Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

Why couldn’t they just disowned her instead of killing her? And where is “honor” in killing your own kids?

BBC News - Pakistan woman stoned by family outside Lahore court

A Pakistani woman has been killed by her relatives outside Lahore High Court for marrying against their wishes.

Police said 30-year old Farzana Bibi died on the spot after being attacked with bricks and sticks.

Her father handed himself in, but police say her brothers and former fiancee, who also took part in the attack, were still free.

Correspondents say hundreds of girls and women in Pakistan are killed every year by family members.

However, many more killings are believed to go unreported.

Farzana Bibi’s parents accused her husband, Muhammad Iqbal, of kidnapping her, and had filed a case against him at the High Court.

However, she testified to police that she had married him of her own accord. Police said the couple had been engaged for a number of years.

As she arrived at the court building for a hearing, police said about a dozen family members pulled her aside and began to attack her and her husband, who managed to escape.

Police official Umer Cheema told Reuters that all the family members escaped after the killing, apart from her father, who has admitted his role in her death.

The BBC’s Shumaila Jaffery says marriage against the wishes of relatives is culturally unacceptable in some parts of Pakistan.

Under Pakistani law, the victim’s family is allowed to forgive the killer. However, in many cases family members are themselves responsible for the killing.

You tell me.

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

This crazy because Lahore is the second largest city in Pakistan; People in Pakistan need to let go of their patriarchal tribal customs because none of this has anything to do with islam(which unfortunately Islamophobes are going to use as evidence that islam is a ‘violent religion’).

All they could have done was disown her but they had to murder her, typical behavior of tribalistic people in South Asia, and i don’t understand why cops didn’t do **** if they witnessed her getting attacked, what the **** were the police doing and didn’t any passerbys care to intervene, people in Pakistan especially rural people have a very sick mentality

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

It’s a sad news.

It’s surprising though that all this could happen infront of the court, where was the police?

My question also

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

WHAT THE HELL

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

Sad. What is the history behind honor killings? How did it begin?

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

sad indeed…i just can’t fathom how a father or a brother can kill their own daughter/sister…jaanwar se bhii bad tar insaan…

…police was having ‘guTkaa’ under the shade of a tree and were probably “TUN”!

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

Knowing our police, probably supplying stones.

As for the thread, this honor killing disease, is not solely a Pakistani thing. India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh etc even Arab countries are rife with this rubbish. Even in West we have had desis do it numerous times, I would say a lack of education but I have read of educated people doing this kind of bakwaas plenty of times as well.

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

They consider the girls to be a family’s ‘honor’ and yet treat them like this. Only people who don’t believe in the day of judgment do things like these. :frowning:

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

There have been a few cases in the UK involving Kurds as well..

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

Damn, Shamraz beat me to it again. I saw the news today and thought, I will post it before Shamraz but man you are fast.

And stoning makes such a good headline.

Now interestingly, the BBC urdu website, does not mention the equivalent word in urdu “sangsaar”.

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

there was an Iraqi man featured on America’s Most Wanted who drove his two [20, 22 year olds] daughters to a deserted road in Texas and shot them to death. those two girls had a friendship [not a relationship] with male students at the university. after killing his two daughters, he fled to Iraq. shame on such men [especially fathers] who kill women in the name of family honor.

i found the video about these murders but i’m not posting links because they are quite disturbing.

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

Mostly, the police are heavily bribed before hand.

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

There have also been a couple of cases in the Midlands involving Romas.

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

sounds like a case of “log kya kahain gay”. heartbreaking

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

very sad

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

but now all da family members who stoned dem and all da people who were standing dere silently should be punished

Re: Pakistan woman stoned to death by family outside Lahore court

how about the police who must have been around there as it happened in the court’s premises?

in a mob mentality, every passerby feels it’s his duty [farz] to cast at least one stone on the condemned…kaun pahel kartaa hai aise kaamoN meN? :frowning:
