Pakistan vs South Africa - Test Series

Any news on Sami

The selection of Razzaq ahead of Gul is sending out the wrong message. Razzaq is being picked on batting ability, he's not going to take test wickets. The only chance he has of taking wickets is against the left-handers so i would bowl him mainly against them. If he picks up more than 2 wickets against right-handers then I'm a monkey's uncle.

yeah. He's not playing.

I agree. He used to chip in with 2-3 wickets regularly at the beginning of his career. But his performance has really gone down. I fail to understand why Australians are so fascinated with him. not only Dean Jones, but I’ve also heard Richie and other aussies praise him often. :konfused:

Take a look at his one day bowling graphy:

http://www.howstat.com.au/cricket/Statistics/Players/PlayerBowlGraph_ODI.asp?PlayerID=2191

Green bars are the wickets taken. red bars are runs given. I’ll let you form the judgement. It appears he’s slowed down since August 2002.

I haven't looked at the stats but these are the main factors behind them IMO:

Razzaq's a good ODI player because he can score runs quickly and restrict the opposition from doing the same through bowling a tight line and length.

He's a bad test player because he's restricted in stroke play and can be taegeted to his weaknesses and line and length isn't going to get wickets at test level as we saw form the SA bowlers.

Also, with regular ball changes the reverse swing has been eliminated from Pakistan's bowling arsenal much like the bouncer was eliminated from the Windies fast bowling attack during their heydey.

Our main weapon against the South Africans was pace, and one can not expect Razzaq to bowl nasty bouncer @ 155 KPH @ their batsman.
He needs to pull something out of the ordinary to take wickets.
Same goes for Gul and Shabbir.

Well Gul can get the ball to move both ways off the seam so he's slightly less predictable. Both he and Shabbir can get the new ball to bounce a bit so they might have picked up early wickets. What's Razzaq gonna do? Bore them to death?

You talking about oneday int'ls naa? Because ei m sure the ball isnt changed in tets unless its out of shape or seak is damaged!!

Haven't seen Razzaq bowl in a test match in years, but he does have a test hatrick to his name against the Sri lankan middle order on the flat wickets of Colombo.

South Africa have won the toss and have elected to bat...

Razzaq will be sharing the new ball with Shabbir Ahmad

SA will not be in any preasure since Shoaib and Sami are not playing.

Shabir is bowling very well. Seems like "S" has taken over well from the two S's.
