sector (next only to the textile sector). And, the virus — we call circular debt — keeps on multiplying.
Imagine; the Government of Pakistan can end loadshedding right away only if it stops telling lies. If the Pepco is expected to lose Rs300 billion then the budget ought to provision for that loss. If the Pepco has the money to pay power producers and power producers have the money to pay the oil companies there will be no loadshedding.
Imagine; just a stroke of a pen can end loadshedding. Remember; any ‘fool can tell the truth, but it requires a man or a woman of some sense to know how to lie well’.

the thing is that we cannot afford the cost of oil which has been proven, but then the present regime tried to have RPP's installed to overcome the problem. The problem in Pakistan is only planning and "bad niyyati" as other sources would mean lesser kickbacks...

اس کے علاوہ يو ايس ايڈ واپڈا کے ساتھ مل کر پن بجلی گھروں ( ست پارہ اور گومل زوم ڈیم) اور تین تھرمل پلانٹس (جامشورو، گڈو، اور مظفر گڑھ) کی تجدید اور بحلی میں مدد کر رہا ہے۔ اور ساتھ ہی ہزاروں غیر فعال زرعی پانی کے پمپوں کی تبدیلی ميں مدد کر رہا ہے۔ ان منصوبوں پر کام 2012 ء کے آخر میں مکمل ہو گا اور اس سے 1000 ميگا واٹس بجلی پیدا ہوگی جس سے پورے ملک کی لوڈشیڈنگ میں 20 فی صد کمی ہوگی۔
اگر آپ پاکستان کی ضروريات پورا کرنے کے حوالے سے ہماری وابستگی پرغور کریں تو آپ کو اندازہ ہوگا کہ پاکستان کے ساتھ ہمارا کتنا گہرا تعلق ہے۔ يہ واقعی پاکستان کو زیادہ محفوظ اور خوشحال بنانے کے ضمن ميں ايک عمدہ مثال ہے۔

Dont lie on this forum!!! For the short term the United States knows that Pakistan can get cheaper electricty and gas from Iran to fulfil its requirements but it does not want Pakistan to do that, due to its own political objectives…

Energy Restructuring plan was compiled by wapda and others few years back........has not been implemented by teh Govt......because they wanted to earn kickbacks with Rental Deals......

جہاں تک بات رہی ايران گيس پائپ لائن کی تو اس پر ہماری پوزیشن بالکل واضح ہے۔ کيوں کہ ايران پر اقوام متحدہ کی طرف سے جانب سے اقتصادی پابندياں ہیں لہذا اس منصوبے کی وجہ سےخدشات ميں ممکنہ اضافے کا امکان ہے، اس کے بجاۓ ہم نے يہ تجويز پیش کی ہے پاکستان TAPI منصوبے کو تر جيخ دے، يہ گيس پائپ لائن ترکمانستان، افغانستان کے ذریعے پاکستان اور بھارت تک جا ۓ گی۔
ہم نے یہ بھی تجویز دی ہے کہ پاکستان کی مارکیٹ میں اصلاحات لائ جائیں جس سے پاکستان اپنی گھریلو توانائی کی پیداوار کو بروۓ کار لا سکے گا۔

And how in the world did “UN” place sanctions on Iran? Dams in 1970s, yeah that is great example. What US needs it help Pakistan get big nuclear reactors to produce more electricity… oh wait, US is already against anything ‘nuclear’ in Pakistan.

they may have built dames, but why not giving nuclear energy to pakistan?
