I am a middle class girl here in the UK and my familly in pakistan are allhamdoulillah middle class and no financial issues and very well educated I go to Karachi almost every year for atleast a month and I have also lived there. I love karachi i love pakistan and I love my life in the uk. Here are some differences that i find.
In the UK I walk around completely alone without fear, where as in pakistan this is just not possible, you cannot spend saturday afternoon shopping ALONE.
I can go for a run, in pakistan i would not feel comfortable going for a run unless i lived in some gated community in defence.
**Pretty much 3 times a week i meet up with my friends and we go out to the cinema, for dinner, to the park for a picnic, take a road trip to another city. In pakistan I cannot go to the cinema, dinner yes obviously but a group of girls alone 3-4 times a week? and a road trip to another city just like that - i dont think so. **
The thing is apricot the is a lack of independence for women in Pakistan.
Things which are fantastic about pakistani life - i think if you are a woman and earning a decent amount and can afford maids and driver, there is a very very very good social life and lots of fun, your family is there which is the best thing, you can practice your religion much more easily, the food is amazingg obviously you can just be pakistani
There is a difference and both have their pros and cons.
But i wonder - most people who get an opportunity to leave do, why? and those people who try and settle back for the most part try and fail. My family is an example.
Again it has so much do with your family rules and dynamics. From my school/college and now Uni and work days I can pretty much say 97% of the Muslim girls I know don’t have such freedom. Even if they do indulge in such activities, they do it either behind their parents back, have their full permission (which doesn’t come easy) or do it in groups like they do it Pakistan. And surprise surprise I’m talking about UK.
