LAHORE: Difa-e-Islam Mahaz (Front for the Defence of Islam), an alliance of 22 Sunni religious organisations, is trying to get a fatwa (decree) from scholars of all sects including Shia and Ahle Hadith in Pakistan to declare Aga Khanis kafir (infidels), Dr Mufti Sarfaraz Naeemi, principal of Jamia Naemia, told Daily Times on Sunday.

He said, “We have first called for a decree from local Sunni scholars and then the consensus will be made on a national basis to declare Aga Khanis, like the Ahmadis, non-Muslim. After that, no school considering them non-Muslim will join the Aga Khan Board (AKB).”

He said this when asked to comment on the AKB issue, which was part of the main agenda of the Difa-e-Islam Mahaz meeting held at Jamia Naemia on Sunday afternoon. The other agenda included the recent amendment in Section 295-C (Blasphemy Law) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the abolition of the religion column in the new passport.

He said Sunnis already considered Aga Kahnis non-Muslim. Asked what the problem was with having an Aga Khani educational board in Pakistan as thousands of students were already taking exams under the British (Christian) system, he said it was already clear that the British system was Christian.

About discussions on Section 295-C (Blasphemy Law) of the PPC, Dr Naeemi said the meeting opposed the recent amendment in the aforesaid section, empowering only a superintendent of police level official to inquire into a blasphemy incident before lodging a First Information Report (FIR).

He warned that the situation could also instigate common Muslims to react or attack such an accused if he were not arrested immediately. He feared that though this would be against the law, the government would be responsible for such a situation.

He also said the meeting decided that the abolition of the religion column in the new passport was another US agenda. He said the Difa-e-Islam Mahaz’s Lahore faction would join the Tahafuz-e-Namoose-Risalat’s train march against Section 295-C of the PPC’s amendment when it would reach Lahore.

Shahid Gardezi, Difa-e-Islam Mahaz information secretary, told Daily Times that the meeting passed resolutions demanding the restoration of the religion column in the new passport to not let Ahmedis enter Mecca.

that is so stupid. aga khanis and ahmadis have contributed a lot to the pakistani economy. if they plan to declare fatwa against them, they might as well kiss their dhancha bachi kuchi economy good bye.

Suroor - Aga khanis are not the only ones contributing to the economy. There are sikhs & hindus too. Do u think they are any less? What bout the majority of overseas Pakistanis contributing towards the economy of Pakistan, they are the ones who bring the foreign revenue. You cannot equate the balance of economy to the banning of a minority.

sikhs and hindus are not as prominent in pakistan as aga khanis are. i am sure they are contributing to the economy as well, not as in visible way. aga khan hosptital/univeristy provides one of the best education and services in karachi. not only that i they contribute to various charities as well. i dont care who or how u are worshipping, but why ban something or someone which are without any doubt good for pakistan?

I got an idea - how about declaring these foking cleris infidels? In fact I'll do it right now:

I hereby declare any foking mullah who wants to declare anyone else anything to be an infidel and banish them to eat only shepherd pie outside a punjabi dhaba fpr their next 5 incarnations. so there.

there have been attempts to do this before, and none of the major sunni groups and none of the major shia groups ever signed up to this.

I'd be very surprised if it succeeds.

I think Allah:swt: is enough for that. If getting good economy and all is the only crieteria for being muslim, then whatever happened to the sahadah and the basic tenents taught to us for being a muslim?

the truth is that it might not effect u entirely, but it does effect to the ppl who are already dying of starvation and are effected by bachi kuchi economy. and when u r starving for few days, u dont look for GOD to fill ur tummy, but u pick up the grain of rice off the floor n eat it.

Stupid move..but it'll never succeed...nice play on the quote in your first post mats ..
this has all been trigegred of by two recent events..the Agha Khan text board controversy and to a lesser extent the purchase of Habib Bank by the Agha Khan

agreed :k: not cuz i am agha khani or anything…but when i use to live in pakistan, these agha khani facilities that suroor wrote about were one of the best in the country! their community contributed alot towards our economy!

none of that proves that ismailis are muslims…

and bout the topic.. it wont happen.. ismailis own pakistan and have put in too much money.. and most ppl wont give a damn if they are a total different religion as long as there is money coming in
