I’ve recently seen an argument break out over the quality of Pakistani gold as against UK standard. The recently arrived immigrant proudly defending the shiny yellow stuff that is sold over there as against the carat-standard that is sold over here.
Knowing standards on the sub-continent on other matters, I’ve always been a bit suspicious of Pakistani gold, but does anybody know for a fact what is actually being sold?
We have sonyaaras here as well, just wondering what they are getting rich on?
This might be the veritable nadir for you sir. Please find a safe place for your marbles, preferabely far away from these United States.
AS far as gold is conerened is because there is a rightful attitude of south asians when it comes to gold. India for example is the largest consumer of gold in the world. The higher the carat the better. I think due to the softness of higher carat gold, it is perfect for the intricate designs that Indian jewelery has. In the west most gold is less pure because the maleablity is not required due to the simpe designs of the jewlery.
Gold worn in the sub-continent is mostly 22 or 24 carat. It is more pure hence weak in stability and easily broken. If you take a piece of jewelery that is made out of indo/paki gold, you can very easily twist the shape of it with your hands. Yeah the colour very yellowish, orange- yellow, somehow very desi-like. Worn on traditional occasions like weddings looks awefully nice...not really for normal casual wear or for formal western gatherings.
On the other hand, Gold worn in the west is 10 - 18 Karat and not more. The jewelery is more stable and strong and can last life time and you can even give em to ur kids and grandkids. The colour is light yellow. There are equally brands made from red and white golds. Here I love the simplicity and uniqness of western designs.
As for what pakistanis sells under the name of gold? Allah hi janney.
Xtreme, All I know about this area is that pure Gold is more expensive than non-pure gold. Which means that it costs more money (as in cash) to buy pure Gold compared to non-pure one. Which is why it is more expensive. If it wasn’t more expensive, it wouldn’t cost as much.
I personally think Gold stinks. It is the ugliest metal to wear. Silver is a lot sexier. My wedding band is Gold, but I am planning to paint it silver.
Pakistani gold is so ugly looking. I don't care how much "pure" or higher carets it's got. It's totally disgusting. American gold looks nice. It's color is a nice shiny brilliant yellow compared to "gaaRha" orangish yellow Pakistani one, like over-cooked "guRh".
Thank you Sadi… I totally agree with you, tell it to Fraudz. He wears a big Silver chain (real thick) with Mercedes logo on it. I used to wear a big Peace sign (the upside down Y), but now I don’t wear it anymore.
Roman has a belly ring, and I suspect Xtreme has a stud on the left (or is it right) eyebrow. Looks sharp.
Well the dispute came about because this FOB took a strop when a ginger-haired gori started taking the mick out of his admittedly cheap looking gold chain. He launched into Ginger's own jewellry with much prodding and gesticulating, using lots of great terms like 'malawwat'. She asked me what he was saying and I said that he was madly in love with her and was prepared to give her parents 100 camels if she would marry him. I swear this is all true.
Anyway, that's all interesting stuff and thanks for that info. No wonder they keep all that stuff locked up in paittiyaN. I always thought they were off their trolleys. Wow...that gold is worth something then. You wouldn't think it would you?
