I am surprised by the Pakistanis who are sitting in Pakistan, and what they think of the Pakistanis who are living in USA.
A recent thread (about Mr. Edhi) is the example of what they think of Pakistani-Americans
Another example is by an old Pakistani heroine Bahar who said in her interview that “although my son lives in USA, but he observes the month of Ramadan and do fasting” as somehow implying that Pakistani Muslims in USA don’t give a damn to their religious values and just her son is the exception.
I want these people to do a little homework.
In year 2002 alone, Pakistani-American community contributed nearly 1 billion dollars in philanthropy, majority of that to support Pakistani causes in Pakistan.
The biggest effort of tabligh-e-deen anywhere in the whole Non-Muslim world is happening in USA that is mainly supported by Pakistani brothers and sisters, living in USA.
Famous Pakistani singers make more than half of their money, touring USA, doing shows that are attended by hundreds and thousands of Pakistanis.
Whenever, for a political cause or whatever, that goes in the interest of Pakistan, if this community sees the need of pressurizing USA govt., they write letters to their congressmen and senators or do a protest in D.C, that is far more effective than burning USA flag in Peshawar or doing Naraa-Baazi in front of US consulate in Islamabad
I am sure that I can add on to the list, but if someone thinks that they can only show patriotism to Pakistan by sitting inside Pakistan, I want to tell them, you have no idea what value Pakistani-Americans are adding to their country that for most of the part cannot be added if you are sitting inside Pakistan.
Good thread TLK. I guess we forget that in Islam, there is no burden on a soul to migrate to another place if the opportunities and peace is better there.
no, not at all, lets have a civil discussion about it.
does an avgh Pakistani in Pakistan do asmuch for his coutry as an avg Pakistani in USA
does an avg Pakistaniin USA hurt his nation as much as an avg Pakistani in Pakistan
those would be some other thoughts.
pakistani expats get a bad rap for being bhagoray, runners, dollar kay ghulam etc.
ppl in pak get blamed for being corrupt, pettyetc,
lets have it all out ..it can be done in a civil manner.
Okay the goal of this thread was not to put down Paki-Pakistanis, just to tell that those living in USA or UK or Dubai are doing much more for Pakistan than one could do in Pakistan under unfortunate domestic situation of the country.
