Pakistan Win Azlan Shah Hockey Cup

Sohal Abbas scores early on a short corner :k: against Korea.

saby,

Good Mornin' ahem Evenin', :p

Are you currently watchin' Hockey Game?

Good evening, ahem Gopod morning to you too  yes PT i was watching the game. Pakistan just defeated South Korea 1-0 :k:

Pakistan will play Germany in the final on sunday

Thanks for the greetings, saby.

We took the revenge of 1999-2000 defeat with the same exact margin of 1-0, yeh! Good on Pakistan team. I knew either Sohail Abbas or Rehan Butt would goal from Pakistan team. My predictions were so right.

I’ll catch the highlights of the game on Khabarian. Till then enjoy victory and let’s hope Pakistan take on Germans even better! :k:

these days germans are like tiger woods of hockey :D.. Insha’allah we will win :k:

umm Pakistan earned only one penalty corner i remember, or at the most 2-3. Sohail Abbas is the most dangerous player in modern hockey these days.

did germany beat the kiwis if not then the final can't be between pakistan and germany as pakistan have to win (which they have) and kiwis have to lose to germany as they have the same amount of points as us.

Pakistan’s goal difference is higher then both kiwis and Newzealand and Pakistan had to only draw the match to reach finals which they did by winning :k:

Saby bhai

oops  tabiat kuch zyaada hee kharaab hai aaj :smack:

I meant Pakistan’s goal difference is higher then both Korea and Kiwis

wat was the outcome of kiwis v germany match

After a very tough and stubborn resistance from the Asian Games champions South Korea, Pakistan emerged victorious by a narrow margin of 1-0 in their last league match of the 12th Azlan Shah hockey event on Friday here in Ipoh, Malaysia to set the final date with reigning world and defending champions Germany.

Though Pakistan had taken the lead in the 4th minute through deadly short corner drag flick by Sohail Abbass, it was the Koreans who dominated the most part of the second half as Pakistan defense appeared to be in complete disarray. It was custodian Alam who was up against the ruthless Korean attack particularly from the left side.

The Korean onslaught can be judged by the fact that they got eight short corners in second half, taking the tally to 10 in the whole match but for most of the time their shots found goalie Alam or at times going missing the posts.

Pakistan take on Germany in the final on Sunday who are unbeaten so far in the tournament while South Korea will face New Zealand in 3rd position match.

26th March2003,IPOH:Pakistan beat hosts Malaysia 3-1 in their 3rd match of the 12th edition of the Azlan Shah cup hockey tournament under way at Azlan Shah stadium here in Ipoh, Malaysia on Wednesday and raised their chances for making it to the final . Pakistan had earlier beaten New Zealand 6-1 and lost to Germany 4-3.

Pakistan took the lead in 4th minute when Sohail Abbas converted a short corner . Pakistan’s second goal also came on a controversial short corner given by umpire David Gentles . The Malaysian players strongly objected to it as the foul had taken place out side the circle but umpire thought it had taken place in the circle so he awarded a short corner. The TV replay, however , did show that the foul had actually taken place out side the circle and the short corner should not have been awarded that was converted by Ali Raza to give Pakistan 2-0 lead. This goes on to show that the video umpire experiment, presently being conducted during this event , should , sooner or later be made part of the game to avoid such controversial decisions.

The Malaysian team reduced the margin in 49th minute through field goal by Norazlan Rahim. Pakistan got another short corner in 58th minute that was perfectly converted by Sohail Abbas to seal victory for Pakistan by 3-1. Though, Pakistan team scored all three goals on short corners, their forward failed to capitalize on chances.

Pakistan team manager Shahid Jaffry and coach Shahnaz Shaikh in the post match press briefing expressed pleasure over the team’s performance and praised the Malaysian team for putting up a brave fight.

23rd March 2003,IPOH:World and defending champions Germany beat Pakistan 4-3 in what turned out to be a sensational match on the seocond day of the 12th Azlan Shah hockey tournament being played here in Ipoh, Malaysia on Sunday in the only match of the day.

The Pakistan did start aggressively but it was Germany who scored the first goal through Maz Lanshut in 8th minute on a short corrne. They soon doubled the lead in 22nd minute when Sebastian Biederlack scored another goal. Pakistan in the meantime got two short corners but those were very well save by the German custodian Arnold Clemens.

Pakistan, however was manage to reduce the margin in 24th minute when on short corner Pakistan’s captain Nadeem after beating a player passed on the ball to Sohail Abbass who then flicked the ball to the right upper corner of the German goalie.

Pakistan instead of increasing their efforts, looked to be relaxed and the German team taking good advantage were able to score another goal by Timo Wess in 33rd minute to make the score 3-1. Pakistan was again able to reduce the margin in 42nd minute when Kashif Jawwad scored on a perfect pass from Dilawar Hussain to make the score 3-2.

The German team exploiting the defense lapses from Pakistan scored another goal in 58th minute when Sascha Reinelt after betting the whole defense gave a beautiful pass to Benjamin Koepp who made no mistake to make the score 4-2. Pakistan came back again with determination and reduced another goal in 66th minute through Rehan Butt. Pakistan however was not able to equalize the match.

Soahil Abbas was a disappointment as he could score only one goal in six short corner that could be stated as one of the reason of Pakistan’s loss. Pakistan had earlier beaten New Zealand 6-1 on Saturday.

