I think it’s high time we dedicated an entire thread to this movie. It premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival amongst raving reviews and recently premiered in several cities in the united states/canada where most shows were sold out. I haven’t seen the movie but am thoroughly impressed at the commitment of the whole cast at promoting this venture and sticking by it against all adversities. Their perseverance finally paid off and ARY has picked it up for distribution beginning Eid ul Fitar. So many movies that started filming with (and before) this movie are still in post production due to the absence of a distributor. Here are some details of the movie:
Synopsis: Musically intense and colorfully raw, JOSH takes a sneak peek inside Pakistan today- the way you didn’t know it.
Fatima, a committed schoolteacher living the cosmopolitan high life in Karachi, has her life shattered when her nanny, Nusrat, inexplicably disappears. Josh is the story of Fatima’s search, despite the warning of her friends and family, for a dangerous truth in Nusrat’s feudal village.
Starring: Aamina Sheikh, Mohib Mirza, Khalid Malik, Navin Waqar, Khalid Ahmed, Parveen Akber, Nyla Jafri, Kaiser Khan Nizamani, Saleem Mairaj, Adnan Shah Tipu, Ali Rizvi, Faizan Haqquee, Gul e Rana & Many more. Directed: By Iram Parveen Bilal. Music by Shahi Hasan, Manesh Judge & Noor Lodhi of Indus World Music. Written By: Iram Parveen Bilal

Here’s Anwar Maqsood endorsing it:
“The great multi Oscar winning director Frank Capra lives again, only this time as a young, Pakistani woman named Iram Bilal, who in JOSH, her stunning debut, manages the rare combination of trenchant social criticism and heart warming characters whose deep humanity shows in every frame.”

These folks did a food drive for "Khana Ghar" and provided ramazan food supplies to over 120 families. The movie is loosely based on the life of khana ghar owner Parveen Saeed who founded the charity to provided heavily subsidized meals (something like 3 Rs for a whole meal) to the needy. I hope they can get a distributor in boston!!

has anyone seen this ? please see this with an open mind and heart. It was made on a tiny budget and the team faced many hurdles owing to the nonexistent infrastructure in pakistan for movies. so don't compare it to a bolly flick!! coz it doesn't have the "shushkaaz" of B-town, but has a beautiful story instead.
I am personally very impressed by the director. Yaar kia bundi hai!director, writer, marketing manager, facebook page maintainer, event organizer. she's seriously done it all. she is so confident in her product that she's gone through every avenue to promote it. international screenings, submissions to international film festivals, food drives, pakistani university screenings, radio appearances, private viewings for renowned pakistani celebrities and getting their endorsements . Her passion for her work is so inspiring and addicting. I really want her to succeed with this.
Her formula of marketing really worked because so many independent movies in pakistan never see the light of day because no one picks them up for distribution. She made the right decision to submit it to international festivals which got her approval from critics and put it on ppl's radar. It was eventually her big win in the mumbai film festival that gave her the break she needed in terms of getting a distributor (ARY).

Yeah she is one hell of a woman. I wanted to open a thread on her. Someone has to do a nice write up for her on GS. People know about these Bakhwaas drama writers but no one here is talking about irum perveen.
Its sad that the film has gotten such a beautiful review in an Indian publication and meanwhile Dawn published a really snobby and crappy review of the film. Seems like good symbolism in the movie went over the head of the dawn reviewer.
