Well a big win and some destructive bowling at least should boost morale. Batting is looking unlikely at the moment. I'm just hoping they deliver when the time comes. You can never tell with this lot.

we all knew who waz MoM Wasim Akram

Well over all a good performance specially bowling was devestating. Akram and Shoaib just swept aside ruthlessly. This will improve the runrate for sure. But i m not sure about the team combination though. Razzaq is struggling and is totally un reliable with the Ball though his late order hitting will always be benficial against big teams. I think this is the team i think which will play throughout.

Batting ofcourse worries every fan. But i hope they will peak when it matters, specially Inzimam. We need to pass 250 on consistent basis to give our bowlers something to bowl at. Today i thought everyone was trying to spend sometime in the middle. Like Saeed, Elahi, Younis, no one was trying to thrash the bowling. Well lets see in fiture games. Best of luck Guys.

Good morale boosting performance. Wasim, Shoaib you ROCK :k: The big game against England and India need to be won , insha’allah :jhanda:

I totally agree with imran Khans views....he said tht pakistan were short of 20-30 runs but it isnt easy to get big scores against such teams coz the batsmen are relaxed....n batsmen play better when there is some sort of pressure and tension....he again said tht pak's strenght was its bowling and it shud always bat first.....and said tht inzi shud bat one-down...jus heard him on the radio
congrat Pak
Akram two short of 500!

Well bowled Wasim and Shoaib. Overall, a good performence by Pakistan as expected. Next game will be a test for this side...against England. Lets hope our bowling is like it was today :)

**Wasim and Shoaib rip out Namibia **

By Julian Linden

KIMBERLEY, South Africa (Reuters) - Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram have produced devastating fast bowling to dismiss Namibia for just 84 and give Pakistan a crushing 171-run victory in World Cup Group A.

Man-of-the-match Wasim captured five for 28 and Shoaib four for 46 as Namibia crumbled to the fourth lowest total in the tournament’s history in reply to Pakistan’s 255 for nine.

Namibia’s innings lasted just 17.4 overs, but it could have been worse as they collapsed to 42 for nine before a partnership of 42 between Bjorn Kotze and Rudi van Vuuren.

The last-wicket pair prevented the African side from posting the lowest ever World Cup total, still Canada’s 45 against England in 1979.

Showing no mercy against a team of scratch amateurs, Pakistan’s fearsome opening bowlers terrorised the Namibians from the outset.

Namibia lost five wickets in the first three overs, four batsmen made ducks and only three players, Jan-Berry Burger (14) and tailenders Bjorn Kotze (24 not out) and Van Vuuren (14) reached double figures.

Wasim made the initial breakthrough on Sunday when he had Riaan Walters caught behind without scoring in his first over, then Shoaib struck twice, having Stefan Swanepoel caught at slip by Inzamam-ul-Haq and sending the ball crashing into Danie Keulder’s stumps.

Wasim, playing a record 34th World Cup match, got rid of Gavin Murgatroyd (4) and Louis Burger (0) in successive balls but missed out on a hat-trick.

Shoaib was also on a hat-trick after dismissing Jan-Berry Burger and Gerrie Snyman, but failed to achieve the feat.

Wasim dismissed Melt van Scoor (2) and Deon Kotze to complete his sixth five-wicket haul in one-day internationals and edge to within two wickets of becoming the first player to reach the magical 500 milestone.

FASTEST DELIVERY

Shoaib, whose fastest delivery was timed at 159.1 kph, almost claimed a five-wicket haul of his own when he bowled Bjorn Kotze with the total on 52, only to see the delivery called a no-ball, leaving spinner Saqlain Mushtaq to mop up the final wicket.

Namibia’s woeful batting display spoiled what had been a much improved performance by their bowlers.

After conceding 340 in their opening defeat by Zimbabwe, the African part-timers did well to restrict Pakistan.

Saleem Elahi scored a patient 63 off 100 balls to spare his team’s blushes as the Pakistan batsmen struggled to master a pedestrian but keen Namibian attack.

Soundly beaten by Australia in the their first game, Pakistan opted to bat first to give their top order some practice, but they showed a distinct lack of urgency.

But although no-one except Elahi passed 50, most of Pakistan’s main batsmen spent some time in the middle, with Yousuf Youhana making 43, Rashid Latif 36, Younis Khan 28 and Saeed Anwar 23.

Batting not impressive at all. These Pakistanis need chitrol.

batting remains to be a concern.

but a win is a win :jhanda:

Howcome Pak is still under India in the points table?? How is this R/R calculated? India won by 68 runs in their first match and lost by 9 wickets in their second. Pak lost by 82 runs in their first and won by 171 runs in their second. Pak's performance seems to have been much better than India's but we are still under them in the points table.

The table on tv after the match was a mistake. Pakistan has +0.9 and India is -0.3. Check out Ehsan's table on one of the threads here.

ok thanx

Yeah true, because I was surprised to see India's net rate better than Pakistan, because India lost to a bigger margine to Australia than Pakistan did. And also they beat Holland by 60 odd runs while Pakistan beat Namibia by 180 odd runs.

i think all in all pakistan should be happy with our performance this time. all the batters looked to be in good enough nick except inzamam who needs to get his act together.

saeed anwar was timing the ball with his trademark sweetness and he looked to be in good nick as well which is amazing considering how long he`s been out...i would have liked to see him spend more time in the middle but still he looks good..thank god.

bowling was devastating and everyone was working hard.good win for us.bring on the pommies

I was hoping to see a score of 350+. Zimbabwe scored 340 or more against the same team. It means we will definitely have hard time agains ALL teams. A last minute inclusion hits “world class” attack for 140+, a minnow team restricts Pakistani batting for 255 :nook:

I say, a poor batting show, boooooooooo. Its really hard to see Pakistan proceeding to Super Six.

Semi-Finals??? Good luck Pakistan.

Changez bhai, there was a time when Pakistan used to give a score of 180 to 200 and its bowlers actually defneded that very convincingly... That worked for us in the past...

yep exactly and it will work in this tournament sa well insha’allah.

Well we all gun out for Waqar for almost every move he makes but no one commends whenever the credit is due. His decision to give new ball to Shoaib Selflessly ,knowing that he himself has taken lots of wickets with new ball and his wickets tally will go down in this cup but for the betterment of Team he has decided to come first change and i think he will be effective there too insha’allah. But he and team committee has got this decision Spot on. :k: Good Job Captain saab, I hope he continues to improve as the tournament grows.

Everyone talks about dropping afridi, how about dropping Inzimam? :grumpy:

very wel said saby :k:
Waqar is a very gud captain and people shuld jus give him a break.
