Pakistan V Bangladesh - Test and ODI series.

Now I think its going to be an evenly balanced match.
With Bangladesh gaining valuable experience in Australia, specially their batsman and with a very inexperienced Pakistani lineup, don't know who is going to win.

So now its Shoaib Akhtar, Abdur Razzaq, Yousuf Youhana, Younis Khan, and Muhammad Sami out of the series.

Inzi, Saqi, and Kaneria will make a huge difference.

I think Razzaq is playing. In an earlier post I saw an article that said Razzaq confirmed his availabilty and was surprised to learn that people though he was unavailabe. Sami will hopefully be back in the last match. They should probably give someone like Mohammad Akram or Kabir Khan a chance. Ofcourse along with Shabir Ahmad and Umer Gul. With Hafeez and Shoiab Malik we had more bowling options. I just have a gut feeling that Misbah will pile up a lot of runs in this series.

With our team missing so many players this may actually be a decent series. I read Justing Langer's article on BBC and he had some praise for the D team and sounded fairly sincere.
I hope that we can discover a couple of good new players in this series.
Also just wondering if anybody knows, is Misbah related to Imran Khan in some way?

Is it because of Niazi in his name?

Thats if Mizbah is picked for the series. Even if Razzaq is playing, I only want to see him in the one day series, as a test player, he sucks bad.
I also want to see Hasan Raza and Mizbah play in the middle order, with Inzi coming @ #3.
We also need an attacking bowler like Shoaib or Sami in the first 2 test, the word on the street is that Shoaib might be asked to play the test series and skip the one day series only.
I heard Muhammad Akram will be playing county cricket in England for this summer.
Shabbir Ahmed and Umar Gul are decent bowlers, but they are not the attacking test bowlers that we need.
The whole bowling will definitly be depending on the spinners, I am 100% sure both Kaneria and Saqi will be included.

Yes that is what I was thinking. Also because he has'nt really been given much of a chance on the team lately ever since Imran's faction (Wasim, Saleem Malik,,,,) have lost control of the captancy and selection process to Imran's rivals Miandad and Rashid.
Of course this could all just be a coincedance as well.

I would love to see some of the younger batsmen given a chance. Especially since Yunis won'nt be playing as well. That gives an oppertunity to these guys to step up. I am losing patience with Razzaq really quickly. He is so inconsistant. This series is also a great chance for Danish to make himself known, if he stumbles he could be giving Saqi a chance to take his spot on the team back.
Also, this may be a bit of a strange question but why not bring back Aaqib Javed? he is only like 30 and this side could use an experienced fast bowler withe the 2 W's out.

:rotfl: :rotfl:

  • I know I already posted the article regarding Younis missing the series, but this article suggests there is a possiblity Shoaib might be coming to Pakistan for the test series as PCB wants a strike bowler in the side and Sami is injured. It will be interesting to see what Durham and Shoaib decide. *

**Younis Khan opts out of Bangladesh series **

Wisden CricInfo staff - July 31, 2003

Younis Khan has opted out of Pakistan’s forthcoming series against Bangladesh, because he wants to spend more time with his family. The first Test takes place at Karachi between August 20 and 24, while the second starts three days later at Peshawar.

“Younis Khan requested the PCB Chairman that he may be allowed to skip the first two Tests against Bangladesh because of family commitment,” said a PCB spokesman “His request has been accepted by the PCB Chairman.”

The spokesman added that the PCB sought the availability of 36 cricketers for the forthcoming season. “All the players have made themselves available for the forthcoming domestic international commitments. But that doesn’t mean that those 36 players will be invited for the training camp. It is a routine exercise and the impression given in a section of the press that the selectors have called those 36 players to attend a training camp is incorrect.”

The PCB spokesman refused to reveal the names of 36 players who have been asked to make themselves available, although **Saqlain Mushtaq, who had initially withdrawn his services, now wants to be taken into consideration. **

“The team selected for the first Test will leave for Karachi on the evening of August 16 and train there for the next couple of days to acclimatise itself with the conditions,” said the spokesman. “The selectors had wanted to have the camp at Karachi but had to be content with Lahore because of this week’s heavy rain.”

**There is more confusion in the Pakistani ranks, with the discovery – through media reports –that Mohammad Sami is available for the third Test, as well as the five one-day internationals. “The PCB policy is very clear. He has to undergo fitness tests and has to be cleared by the PCB panel of doctors before he is considered for selection.” **

Sami suffered an ankle injury while playing for Kent in the English County Championship. The selectors are now contemplating including Shoaib Akhtar, who was last month allowed to skip the series against Bangladesh.

**“In the absence of Sami, the selectors believe a strike bowler would be required,” the spokesman said. “And for that, the PCB Cricket Operations department was contacting Durham’s management to seek Shoaib’s fitness and availability.” **

This is seriously turning into a joke!

You just can't have players coming in and leaving whenever they please. Personal problems of a domestic nature and a really deserved rest are fine. Anything else just won't do.

Once you're in, you're in, and you're expected to give it your all. Some players are guilty of taking more breaks than they should. In this case, if you want back in after requesting some 'rest' you better have some damn good recent performances and passed fitness tests to back your claim to return. Don't just expect to walk in after your mini-holiday or financially-driven county stint (when ur country needed you more).

