Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi *Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006*

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

Like I said Acrobi… it has less to do with what “may be” a chasable target… but what the other team perceives to be chasable. If the Indian Team looks at anything more than 600, they’ll prolly not be interested in risking the loss of wickets to make it to meet that target… with anything around 550 or 575, there would be a perception that the target is achievable with a little extra effort, and its the extra effort which might lend itself to Pak’s advantage if the opposition errs somewhat, in addition to any help the pitch may provide to the spinners.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

Pakistanies should have declared and put india in. They could have been like 2 down already. I see lack of confidence in the paki think tank in their bowlers. How can one go wrong. having around 500 or more run they have the match safely in their hand. Even if India score briskly. they can always set a defensive field and make it a draw.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

I understand what Umer T and F&B bhai are saying, all out attack but I dont think so such a thing will happen. I know anything above 500 to chase is a heck of target but many things are to be considered.
Pakistan bowled very well in the first innings no doubt about that but, will this wicket seam, swing and spin, yes for sure it will, but this will be same as any 4th day / 5th day wicket on National Stadium. Shoaib Akther would need to bowl very well, Asif is only in his 3rd Test match, he has bowled very well but still he is a new bowler in this arena, and Pakistan's habit of dropping the catches will not help them at all, I know I am counting the -ive points you may say but, as a whole we have a potent attack not a match winning attack in his own right, so caution is the new word around!

I still have my reservations that Pakistan will be ready to declare around 550.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

500 runs in 180 overs, that is 2.78 runs per over. How do you set a defensive field to that. On top of that if Sehwag gets into one of his moods we could be introuble. I would bat till lunch , score over 600 and than have india in.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

Thats too defensive. I see a draw here. Will work for India. Rubber stays with India

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

I don't think so, if you can survive 5 sessions you can survive 6 as well. It is just a matter of batting your team out of the match.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

Just make sure that in that process you dont bat out yourself out of game too.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

I agree, this Test is still wide open. Pakistan’s bowling was good in the first inng but not extra ordinary. Most of the Indian players gave away their wickets. There were some really good delieveries by Asif and Razzaq but I don’t think they will get the ‘same’ kind of assistance on Day 4 and 5. Pakistan will have to bowl their heart out to win this Test match.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

^^ The test is not wide open. Wide open means that India also has a chance to win.
I am not saying that India won't be able to draw the match but all odds are against them.
Pakistan will be giving them a target of 600+. No way they will be achieving it. We all know that. Even if they try to be offensive, they will be losing a wicket eventually and than they will be totally defensive. Its the biggest match of the series, the decider. India will be batting in the last innings. With more than 5 sessions, they will be coming under pressure from time to time. It won't be like batting in the first innings at Lahore.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

39-6 to over 500 runs lead. It's been a roller-coaster ride for both teams and I don't think it's over. At the same time, I am not going to underestimate Dravid, Tendi and others. Their batting line is long and capable. Karachi ground is notorious for big chases, few teams have been bowled out in their second inngs.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

I can only remember 314 which Pakistan chased against australia. Half of the matches at national stadium ended in a draw. Rest of them Pakistan won but never had to chase a huge target except on few occasions.
Test Cricket has changed tremendously in the last 5-6 years. It has become too fast, unlike the old times. But Karachi has hosted very few matches in the last 5-6 years. The reason why few teams have been bowled out in the last innings is that either the match ended in a boring draw or Pakistan had to chase targets like 12, 45, 88, 65, 69, 74, 98, 98, 137, 164 in the final innings. Obvoisuly Pakistan chased them all and won those matches. Now they are not at all big chases.
In coming years, if karahci gets more matches, than with the fast pace of test cricket, that stats of team not getting out in the final innings will change.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

3 more hours remaining till the match starts :D

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

I agree..probably we dont have to bat till lunch...10 more overs and 70 more runs would be helpfull....

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

The side batting second has only been dismissed twice in last 37 occasions in Karachi. This is what they were telling on StarN.
Its going to be a tough one.

Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006

Conditions are overcast at the NSK, very similar to how it was on the 1st day. Waqar says in such conditions the ball will definitely swing. Too bad we will be the ones batting through it..........
