Now that Pakistan has put up another pathetic performance, they seriously have to get their acts together. They’ve put themselves in a tough spot in terms of going into the 6’s. Waqar and management needs to understand the reasons behind this loss and learn from them.

Firslt, Afridi shouldn’t play. Early in his career, opposition teams din’t had much knowledge about his game. But now its all too ez. His bowling is awful, even younis khan is better then him. He shd sit out the against india and holland. Elahi shd play as. He’s more conservative and in much better nick then our great shahid bhai.

Youhana, Younis, and Inzi better pick up the slack and start putting up some solid numbers. Youhana is v. shaky and Inzi is playing like a girl! :hula:. Saeed bhai tried to put Pakistan back into the game but couldn’t do so. Atleast he showed some signs of form.

Azhar Mehmood needs a chance as well. Its a shame he dint play against England, when it was known that conditions would be overcast. He is a medium pacer who swings the ball rather well. Sami always deserves a chance, and shaoib has done nothing that’ll gurantee him a spot. Oh yeah, he’s now officially “the 100 mile man”. Unfortunately, it wont win us any game. He got wacked around by the Aussies, the Namibians, and the lower English order. Although, he scored a career high 43 which must have put out top order to shame.

Anywayz, I just hope they beat the dutch convincingly and get the win in the all-important encounter against the Indians. This one surely will be for the ages.

Afridi's bowling is Awful?? Wat are you on bro? He was 2/36 in 8 overs today againt England on a pitch which highly favored the batsmen. If you wanna talk about awful bowling then talk about Razzaq, who hasn't done anything with the bowl or bat in the whole tournament. If anyone needs to be kicked out, its him, and replace him with Azhar. Rest of the team should be the same, or maybe bring in an extra batsmen since Inzi is horribly out of touch.

A 2-for in a game doesn't make him a great bowler. He's a struggler in the bowling dept irrespective of that. Plus as an opener he's an immense liablity. Abdur's bowling is awful too. Azhar shd play instead.

In my view this should be the Paki team against India and Holland

Saqi and razzaq have not justified there position in the team and should be axed.

I agree on that point akpower.

There are 4 things that are staring Waqar’s Pak side in the face and all we are doing are getting hypnotized by them.

1- Playing Afridi in the hope that he may give the “performance” that he manages to give once in 30 games; and dropping players who should have played in all probability to accomodate this joker. Against AUS Saqlain felt the axe, and yesterday it was Elahi despite being the highest run-scorer so far. Atrocious decision! The odd 1-2 wickets that Afridi picks up are good but are at most a bonus; heck Sami could pick them up if he would’ve been played. Our problem is sense of direction in out batting, not the bowling’s firepower. It never was.

2 The failure of Inzi. Now technically speaking, there is almost no way he’ll be dropped so all we can do is hope the former mota/now mucchar starts performing soon.

4- Abdul Razzaq, who is only being not being dropped because of his past heroics at # 3. But he’s been out of sorts not only during the WC but in the series before that. His body language is extremely negative and all he’s doing is eating up Azhar’s and Sami’s position big time, both players who can (and have) performed well on these pitches.

and most importantly,
4- Winning the bloody toss. :biggrin: But seriously, jokes aside, our uphill battle starts the second we are asked to field first, as the current batting lineup has some really poor chasers.

so I would say in a nuthsell, for

HOL: Azhar and Sami/Elahi in for Abdul Razzaq and Afridi. In ideal world, I’d bring in Elahi for Inzi, but that’s an ambitious call. So hopefully we bat first and give Inzi and Youhana enough time in the middle for the crunch game up next.

IND: Retain Elahi for the game at all costs, as well as Azhar if he performed well. The other 9 are the regulars.

ZIM: Have no mercy. Forget big names and send your current best XI (those in form) to the frontline and blast the opposition to as big a win as they can and to create a big margin defeat. In either case (win or loss to IND) there is a high chance it’ll come down to run-rate now for three teams on 12 pts.

akpower bhai the problem is that saqi is no more a match winner. I think afridi still makes the final eleven but he should bat at number 6 or 7 and let elahi and anwar do the openning.

I still think they will play Afridi against India...

In my opinion, one of the biggest culprits of the batting failure is Saeed Anwar. Look at where is average has dropped to now...

I dont blame the bowlers, or the captain for losing these matches, its just our batting lineup, and the the sad thing is, these are good batsmen we are talking about!!!

