wow, what a match. worth watching again and again.
291 by new NZ team is not bad either. good game by both teams.

6 debutants and they set target of 291 tells the tale of our bowling strength. If it were not for Razzaq's mighty hitting we would have lost the game. Just like against SA where Shoaib Malik's hard hitting won us the 1 of the 2 games. There is no excuse for letting 291, it was not fault of one bowler or excuse of experience, only Shabbir was lacking experience but he proved to be the best of the lot today.
We won the game, its an amazing victory, but the bowling needs a look! Only when Shoaib Akhtar is there we are in good shape.
Congrats to everyone for the victory, I sincerely hope that we take the series 5-0.

I think while it cannot be denied that Akhtar makes our attack much more potent, there were different reasons for today's poor bowling performance.
For starters, I think our bowlers might have taken it easy thinking that the new NZ players would just roll over which they obviously didn't.
And more importantly, we also went in wth 5 bowlers only. Whenever we have gone in a match with 5 bowlers in recent years, a disaster normally is the result. You never know with all-rounders (esp. Razzler) whether they're gonna put in good overs or not. We need another bowler (I would like Rauf but seems like Gul will get the nod) in there at the expense of a batsman (perhaps Misbah).

It would have been true if the failure was from one or two bowlers, but its reverse only one bowler performed well others sucked. okay make it 2 performed better.

good point.
Just heard Geo TV president Imran Aslam on News and he told the whole story about why not Geo given uplink facility. And he narrated all the facts that prove the mostly it was people in the information ministry who want PTV to show cricket at all costs. Geo president said that they even offered PTV to show matvh live free of cost on ptv, just give us the uplink and it was denied. Geo won the contract Fair and square and PTV plus information ministry backed down on the agrement at the 11th hour. Thats a shame. pure shameful act. Lets see if this shameful incident gets noticed by highest authorities or not and next match is shown live or not.

Is that any wonders that we don't get foreign investments as much? I think Geo should sue the government and beat the heck out of it, but I bet the justice system will show its failures.
hot damn, I missed it. when do they have major news again? 12 or 11? Anyway, time to invite Sheikh Rashid and Geo Pres. on Capital Talk. ![]()
^^
@captial talk. He pointed out that two other pvt channels (ARY music one of them) got the uplink facility against BD and SA, why not Geo then? , i think 12 o clock pe dubara aaye gaa…
Changes_like-- you are abosultely right, that was the same reason taht person pointed out that foriegn invesetment is low because of such tactics…
Lahore match hit by television rights row
LAHORE, Nov 29, 2003 (Reuters)
Saturday’s one-day match between Pakistan and New Zealand was not televised due to a row over transmission rights between the state-run Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) and the local cricket board.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sold the rights for the five-match series to the private GEO channel, but PTV claimed there was no proper bidding process.
The state-run Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority sided with the PTV and did not provide an up-link facility to GEO for Saturday’s match to be screened.
Ramiz Raja, chief executive of PCB, said PTV had opted not to participate in the bidding process.
“Everyone knew this series was up for sale. It was no big secret,” he said. “We sold the rights to the highest bidder.”
It was the first time since 1967 that an international cricket match in Pakistan was not aired, triggering a flood of calls to the PCB’s offices by angry fans.
Last year, PCB sold Pakistan television rights for a five-year period to a Dubai-based channel, Taj Sports Network, for $43 million. However the New Zealand series was not included in the deal.

Razzaq foils New Zealand
LAHORE, Pakistan, Nov 29, 2003 (Reuters)
All rounder Abdul Razzaq spoiled the party for New Zealand, inspiring Pakistan to an exciting three-wicket win in the first one-day international on Saturday.
Coming in with 69 still needed from 45 balls, Razzaq smashed 47 from 22 balls and with Muhammad Sami (17 from eight balls) turned the match as the home side sped to victory on 292 for seven in 48 overs.
New Zealand conceded 34 runs in the last two overs bowled by Michael Mason and Chris Cairns. Razzaq struck three fours and two sixes in all while tailender Sami hit two sixes.
New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum dropped a miscued shot from Razzaq at 258 for seven and that proved decisive.
Captain Cairns could not supplement his blazing 84 from 51 balls earlier in the day that powered New Zealand towards a challenging 291 for five in 50 overs.
He proved to be the most expensive bowler for the visitors, going for 52 in six overs.
When New Zealand had batted Pakistan were clearly surprised by the spirit shown by a depleted side playing with six debutants in the absence of key players.
Mathew Sinclair (55) and new boy Hamish Marshall (also 55) laid the foundations with a third-wicket stand of 99.
In the Pakistan innings, the Kiwis appeared to have the match under control when Cairns trapped Inzamam-ul-Haq leg before for 49 in the 36th over.
But they had reckoned without Razzaq who earlier in the day had also taken two wickets.
The next match in the five-game series is in Lahore on Monday.

it already is. stuff like this, and then every member of our cricket stands up and starts shouting in public (Sohail, Miandad, Inzimam, Latif, PCB) against each other… sometimes it makes me think that I should stop following cricket for a few months and let things get settled (if they do, at all), its all so sick.
Must have been a great match!
Will they be showing the replays on dishnetwork?

Refusal to uplink Geo signals deprived cricket fans from watching live telecast
(Updated at 2250 PST)
KARACHI: Refusal to allow uplink signals to Geo was the cause behind the unavailability of live telecast of the first One day international between Pakistan and New Zealand in Lahore on Saturday.
According to the Geo television despite an understanding the licensing authority refused for up linking the signals as a result millions of people were deprived watching the cricket match. The Geo TV said that the reasons for refusal to uplink were the PTV insistence to telecast the live match alone. Geo had also sold rights to other TV channels including PTV and all the arrangements were made in accordance with the internaional standards by Geo TV which included installation of cameras, system and other necessary technical material at the Qadhafi stadium Lahore. The Geo said that prominent commentators were also present in the stadium to cover the match, however as a refusal to uplink the signals by the authorities, millions of viewers worldwide were deprived to watch the cricket match.
Meanwhile President Geo Television Imran Aslam has said that despite a fault of the authorities responsible for up linking signals, Geo apologizes its worthy viewers and cricket fans for having been deprived from watching the live telecast of the match.

I think we need to call and check with dish network if they are showing the replay of this match or not. Also, any chance that we can get our money refunded atleast for this match? Anyone in North America able to check on these 2 questions?
Great victory for Pakistan.
Those who say Razzaq and Moin should not be there, look at their contribution. Moin came in after the fall of the first three wickets and laid the foundations with Inzi.
As for our bowling lets not criticise it too much, it was a batting pitch and thats why they made 291 and thats why we made 292 with two overs to spare. Someone said If Razzaq had not hit in the end we would have lost. Look at it another way, if NZ had not scored 53+ runs in the last three overs we would have won comfortably. The point being it all happens in a match so relax and enjoy a terrific win.
5/0 is on. :):):)
