There are many players who can play. So, one might find a reasonable player even though better players may not get chance. If team is selected using merit than even if team loses than it would not hurt, as winning and losing is part of game. But winning and losing becomes meaningless if team do not represent merit.
Players playing for country (National team) has to be best players country can provide, and that means nothing but performance should determine place in national team. So … selection should be that … Pakistan should have ranking system for each player playing domestic (and international) cricket and no player should get chance to play for national team before any player in ranking above him.
Country can have two set of ranking, one for test and other for ODI.
Since test and ODI played for country counts as element used to determine ranking of player, in such system, no player can afford to play bad in national team and expect to keep his place in next match.
I think, such system is must for Pakistan where parchi, tasub, subayeet, rushwat, rishtadari, taluk, pasand, napasand, etc is rampant, and other than automated selection, any selection would be seen with suspect … but automated selection would have no reason for anyone to cry foul.
Batting has always been my biggest concern about Pakistan and inconsistent, fragile batting is what makes us such an up and down team in every format
Once again Pak struggled when chasing (infact the very first time they were asked to chase in this tournament!); couldn’t make a good fist of a competitive score.
Didn’t play the spinners well at all, Badree and Narine being our nemesis today (3 wickets apiece)… 4 batsmen stumped says it all…
T20 Windies is very different from Test or ODI Windies and I would not be surprised if they do go on to retain the title now or at least make the final..
Literally two people Bravo and Sammy took the game away from us. Pakistan had the match under control until the 15th over (84/5)…then wheels came off in the last 5 overs
and dismal bowling in the last 4 overs [that spell cast a larger than life shadow on the nerves of Pakistan batsmen when they came out to start their inning]. i couldn’t believe Ajmal giving away 24 runs [his highest ever] in ONE over. Gul shouldn’t have been bowling an over earlier than Ajmal when he leaked 21 runs.
Bad bowling at the death (by Gul and Ajmal for sure. Pak leaked 59 runs off the last 3 and 82 off the last 5 overs… it has happened to many teams before but they don’t just go out and ‘surrender’ with the bat) is not a good enough reason for the abject capitulation that we saw with the bat. 82 is pathetic by any standards. Windies bowling is good but not menacing
