Re: Pakistani Culture of Pakistan - Today's perspective.
drugs, alcohol, designer see through and short tight clothes
buying an islamic modest life is cheap buying a western "haraaam" life is expensive
that's why the richer you are the tougher it is to stay "pak"
as pakistan is gettting more and more rich, sex, drugs alcohol will spread farther into the society, just look at what happened to arabs after they got showered with pertodollars ;)
they are two sides of any coin: developpment and money brings more knowledge, and less injustice or corruptiun but money and developpment brings, individualism, selfishness, family ties breaking up, drugs, alcohol and sex replacing "islamic" values
While that might be a societal phenomenon, individually it is highly destructive. Without name dropping, I can assure you that some of the most successful individuals that I know, happen to be devoutly religious. Forget just Islamic values, religious Christians have done well for themselves in the US.
While I realize that affluence brings a lot vices on a societal level, the choice is highly individualistic. Being grounded in religion, any religion, instills a sense of purpose and the motivation to do well beyond the self. I could care less about those indulging in vices, because they are making it easier for the moral ones to reclaim the mantle of leadership and control of the nation.
So if Pakistan's elites are indulging in this type of behavior, then I say kudos. Much like the US, where religious conservatives are calling the shots, we too will have our day :)
