Talking about cricket - I totally believe that Parthiv Patel with his experience will score more runs than either Jaffer or Gambhir, if given an opporunity as an opener.
Infact he handled Akhtar quite well in the last tour.

Akhtar hogs spotlight as Pakistan renew battle with India](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/12012006/3/akhtar-hogs-spotlight-pakistan-renew-battle-india.html)
LAHORE (AFP) - Rejuvenated pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar holds the key to either team’s success as arch-rivals India and Pakistan begin their third Test series in two years from Friday.
The 31-year-old spearheaded Pakistan’s brilliant 2-0 Test victory over Ashes-conquering England at home last month with 17 wickets in three matches.
Akhtar is expected to deliver once more against the old foes who boast a strong batting line-up starring captain Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Venkatsai Laxman and Virender Sehwag.
When India won their maiden series on Pakistan soil in 2004 on their first full tour across the border in 15 years, Akhtar’s lacklustre form contributed to the home team’s downfall.
He was not selected for last year’s tour of India where Pakistan drew the Test series 1-1 and convincingly won the one-dayers 4-2.
“The Indians will find a different bowler in Shoaib this time,” said Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq. “He is fit, committed and raring to go.”
Indian captain Rahul Dravid, hoping to win his first overseas series as captain after replacing Sourav Ganguly, played down the Akhtar effect.
“We do not plan for just one bowler because he is not the only one who will bowl at us,” he said. “Shoaib is a key man for them but we are prepared for him as well as the others.”
Pakistan are confident the cold weather in this eastern city and a hard wicket at the Gaddafi stadium will be ideally suited for the pace attack of Akhtar, Rana Naved and Mohammad Sami and leg-spinner Danish Kaneria.
While Pakistan defeated England, India are coming off a successful home season where they thrashed Sri Lanka 2-0 in the Tests and 6-1 in the one-dayers and drew a limited-overs series with South Africa 2-2.
Dravid, however, scoffed at Inzamam’s prediction that the Indians will start as favourites because of their current form and experience.
“Both teams have played well over the last few months, but that will count for nothing when the series starts on Friday,” the Indian captain said.
"Both start from scratch and whoever plays better over 15 days of the series will emerge successful.
“If I have to predict anything, it is that it will be a well fought series which fans on both sides will enjoy.”
India are likely to field both spinners, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, alongwith two seamers on a brownish wicket that could take turn later in the match.
The touring management are still undecided whether to play Ganguly at the expense of the in-form Yuvraj Singh at number six.
Pakistan’s batting may not appear as formidable on paper, but is effective enough to counter India’s threat.
The supremely talented Inzamam, a veteran of 104 Tests with 8,051 runs and 24 centuries behind him, leads the batting after scoring 431 runs in three matches against England.
Rival coaches Greg Chappell of India and Bob Woolmer of Pakistan, who faced each other on the field in numerous Ashes contests, are as excited about the series as the players.
“I can’t wait to see the intensity of an India-Pakistan contest from the inside,” said Chappell, the former Australian great who took over as India coach in June.
“It should be a great one,” said Englishman Woolmer. “It usually is when India and Pakistan are involved.”
The second Test will be played in Faisalabad from January 21-25 and the third in Karachi from January 29-February 2

Captain Cool takes on the ‘Wall’ in Pakistan](Yahoo! Sports Singapore | News, Scores, Video, Schedules & More)
The Test series between India and Pakistan starting here on Friday will be played on a knife’s edge, but that is unlikely to ruffle the rival captains.
Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq and his Indian counterpart Rahul Dravid are not known to betray theatrical or aggressive gestures. Instead, they let their bats do the talking.
Appearances, however, can be deceptive as Inzamam and Dravid are both tough and ruthless when it comes to serving their teams’ interests.
Inzamam has been learning and improving with every match since taking over the captaincy in 2003, leading Pakistan to remarkable success over Ashes-winning England at home last month.
Critics concede that Inzamam has played a crucial role in transforming a disjointed lot into a fighting unit.
“Inzi’s captaincy has been a revelation,” said former Pakistan skipper Waqar Younis. “All the credit for Pakistan’s success in the last few years has to go to him.”
Added Pakistani great Imran Khan: "Inzamam is in a terrific form and as a captain you need to lead from the front to get the best out of your team.
Dravid, on the other hand, is nicknamed the “Wall” as much for his sound batting technique as for his unflappable temperament.
Dravid replaced Sourav Ganguly as captain less than four months ago, but has already made it evident that he has his own way of leading the team to success.
“People have different ways of showing aggression,” said the 32-year-old Indian captain.
"It does not mean that if you do not show aggression that you are not aggressive. Each one leads in his own style and each one does things differently.
“If you have to be successful, you have got to try and be yourself and not imitate others.”
Dravid has proved his mental toughness by helping India tide over a crisis in different conditions with his solid batting. He is one of the few batsmen who are prolific both at home as abroad.
The ever-consistent Dravid played 94 Tests in a row before missing the third and final match against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad last month due to a stomach ailment.
The stylish middle-order batsman has scored 8,003 runs in Tests with 20 centuries.
Like Dravid, Inzamam is also his team’s key batsman and can always be relied upon in a crisis. Inzamam leads from the front, having already shown that the burden of captaincy has not affected his batting.
“Inzamam and Dravid are both respected in the dressing room,” said Imran. “Dravid is wiser but needs time to establish as captain. Inzamam has transformed into a very good captain in the last one year.”
Inzamam was on song against England, scoring 431 runs in five Test innings with two hundreds and three half-centuries to average a whopping 107.75.
The burly Pakistani captain may be slow in running between wickets, but more than makes up for this flaw with his batting which is all elegance and timing.
Inzamam, with 8,052 runs in 105 Tests, is Pakistan’s highest century-maker with 24 tons.
The third Test series between the arch-rivals in two years gets underway at the Gaddafi stadium here on Friday. The second Test will be played in Faisalabad from January 21 and the third in Karachi from January 29.
India won both the Test and one-day series in Pakistan in 2004, while Pakistan returned the complement on the Indian tour last year by drawing the Test series 1-1 and winning the one-dayers 4-2.
Re: Pakistan v/s India 1st Test @ Lahore 13 - 17 jan 06
Faisal Bhai, I have that uncanny feeling too, about Ganguly scoring big, and that too maybe just to rub BCCI's face in, but yes the Million Dollar Question is will he be in the final 11.
IMO, It would be like adding Insult to Injury, as a Ex Captain to be in the team 16 and not to be in the final 11, But with Sharad Pawar incharge of BCCI, Ganguly's chances of playing the 1st test are much brighter.
Now coming to another issue which is bothering/tormenting everyone, who will win the 1st test (For now' baby steps baby steps), I know I am going to sound like a Hipocrate (sp) but this time around I genuinely feel Shoaib Akhter is going to be the Key.
If we the Indians can Tame him, not only this game but we can probably also pocket the series, otherwise, Khuda Khair Kare.
