Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

These are same tired and failed and invalid excuses.

Our army (any army from the world for that matter) cannot solely fight a tribal resistance which will be strategically supported by all other big powers. For their own survival, regional stability and balance of power, they need to have the Afghan Taliban off their backs. We cannot indefinitely remain in a state of war with two of our neighbours.

When mighty Empires from past and present had failed to defeated this damned tribal resistance what makes some people think Pakistan's exhausted army can possibly fight them? I mean what do you want, lets go all gun blazing on bunch of ragtags while USA is their Godfather, Saudia funds them and India provides them inside keys?

Afghan Taliban are not our business...they can go to hell or just settle down in Afghanistan. What they do in Afghanistan, how they run the country is simply not our problem. Our problem is Pakistani Taliban.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

If tribal areas so near and dear to Imran (*and PTI) then why don't I hear anything from them about ending FCR? For all the drone bla bla, I should have heard something about FCR considering Imran khan used to all over talk shows because he had nothing else to do in the past.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

FATA is with the federal government, and I believe they are working on removing or reforming it. Lets see, it necessary to bring FATA to the mainstream.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

The difference is that our army is not a foreign occupying force in tribal areas, and they don't have luxury of packing up leaving (which is what some politicians want them to do). Btw, SWAT is not tribal area & neither is Dir, and Taliban are not entirely local. Many of the terrorists are foreigners.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

No the question about not unpacking and leaving, it's about defeating a tribal resistance, which no conventional army - be it local and foreign - could achieve. It's kind of getting boring to see people perceive such a massively complicated issue in blocks black and white.

It's quite silly to even imagine that Pakistan's notoriously powerful and uncontrollable army is being dictated by a newbie and an always under threat PM. It shouldn't be too hard to assume that after 12 years of fighting, maybe Pak army too wants revise its strategy to finish off this 'war'.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

PPP is not in the federal government. Officially it has to be condemned by people in power at the center. Read what head of PPP has said about that incident. Are you satisfied now?

Former President Zardari warns against appeasing militants**ISLAMABAD: Condemning the killing of army officers in a terrorist attack in Upper Dir on Sunday, former president Asif Ali Zardari urged people to guard against extremist mindset and appeasing militants.
**
In a message on the International Democracy Day, he paid tribute to all those who had sacrificed their lives and endured imprisonment and exile to protect and promote democracy and warned the people against “new forms of threats to democracy”.

“The greatest… threat to democracy emanates from the militant mindset [that] seeks to impose their agenda through force,” he said.

“If there has been any doubt about the futility of appeasing the militants these must be removed by the incident in Upper Dir today.”

He was referring to the death of Maj Gen Sanaullah, Lt Col Tauseef Ahmed and Lance Naik Irfanullah who were killed when their vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device.

These are the people IK/PTI/NS wants to negotiate with? Only thing these people deserve is a bullet in head.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

I agree with your sentiments, but isn't it ironic that Pakistan army men are no longer safe anywhere in Pakistan. General Alvi was killed in Rawalpindi. Army men cannot roam around freely in the country wearing their uniforms. I am talking of cities like Lahore, pindi and Islamabad (not FATA or KPK).

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

Its no secret how this socalled peace talks will end. TTP are clear on their agenda, its only our confused politicans who still dont know what to do. How many more losses can we bear before they will understand these bull****t talks will have no positive outcome.

What will be armys respons if TTP attack again?

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

actually, even the military doesn't know how/where to begin if they decide to take firm action against extremism.

One of the plotters of attack on Musharraf was an SSG guy assigned with security detail of vice chief of army at that time. Several belonged to Air Force in other attacks.

