Personally, I'm not a huge fan of his policies and the way he handed Naz Shah/Ken Livingstone's views on Jewish-Nazi relations. I think he will sell his soul to be in power (given this is politics it doesn't surprise me). More importantly his pro-Israeli stance is illogical and offensive and random outburst against Muslims living in the UK only goes to show he is in the pocket of lobbyists.
He basically won the vote because he is brown & Muslim and Londoners want to show the world they're multicultural etc...blah blah

Thats interesting. If he fails I doubt there'll be any muslim mayor ever.
Is he conservative or liberal? I wonder who was indian lobby supporting cuz they are in a huge number as well.

Lol!! He did not win because Londoners want to show the world that multiculturalism works. He won because of hope over fear. He won because Zac Goldsmith's smear campaign of hate, Islamophobia etc backfired on him. He won because he was the best suited candidate out of all the list of candidates. He won because his manifesto contains things that if he actually works on, are great things. Clean energy by 2050. Clean air. Fare freeze for four years until 2020 for TFL. He won because of the fact that he had the backing of the Labour supporters in London. Not only brown and Muslims voted for him by the way, only 10% Muslims live in London. A lot of white British people voted for him and campaigned for him as well. A lot of Corbyn supporters backed Sadiq Khan in London, not for Sadiq Khan, for Corbyn and Labour. He won because people are fed up of the Torys. A lot of people that voted Tory in the general elections, voted Labour this time. I personally know many. Chancellor Osbourne's grand budget 2016 made many people angry, from doubling of tax for buy to let mortgages, to cut down on budgets for policing etc. People are sick of the Tories, this is why today nationwide wins for Labour in England. Labour won majority in London assembly too - granted traditionally Labour almost always wins London, but after 8 years of Boris the mad Johnson, it is about time Labour and liberals took back London from the conservatives. Whatever his policies and agendas are, it'll be a breath of fresh air after 8 years. It'll be interesting to see what happens next.
P.S. He won, because from day one he has been campaigning about affordable housing in London and giving priority to people in London for purchasing and ownership, over foreign parties from outside the city and country. Just FYI.

I hate it how all people can see is his skin colour and religion. Get effing past it. He won on merit, he won because no matter what his personal stance on things are, he is smart enough to garner support for him and get voted into city hall. He won because of his achievements. It isn’t easy to become Mayor of London, that also a council boy rising to such a position, which is traditionally held by Eton graduates. He is the third politician to amass such a big victory margin ever, in today’s election people turned out in numbers. The average turnout was roughly 45%, up from 2012’s election. More people came out and voted. People have voted him in. He didn’t steal that position. I have been a strong supporter of him even before he became MP of Tooting. When he was just a human rights lawyer. I supported him on Twitter at the time of the general elections, he became MP of Tooting and today he became Mayor of London. This guy has seen an incremental rise in popularity for various reasons. Oh and he follows me on Twitter. Seen him through throughout his campaign to reach this stage.

A minority leader was able to win against all odds because the majority elected him through free and fair system! No one could dare abuse the system to block a Muslim from becoming the Mayor of one of the world's most important Cities, regardless of the growing Islamophobia.
Can Muslim countries ever provide such opportunities, equality and fairness to their people?
In another news: Ch Sarwar's son has also won his seat in the Scottish Parliament. These same talented and hard working people would've been denied every opportunity to come this far if they were in Pakistan.

Sajid Javed, the minister for business, Warsi and now Sadiq all off springs of Pakistani immigrants and father of all three were bus drivers, thats the beauty of the democracy here. Could a Pakistani bus drivers son achieve the same status back home like these three have done.
Despite all the negative campaign against him painting him as friends of extremists by the right wing Tories he won with a landslide. Yes he is liberal in his views and good for him.

Amazing comments, the right wing press here has been labelling him a friend of extremists, he was a human rights lawyer and now that he has won we are being told that he is pro Israel and he won because he was brown and Muslim. Nothing can be further than the truth than this allegation.

Lol if he only won because he is Muslim and Brown, he probably wouldn't have won. Fact is he did. With single largest mandate in the history of British politics. CEO1 seems to follow right wing British media only. Don't go with Daily Mail and Metro etc. Read Independent etc. He is not even a strict Muslim, he is secular Muslim. He voted for same sex marriages. He got death threats too because of that. He has worked with and campaigned with Jews, Sikhs etc. Fact is people are sick of the Tories! Plus the damage that Zac Goldsmith's campaign did, gave nasty party label to Conservatives again.
