Previous Aussie sides had Gilchrist in late-middle order who often rescued them after mini-collapses. This team has no batsman of Gilchrist’s calibre after Ponting
Had Ponting not been grassed by Aamer when he was on nought, I doubt that Australia w’d be in such a dominant position at the close
But since our current batters struggle to score even 200 collectively in a test innings, it is purely academic whether Australia are 300 odd for 3 or 300 odd for 7 after day1
