Pakistani Players in Counties Season 2006

Mods since we have little time till international cricket starts for Pak, so can we have a sticky thread which keeps everyone updated on performance of Pakistani Players in county and club level in UK for 2006

Moh asif is currently playing his first, First class game for his county, he was bowled for 20+ overs and went for 60 odd runs without a wicket on the first day

Re: Pakistani Players in Counties Season 2006

Good idea...so not a good start for Asif...I guess we need Sami back :D

Re: Pakistani Players in Counties Season 2006

The above statement, by default, should be the very first line in every thread starting from now on.

Mohammad Asif is not very impressive in the 2 games he has played so far for Leicestershire. He got figures of 10-3-44-1 in first ODI against Lancs. Danesh Mongia got 4-25. Leicestershire were all out for 125 chasing 194.

In 2nd 4-Day match against Surrey, he has figures of 23-3-62-0 so far, Surrey piled up 320-4.

Asif’s interview with BBC in English. Actually his English is better than Inzi’s. http://www.bbc.co.uk/leicester/realmedia/sport/2006/04/mohammad_asif_interivew.ram

Look what BBC’s site has put as Asif’s image. Looks like Sri Lankan bowler, may be Maharoof:

Article about Asif (u can listen to same interview on the link that I’ve provided above):

Asif fine tuning game for England

Asif was man of the recent Test series against Sri Lanka
Paceman Mohammad Asif says his stint with Leicestershire will be ideal preparation for Pakistan’s Test series in England later this summer.
Asif is expected to be a key player for the tourists in the four Tests, the first starting at Lord’s on 13 July.

“I want to learn English conditions because after three months we have the tour,” he told BBC Radio Leicester.

“England in England will be a very tough side because they know the wickets and weather conditions.”

The 23-year-old came to prominence after taking 10 wickets for Pakistan A against England last winter.

“It was almost the same England team that had won the Ashes and when I started I was under pressure bowling to some big names,” he recalled.

“But the ball started swinging both ways and after that I was okay.”

He played no part in the Test series, which Pakistan won 2-0, but came in for the last game of the one-dayers against England.

Since then Pakistan and Asif have gone from strength to strength - he took 24 wickets in three Tests against Sri Lanka - but insists England will prove difficult to overcome this summer.

“You only have to look at the last Ashes, and they were playing well even before that in England,” he added.

"They are a good side and will give us a tough time.

“Pakistan did well against India and Sri Lanka afterwards but England are not a bad Test side - it will not be easy to beat them here.”

Looks like Yousuf won’t be playing for Derbyshire any more :frowning: :

Derbyshire suffer Yousuf setback

Yousuf has played 66 Tests and 217 one-day internationals.

Pakistan Test star Mohammad Yousuf will not be able to join Derbyshire because of a registration problem.

But Australian Travis Birt will now remain as the second overseas player with Michael di Venuto.

Yousuf was originally signed to act as short-term cover for South African Jacques Rudolph but Rudolph ruled out because of injury.

The rules say temporary substitutes are are only allowed for players who are away on international duty.

“We discussed the situation with the ECB and were originally told there was not a problem,” Derbyshire chief executive Tom Sears told the club’s website.

"But last week we were informed that Yousuf could not be registered as a replacement overseas player.

“It is obviously very disappointing for the club and for Yousuf who was looking forward to his first spell in county cricket.”

Although regarded as one of the most promising batsmen in Australia, Birt has yet to play international cricket.

And there is no chance of him doing so in the next few months as Australia do not have any series scheduled following the current tour to Bangladesh, which ends this weekend.

Yousuf was due to play four games for Derbyshire, starting with next week’s Championship fixture against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

Saqlain Mushtaq got figures of 9-1-38-1 for Irelenad, and they lost the ODI to Hampshire.

Rana made 38 against Hampshire in 4-day game and has figures of 9-5-14-1 so far:

Re: Pakistani Players in Counties Season 2006

rana is becoming the king of county cricket:)

Re: Pakistani Players in Counties Season 2006

yea, he took a wicket on his very first ball of this county season. he would definitely be the MoM if his side wins

Re: Pakistani Players in Counties Season 2006

they will get better asif will get used to the conditions

Re: Pakistani Players in Counties Season 2006

hopefully he doesn’t become another Azher Mehmood or Mushy

Re: Pakistani Players in Counties Season 2006

^ i believe Rana is an intelligent bowler..time after time he has shown then even if lots of runs are being scored of him , he would suddenly come back and surprise the batsmen...this is the reason that he gets wickets almost all the times.

Re: Pakistani Players in Counties Season 2006

I think he emerged after his last county season in England before becoming regular in our senior team.