I think the team against holland should be

This will make sure that others players get a chance to play aswell. Either Shoiab Akhtar or Wasim Akram should rest to give Sami a chance.

Again it is important to have a big win here and also against zimbabwe to improve our currently Horrid NRR.

I would like to see largely the same team against india aswell but that can be decided after the performance against Holland. The players to watch would be Taufeeq Umar, Azhar Mahmood and Mohammed Sami.

Afridi failed against Australia and against England's seamers under lights. I could have told you that would happen before the tournament. If we were going to play him it should have been against the likes of Holland, India and Zimbabwe. Khair it's too late now. The real problems are with Inzi and Yoyo not producing. They have to stay out in the middle against Holland and get some runs under their belts and then it's stand and deliver time against India. No more excuses, no hiding place. Younis Khan has some questions to answer as well.

Younis Khan should be playing domestic cricket and not wandering around on the field in the world cup. He has no technique - he has never scored against any top team in any challenging conditions.

This is the team that they should play. Taufeeq can also bowl off spin and is far more correct than Younis Khan. Youhana and Inzamam have to get runs at 4 or 5. Mahmood should have been in the team since game one in place of Razzaq who cant seem to bat or bowl at all.

I think this should be the team to play against Holland. Afridi smahed 55 fo 18 balls last time against Holland, so he is a must to play against them...since qualifying to the super sixes will come down to the net run rate.

We must see how we do against a team like Holland before we decide what team to go with in the crucial match against India.

What ever eleven they decide to go with against India or Holland...I don't think Pakistan can put together this talented/quality team ever again.

Its a shame that the captain is not at his peak and batsmen have let the country down...but like Khan sahib said in his article that it is very frustrating to see a team with so much potential struggle to make it to super sixes.

In the '92 world cup we didn't even have regular bowlers let alone world class or fastest bowler..Imran bowled Ejaz Ahmed and Amir Sohail to complete 50 overs quota...We won that world cup because we had great cricketing minds like Jawed Miandad and Khan himself.. They showed how innings are architected and how matches are won..

If Imran was the captain I highly doubt Afridi would be playing as an opener or with all due respect… Inzimam would be in the eleven. In Pakistan's cricket big names have always made it to the team regardless of how they are performing.

Lets see what unprofessionals do against India.

whoever wins, goes to super six. at this point Pak needs to win all its matches, and India/England must lose at least one or two matches.

Take Sqlain out and include Salim Elahi. Strenthen our batting. Give some overs to Younis or Anwar if required. I'm tired of sixth bolwer option. It costs us one specialist batsman.

I'm telling you guys saqlain has been terrible since he was recalled. Every one is playing him with great ease. He consistently bowls at the leg side. The two wickets he got was not anything special. Flintoff missed a shot and got stumped. Afridi caught a wonderful catch that was a six all the way.

Afridi looked more of a strike bowler than Saqlain.

The reason we struggle to chase is because we don't have players like salim Malik and Javed miandad. Imran khan was right , enough with the alrounders. They hit and miss all the time. They have no application whatsoever.The wicket of Razzaq/Azhar Mehmood and afridi is a gift to the oppositions.

Can anyone tell me why the indian bowlers are left unnoticed. Or is it only me?. The bowlers have been really consistent . They are the silent warriros overshadowed by the over hyped Indian Batting line up. I think India has a very balanced side. Zaheer khan is one heck of a bowler. He will give our batsmen alot of problems with his bouncers. He angles the bowl to the right handers very effectively.

Right now I believe India is much stronger side than Pakistan. We have to take out Tendulakar Shewag and Ganguly at the early stages to be in the game.
On the side note finally I got see shewag's batting. Indeeed he is a very good hitter of the bal; but he is very volnurable. He tends to make wrong stroke shots that results in a catch or anything. He is not anything like tendulkar. Tendulakr shots are very caluclated. He doesnt get out easily.

Shewag is a much improve form of Imran nazir. Sorry guys he can't be the next tendulakr though.

India's bowlers are ordinairy. Zaheer Khan will get creamed by top flight batsmen. Srinath is still their only decent pace bowler and the next best are the spinners, Harbajan and Kumble.

Sachin and Sehwag are a good opening pair and it makes me laugh to see Ganguly suddenly becoming a 'danger' again. He was always a good batsmen but because he hit a bad run of formeveryone started to call for his head. Just like they are now calling for Inzimam's and Yoyo's ;)
