Re: Pakistan vs Australia - First Test (July 13-17)

289-10

North a part timer got 6 wickets.. wtf.. :\

Lost by 150 runs..

Australia's 13th straight win against Pakistan which is new record..

278 runs

[/QUOTE]

ok we are 12 runs ahead of my prediction (under 5% margin of error) but still all hail to me for accurate prediction :)

Re: Pakistan vs Australia - First Test (July 13-17)

Australia should win but they are not the team they were from 1999 to 2007

I think England (perhaps not IN Australia) and India can beat this Aussie side

Pakistan's test batting just isn't good enough

Australia were 100/4 (effectively 205/4) in their second innings after day 2. They added another 234 runs yesterday! Could the bowlers also have done a bit better in the second innings?

Re: Pakistan vs Australia - First Test (July 13-17)

from cricinfo:

Australia win by 150 runs and it's been an impressive performance. They fought hard with the bat in bowler-friendly conditions and their own attack found two unlikely heroes in Shane Watson and Marcus North, but a word too for Ben Hilfenhaus who bowled very well.

what a shame!!! A bowler like North doing the traditional ball raise after taking six wickets. I say MCC should sue Pakistan for this embarassing moment in the history of Lords and MCC.

Re: Pakistan vs Australia - First Test (July 13-17)

In the end we were done in by two part-timers

Watson in the 1st innings
North in the second

Will the PCB now have the balls to call Younus for the second test?

Re: Pakistan vs Australia - First Test (July 13-17)

150 or so added by last couple of Australian wickets really what cost Pakistan this match. :hmmm:

146 runs were added by Australia’s last three wickets

188/7 > 334 all out

Re: Pakistan vs Australia - First Test (July 13-17)

From Cricinfo:

Rohan from Spain makes a very valid point. "Take the last two wicket stands from Australia's second innings (120-odd) and we may have had an interesting match!" Just shows the value of tail-end runs. **
"
In the first innings Pakistan collapsed to Shane Watson. In the second innings Pakistan collapsed to part time offspinner North," says Abdullah. "In the next test match Pakistan will collapse to Simon Katich and Michael Clarke."

*Brilliant comments

this is what I had said earlier. One day our attack looks the best on earth and yet next day they'll somehow lose the momentum and let things go out of their hands. In Aus' second inning, about half the scoring was done by those who weren't even established battsmen including some 120 by the last two wickets. There's just no explaination for that and thats exactly what took the game away from us.

Re: Pakistan vs Australia - First Test (July 13-17)

the issue is not North taking the wickets - the pressure does unbelievable things..on any other he would have been belted.

The real issue is letting Australia to that score

Australian players w’d have been more focussed had they been defending 250 odd. They would have played with a lot more intensity

And our illustrious batters w’d have then found a way to get bowled out for < 150 (just like Sydney test)

do we deserve too?

Breaking News:

**Well, we are hearing news from the ground (not fully confirmed at the moment) that Shahid Afridi has just told Jim Maxwell on radio that the Headingley Test will be his last.

but we have a little more news on Afridi. He has nominated Salman Butt as his successor, but says it will be a board decision. He is struggling with a thigh injury, apparently **

Re: Pakistan vs Australia - First Test (July 13-17)

Good game by upper and middle order,

Salman Butt
Azhar Ali
Umer Amin

Played really well, Pakistan need to continue with them and should take out all the batsmen who got themselves out, Imran Farhat aka Damad, Umer Akmal, Kamran Akmal and Shahid Afridi are the one to blame for ruining the foundation provided by the top order, had Umer Akmal showed some patience and applied himself on the wicket just like Salman Butt and Azhar Ali did, we may still have match going on... but younger Akmal was in a kind of urgency, i think he should be rested for next match as he has done this for 3rd or 4th time in a row...

With the given position of Afridi i don't think so there is any position for him in next match he failed as a bowler and he failed as a batsmen, Kamran Akmal gets the blame to, although he was playing well for his 46 but he need to play with the conditions and not try to tell us how great shots he can play and then gets out while trying to play them...

Re: Pakistan vs Australia - First Test (July 13-17)

We alreay are short of experience in the middel

cant afford to keep Akmal Brother out

can he change his mind please?

can he declare that today's game was his last one?

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has said he will retire from Test cricket following the second Test against Australia at Headingley starting next Wednesday.

Afridi made his announcement to BBC Radio after leading Pakistan in a 150-run defeat in the first Test at Lord’s. He said he no longer had the temperament for the five-day game after what was his first Test in four years.

More to follow …

no longer ??

so he thinks that at some point in time he actually had?
