There is an excellent–and very encouraging–review of this movie in the Friday Times.

Some interesting snippets from the review:

"Against the Grain](http://www.thefridaytimes.com/beta3/tft/article.php?issue=20130809&page=25)

**A decade ago Pakistani cinema was considered all but dead and buried. Not anymore. In the last many years a spate of award winning independent films have graced screens at home and internationally-**Sabiha Sumar’s Khamosh Pani, Shoaib Mansoor’s Khuda Kay Liye and Bol, Mehreen Jabbar’s Ramchand Pakistani, Hammad Khan’s Slackistan- and the latest to join their ranks is Josh/Against the Grain written, directed and produced by Iram Parveen Bilal…

Bilal is masterful in her depiction of three very different Pakistans- elite, feudal, lower middle class- and how they exist within the one greater Pakistan. Cinematographer, Nausheen Dadabhoy, perfectly captures this often conflicting co-existence through lavish interiors of Fatima’s urban upper class mansion with its verdant driveway and winding staircases contrasting with the exteriors in Nusrat Bi’s village such as the open air makeshift school with its small blackboard set against a bare sky. **Josh’s Karachi is suffused with a gritty gorgeousness and the viewer can smell and taste and touch the calendar-worthy cultural montage **as the camera sweeps and focuses on crowded public roads, carcasses in the meat district, a tie & dye screen door, incense burning on a grave, yellow daal ladled onto tin plates, the slickness of money being palmed.

Bilal’s script is tight and eschews preachiness and the film editor, Jochen Kunstler, has done an excellent job in keeping the suspense high and the pace brisk…Amina Shaikh plays Fatima with not too much melodrama and enough chutzpah to render her naive, earnest, activist character completely believable and compelling, and she shines in small moments such as sitting through a wedding where everyone is dancing even as her own heart is breaking.

Bilal has directed all her actors well and they all do justice to their roles

Josh is an excellent addition to Pakistan’s independent films and a must watch."

It really sounds like a great movie!