Military has to begin cleansing from withing first.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

Sad but true

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

Says a guy who did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to counter the threat when he and his party was in power. Every time there was an attack the only action he took was to increase his own security. He didnt even had the guts, courage or decency to attend the funerals of his murdered governor and one of his senior ministers. It was because of this cowardice, inability and incompetence of the previous government that today we have third class chawals and murderers like Qadris becoming heroes. a govt with guts would have brought a scum like Qadri to justice and hanged him a long time ago. A coward like Zardari has no right to lecture others.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

**SWAT: Major General Sanaullah Khan Niazi brought culture back to Swat, along with freedom and hope.

**After the valley and its surrounding areas won the battle against the Taliban following a Pakistan Army operation in 2009, General Sanaullah worked tirelessly to help the area and its people recover from their traumatic experience.
Since the beginning of war against militancy in Pakistan, the IED blast on Sunday marked the first martyrdom of a Major General. He had taken over as GOC Swat and Malakand Division in February 2013.

Born in 1960 in Mianwali, Punjab, he joined the Pakistan Army in 1983 as a commissioned officer. He secured war and tactical operations courses, and taught at the Army Command and Staff College, Quetta, before he was appointed to Swat.
**“He was a great leader. He was fully aware of all aspects and contexts of the region,” says a Lieutenant Colonel, who worked under the GOC’s supervision. “He not only established peace in the area but promoted its culture and launched multiple development projects.”
**
The GOC realised the importance of development and social activities for a successful counterinsurgency programme and post-conflict rehabilitation.

Therefore, he worked for the revival of tourism in the picturesque Swat valley.

He ensured that the pavement of the Kalam Road was complete before the tourist season began.
Moreover, he created and launched the Malam Jabba Snow Festival in which he invited tourists and athletes from all across the country to take part in the games. The festival also created employment for the area.
But he didn’t stop there. Tourists thronged the Swat Summer Festival, the first cultural event that took place after Swat’s battle against militancy. Maj Gen Sanullah oversaw its arrangement. Within no time, he ensured the security of more than 50,000 tourists, which also helped in the revival of the local hotel industry.

He also launched a Sports Gala for the youth in Swat. Committed to sports, he reopened the Kabal Golf Course and Swat held a national golf tournament last month featuring 200 players for the first time in 20 years.
An art exhibition also took place – for the first time in Swat’s history – in which artists from across the country participated.

He was there for the people of Swat, not just in times of peace, but also in times of looming crises. During the floods, the GCO directed all his men to ensure minimal damage.
His subordinates extol him.

“He was a kind-hearted genius,” says another colonel from Swat. He inspired all his men in the division and kept their morale high, he adds. “He and his soldiers gave their lives in the line of duty while visiting the posts along the most volatile border.”
For Afzal Khan Lala, a prominent politician from Swat, Maj Gen Sanaullah was a best friend. “He had the qualities of a great leader,” he says.

**He was always concerned with the generation of employment for the people of Swat and the development of its private sector, recalls Khan. “He believed that creating jobs could reduce and gradually eliminate extreme elements from society.”
**
He gave his all to inspire the people recovering from war, and taught them how to live again with freedom and hope. Swat was at peace under Maj Gen Sanaullah. Now the people hope that he may rest in peace.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

That is not correct. PPP was main target of TTP and many TTP leaders were arrested by past government. Zardari or for that matter any other leader can not do anything because Punjab and part of KP are the breading ground for these as you say animals. Quite a number of people belonging to these provinces also support TTP. Zardari did not rule Punjab, it was Hilter of Punjab and Ganaja Sharif who were running the affairs of Punjab. These two guys and IK are the main people whose attitude to appease these animals. In view of this problem, none can do any thing except army if they really want to eradicate this menace. During the tenure PPP government a number of animals were arrested, now these three leaders are bent on releasing them without reaching an agreement.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

This is the reply to those who say that when ever talks begin conspiracies start happening against them. A video regarding the killing of the general on TTP’s official facebook page.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

btw both Major General Sanaullah Niazi (shaheed) and the major General (forgetting his name) who was killed in the mosque attack near GHQ Rawal Pindi in 2011 were Imran's maternal cousins. So IK has no reason to have sympathy for these TTP criminals.