I think Younis Khan has a valid case though. He's been a dedicated part of the squad and is always known to give his all. His injuries have also been minimal. Cases like his are the exceptions that should be made to the rules. Not just every 2-match wonder boy.

**Shoaib set for Pakistan return **

**Pakistan have asked Durham to release fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar early from his contract so he can play in this month’s Test series against Bangladesh. **

Shoaib was originally excused from the home series but an ankle injury to Mohammad Sami has forced the Pakistan Cricket Board to act.

He had signed a contract with Durham until the end of the county season but will now need to return to Pakistan by 17 August.

**His last game will be a Championship match against Glamorgan, starting 13 August. **

A PCB spokesman said: “Due to the injury to Sami the selectors now want Shoaib for the series.”

A Durham spokesman said the county had no option but to let Shoaib go.

**The spokesman told the BBC Sport website: "We will be disappointed to see Shoaib go because he has made a big impact on and off the field at Durham.

“There is no problem about us releasing him from his contract early and it looks as though the County match against Glamorgan will be his last.”

*Off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has also been asked to get an early release from Surrey and be available for the Bangladesh series. ***

The first of three Tests starts in Karachi on 20 August.

Ab Ho gayee Bangali Bandhu ki Chutti :) anyways Good step by PCB.

Diablo, are you talking about Shoaib or someone else.
If shoaib then I disagree, Shoaib made himself unavailabe but PCB asked him to comeback since Sami is gone.

here is what happend the last time Pakistan played test match in Pakistan

exactly. I was thinking about PAk's WC campaign recently and if you notice we never fielded the same team for two consecutive series in the leadup to the Cup. We had seniors coming and going - Shobby A taking time off to play for Lashings and what not. And when the big Cup came up I personally thought that the team will be at its best since all the stars were back but they were rusty.

I don't know maybe I'm just making stuff up but IMO, playing one team through thick and thin is very important. I mean look at Australia - we don't see any Aussies "opting" out of a home series. And here we have every aunga bonga saying that he's not going to play. In fact if I recall correctly there was some talk of Australia playing some fringe players against Bangla and Allan Border said that the established players would not have any of that since they were professionals and did not want to sit out if they were performing.

The only guy who should be rested (if at all) is Youhana because he seems to be mentally exhausted.

Inzi speaks out!

Inzamam eyes return

Pakistan veteran Inzamam-ul-Haq hopes to banish bad memories of the 2003 World Cup by returning to international cricket.

The 33-year-old batsmen was a major disappointment at the one-day tournament, managing just 19 runs in six games as his team crashed out in the first round.

**“World Cup 2003 was the worst phase in my career but that is now behind me and I am doing all-out efforts to get my place in the team back and further my career,” he said on Sunday. **

Inzamam was one of eight senior players dumped by Pakistan cricket authorities earlier this year.

But the unavailability of Younis Khan, who has opted out of the first two Tests against Bangladesh this month, strengthens his case for a return.

**“Since the World Cup was a major tournament everyone was disappointed with the team’s performance and especially with my batting but I assure my return will make them forget everything,” said Inzamam.

“I want to reach 10,000 runs and in this second phase of my career I will try to transfer my experience and guile to youngsters.” **

Pakistan host Bangladesh for three Tests and five one-dayers before playing a series against South Africa.

Inzamam has scored 6,214 runs at Test level and 8,957 runs in 290 one-day internationals.

Hopefully Inzi will come back and regain his old form back.

Inzamam back!

Pakistan recall Inzamam

Pakistan selectors have recalled batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq to their squad for this month’s Test series against Bangladesh.

Inzamam had been a prolific batsman but his form suffered terribly during the World Cup and he has not played since.

But now the 33-year-old has a chance to prove himself once more and has been included in a squad of 20 “probables” for the three-Test series.

Chief selector Aamer Sohail said: **“We had never dropped Inzi after the World Cup. We were just giving him a break from the game so that he could get over his fatigue and come back stronger. He should bring stability to the Pakistan middle order given his experience and class.” **

Inzamam has scored 6,214 runs in 85 Tests and 8,957 runs in 290 one-day internationals.

But at the World Cup, he managed just 19 runs in six innings.

Inzamam said: “It is a big relief to be back in the Pakistan squad. Hopefully I will get over the World Cup nightmare in the coming series.”

The burly right-hander said he was hoping to continue playing for Pakistan for at least another two to three years.

**“I don’t think 10,000 runs in Tests and one-day internationals is an impossible task,” he added. **

Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar will also be available after being released by his county Durham on a special request from the Pakistan cricket board.

Off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq was not considered for the series at his own request, although his English county Surrey had agreed to release him, Sohail said.

**The squad will go into a training camp in Lahore from 9-16 August, before the start of the first of the three Tests on 20 August in Karachi. **

  • Squad: Muhammad Hafeez, Taufiq Umar, Yasir Hameed, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousaf Youhana, Misbahul Haq, Farhan Adil, Hasan Reza, Rashid Latif (captain), Shoaib Malik, Abdul Razzaq, Umer Gul, Shoaib Akhtar, Shabbir Ahmed, Muhammad Khalil, Najaf Shah, Danish Kaneria, Abdul Sattar, Kamran Akmal, Jaffer Nazir.

No Saqi?

^^
