UPPER DIR, Sept 9: Army has secured the western borders of the country by thwarting the nefarious designs of terrorists, says Maj-Gen Sanaullah Niazi.
He said that terrorists wouldn’t be allowed to disturb peace of the area. Militants wanted to disturb peace of the region as proxies of some forces, he added.
Maj-Gen Sanaullah, who commands security forces in Malakand division, visited Dir to inaugurate Jashn-i-Kumrat, a sports festival, the other day.

Early fruits of talking to jihadi Teletubbies. In related news…Army withdrawal from Malakand approved by KP govt - DAWN.COM

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced on Saturday that withdrawal of troops from Malakand division would begin next month and the civil administration would take over control of the area.

Shiraz Paracha, spokesman for Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, said the withdrawal could begin in mid-October.

In the first phase, troops would be pulled out from Buner and Shangla districts. The spokesman said the chief minister had approved the plan and ‘everybody’ had been consulted.

The announcement comes at a time when the federal government is preparing to launch peace talks with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the light of decisions of an all-party conference.

The army was called out by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government in 2007 to assist the administration in parts of Malakand division to quell militancy in the mountainous region. The division comprises Swat, Buner, Shangla, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Chitral and Malakand districts.

When several militant groups, led by Mullah Fazlullah, established a parallel administration in Swat, Buner and other adjoining districts and started brutalities, the army launched an operation in May 2009. The air force assisted the army.

Over two million civilians were displaced from the area due to the conflict.

An official communiqué issued from the CM House stated that KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak announced the withdrawal of army from Malakand division in Nowshera.

Khattak said that withdrawal of army from these two districts would be followed by a phase-wise withdrawal from Upper Dir, Lower Dir and Swat where ‘the writ of the government has been consolidated’.

Khattak said that the army was deployed in the Malakand division due to increasing activities of the Taliban in 2007.

The security forces had offered innumerable sacrifices to clear the area and restore peace and now ‘hundreds of displaced people are back’.

The chief minister said that the KP government wanted to resolve all issues through talks and it has been successful in maintaining the writ of the government.

The residents of Malakand have expressed their reservations time and again about the militants’ threat from across the border where the Fazlullah-led Taliban have safe heavens in Nuristan and Kunar provinces and launch attacks in Upper Dir, Lower Dir and in Bajaur Agency as well.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

The army is facing the music which they have brought to themselves. Anyways, would be interesting to see Imran Khan's view as Dir is in KPK (part of Malakand Division from where the provincial government wants the army to leave). And the general himself is a Niazi (IK's tribe).

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

Saying it from years "you can't talk with butchers & gay-monkeys".
Oh by the way NS & Ik should "die in chulo barh pani" and wear "chooriyan" to show solidarity with victims.

Anyone care to give one example where insurgency as such taliban/al-qaida is taken care off with peace talks. Learn something from Sri-Lanka, India, Turkey, Iran, Iraq err.. well whole of middle east.

You kick them from right n left and then talk.

I wonder what happened when military will totally handover the areas to civilians such as "teeli pehlwan".

PM condoles, TTP claims responsibility for killing of a Major General in KP - DAWN.COM

In the neighbouring district of Bannu, Taliban militants ambushed a convoy of tribal police early Sunday, killing two of them and wounding four others, the officials said.

Pakistan says more than 40,000 people have been killed as a result of bomb and suicide attacks carried out by Taliban and Al-Qaeda-led militants who oppose Islamabad’s US alliance.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

Sad day for Pakistan A great lost, pmln PTI JI are all same responsible as Taliban they are guilty for this and brutal massacre of our Army other agencies and civilians. This is our war not else, They killing us every corner of Pakistan and some confused(hypocrite) leaders defend them again. it was only N.Naji who said straight truth about this incident including Shami others were so defensive Such a shame.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

No preconditions were set for TTP, not even asking them to stop their attacks as precursor for negotiations. They (on the other hand) have set conditions for talks which include withdrawal of troops from FATA, and release of their compatriots.

A weak response from Federal as well as Provincial governments on killing of the General.

The problem is that we are not clear on our strategy, the TTP on the other hand is very clear.

A chitrol to NS and Imran Khan should be carried out openly at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

I understand we have a huge following for Imran Khan on this forum..so i want to control my emotions and feelings and dont want to say anything too negative about him to avoid people's feelings but i can tell you that I am boiling against IK on his stand on terrorism......

iss adami ko sharam nahieen aatiee..i just heard his interview to mehar of dawn news and he stated same bul**** vision on terrorism

that this is not our war and that pakistan should get out of it..how to get out of it? how come this is not our war Imran?

that pakistan should stop drone attacks ... how? why are you using drone attacks for creating sympathies for talibans?...our army wants these drone attacks for god sake ...

that when pakistan will do these 2 steps, it will immediately reduce talibans area of influence and that they will lose their support...la howla walla quwata billah...khuda kee mar ho

that majority of taliban groups will fall in line once they lose public support and we can negotiate with them....i can only laugh at it

and that after doing all this, those talibans groups who dont want to negotiate with us may face an army action but even then we** shd avoid army action if we can
**
ladies & gents this is what IK said in last 48 hours....

IK tumhay sharam nahieen aatiee...

for dividing our nation on such critical juncture

for lending support to talibans , albeit unintentionally

for not respecting 50,000 pakistanis who got killed by taliban

and for insulting our soldiers and officers who lost their lives to these animals

time has come that PTI supporters shd consider their unconditional support to IK because of his stupid stand on talibans

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

let me be very clear.....not that I think that Nawaz sharif is all masoom on terrorism front....he is even more pathetic than Imran khan because he is the prime minister....he called in APC and made offers for negotiations without setting any per-conditions....but i have no hopes from this man nawaz anyway...I always had more hopes from IK because he is the voice for change..but he is pathetic on terrorism

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

If you appease animals this is what you get.

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

time has come to tell Imran Khan that you are pathetic and wrong on terrorism front....all of us who supported IK shd also force him see the writing on the wall

Imran says wars never create peace..WRONG

only recently, sri lankan state finally won war against tamil terrorists

the indian state won against sikhs via war

as pathetic as it was, but USA use of atomic bomb finally created peace

States do negotiations with rebels from position of authority not from position of weakness

these animals killed our general today...and we want to negotiate with them?

they are setting conditions for negotiations and we are willing to do negotiations without any conditions?

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

wrong janab...plz dont blame animals

when you appease animals they become loyal to you

these religious fanatics are not animals..

Re: Pakistani General killed in Upper Dir

I think it will have the impact as desired by all parties; PMLN, PTI, and Taliban.

[sarcasm] The government will rush in to sign the peace deal, accept all their demands, and save Pakistan army and people. After all, after a decade of fighting we know that the state of Pakistan is incapable of defeating with Taliban. Actually, there is no question of defeat or win, since we should not have fought this war with Taliban brethren anyway. [/sarcasm]

Unfortunately, Hamid Gul was right when he said that majority of Pakistani are pro-Taliban.