On Monday, hosts Malaysia face New Zealand while world champions German take on Asian Games champions Korea who had beaten Malaysia 2-0 in their first match on Saturday. 25TH March is the rest day while Pakistan take on Malaysia and South Korea take on New Zealand on March 26th.

22nd March 2003,IPOH: Pakistan thrashed New Zealand 6-1 in their opening match of 12th edition of Azlan Shah Cup international hockey tournament at Ipoh on Saturday, avenging their 7-1 defeat at the hands of Kiwis in semifinal of Commonwealth Games 2002.

Pakistan players, backed by new officials – manager Colonel (rtd) Shahid Jaffry, coach Shahnaz Shaikh as well as four new players – started briskly and went in the lead in the 9th minute when Kashif Jawad banged the board to take his team 1-0 ahead.

Muhamad Saqlain doubled the lead in the 27th minute on a short corner rebound. The Kiwis were able to reduce the lead to 2-1 in the closing moments of the first half but Pakistan scored two more goals within first eight minutes of the second half to rock the Kiwis. The goals were scored by Shabbir Hussain and Sohail Abbas.

Well in command at 4-1, the rampaging Pakistanis did not give any breathing space to the New Zealanders and scored two more goals in the 51st and 59th minutes through Rehan Butt and Kashif Jawwad to make it 6-1 for Pakistan.

The important feature of this tournament is that FIH is experimenting to explore possibility of having 3rd or TV umpire to give ruling on decisions referred to them by the field umpires.

The umpires in this event are equipped with microphones so that they can communicate with TV umpire sitting in the stadium. The findings of these experiments would be evaluated before any final decision is taken. The first such experiment was conducted during Women’s World Cup in 2002 held at Perth.

:mash: ,inshallah, Pakistan will win the final. Good Luck Pakistan. :dhimpak: on.

This would be a good match to watch I wish Dishnetwork could show the Hockey matches too. PTV Prime should show the Hockey matches I don’t think there will be that big of a concern as compare to Cricket broadcast rights. Or maybe I need to be in PAK to broadcast the actual and orignal PTV

Well goodluck to PAK :jhanda: :jhanda: :jhanda:

heyyyyy.. wait a sec… pakistan aur indiaaa ke match ka kia hua

ehsaan bhia.. internet par kahin videos nahi aaty kia after tha game?

Insha’Allah Best of Luck to Pakistan team :k:

:jhanda:

India chickened out they are not playing in this tourny.

Where is the final :konfused:

Ipoh, Malaysia.

^...thanks :)

Wonderful game by Pakistan. Hats off to the players. Sohail Abbas scored the goal in the 4th minute of the first half on the penalty corner. Lucky one! Shahnaz Sheikh and team players should take this into deep consideration for the Final game to acheive more penalty corners in order to pin down the opponent. Overall, performance of the team wasn’t good but we still managed to qualify for the Final, Alhamdulliah.

I must say our Goali Ahmad Alam saved 10 goals on 10 penalty corners, otherwise, we would have lost the game. South Korea failed to score on penalty corners. The defence of Pakistan was weak in the second half compared to the first. Koreans were desparately tryin’ hard to score but it was Ahmed Alam, who stood and faced challenged posed by the Koreans. The guy is simply amazing.

Good Luck to Pakistan in the Final. :k:

Hockey/Azlan Shah Cup: Germany-Pakistan showdown

Mar 29: DEFENDING champions Germany had to dig deep into their reserves to beat a stubborn New Zealand 3-2 to keep their record clean in the Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, yesterday.

Germany will meet Pakistan to decide the winner tomorrow, with the Germans having a slight advantage as they won 4-3 in the pool match. But Pakistan coach Shahnaz Sheikh warned that they aim to topple the defending champions, making it a mouth-watering final.

**Pakistan played one of their worst matches yesterday, but still managed to beat South Korea 1-0. **

In the first match, Germany scored two quick goals before the first quarter of the match but the Kiwis were a determined lot and fought for every ball and managed to get the equaliser.

Max Landshut scored off a penalty corner in the eighth minute and Christopher Zeller sounded the board in the 14th minute and the Germans were sure they had broken the Kiwis.

But New Zealand charged back into the game after Hayden Shaw flicked in a penalty stroke in the 30th minute, and they went into the dressing room with an outside chance of winning the match.

And 10 minutes into the second half, they got the equaliser when Wayne McIndoe sneaked unnoticed and slammed home.

Germany were in no mood to share points with the Kiwis and when Christoph Beckmann’s cheeky scoop sailed over goalkeeper Paul Woolford in the 53rd minute, they were back in control and sailed home with 12 points from four matches.

In the second match, South Korea needed four goals to pip Pakistan to the final, but a fourth minute penalty corner settled the dispute early.

**Sohail Abbas’ flick grazed the top bar and crashed into the back of the goalmouth.

Korea were as stubborn as ever and they went on the offensive but goalkeeper Ahmad Alam was in form and the slim lead remained at half time. ** :k:

The second half was a drab affair as Korea struggled to hold the ball, while the Pakistan forwards were blunt in the semi-circle.

Korea pressed very hard in the last five minutes, but Ahamd Alam was in no mood to settle for a draw.
