Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

**Lal Masjid standoff: Operation strategy altered **
Jul 9, 2007

ISLAMABAD: The potential operation against Lal Maasjid management has been deferred in the light of intelligence received from the surveillance aircraft, sources said Monday morning.

According to reports, the strategy against Lal Masjid people has been altered keeping in view the information sent from the aircraft. The possible operation, which was to be carried out today against Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa management, has been postponed.

Earlier, there have been reports that the decisive operation against Lal Msjid management could any moment be unleashed at night between Sunday and Monday. On the fourth consecutive day, Fajr azan could not be heard from Lal Masjid.

According to the latest reports, the surveillance pilotless aircraft flew over Lal Masjid around 2:40 am. The plane stayed in air over Lal Masjid for more than two hours. Likes of planes are called unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and are used for monitoring and taking photographs. The plane has very light engine, accordingly it can fly with minimal sound. The surveillance aircraft takes pictures from infrared through global positioning system. The similar plane was used by USA to spy on Osama bin Laden.

The plane recorded the images of people present at Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa and their movements. The official kept on reviewing the images received from the plane in control room. In light of the received information, new strategy against Lal Masjid people has been adopted.

According to sources, USA gave the aircraft equipped with the latest system to Pakistan to contain the terrorist activities. This pilotless plane is called predator capable of taking direct images and sounds from the target in the darkness.

Three years back, Pakistani air force gunned down the similar Indian pilotless aircraft in Kot Radhakishan area of Kasur.

Geo

It’s a surprise to me that the US would give this beast to Pakistan. Also, apparently Pakistan has had them for years, used in operations in Waziristan.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

Its sad , we haven't built one ourselves. If USa gave this to Pak then Pak CANNOT reverse engineer it (in the agreement and enforced by USA). Hence, Pak should look to develop it itself.
India's was shot down says india developed it already?

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

That is such bull**** that the article gives. I don't think even Israel has received the Predator [according to my reports] and you think US will give it to Pakistan when it passes along information to China. Heck, a hoopla was made about the f16s until factories were shutting down in texas etc. and US Congress will allow sale of top secret stuff to a country "brinking on the verge of talibanization" [read the US papers].

For those who are going to come with the nonNATO ally bs, DON'T!!! Pakistan was part of SEATO / CENTO and it was the peak of the Soviet Union BUT US still cut off the supplies in both 65 and 71 war.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

The one that was apparently shot down by our f16 in the standoff was made in israel NOT india!

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

Pakistan does make UAVs such as Baaz and Ababeel. Also Pakistan’s Integrated Dynamics company exports UAVs to the US.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

so pak made the predator which it exported to the US, and then the US loaned it to Pak for aapreshan silence-mullahs. wow!

in other news, the indian UAV shot down in kasur later turned out to be nawaz sharif's chaddi flying in the wind.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

As the following pic shows, various Pakistani UAVs are alot smaller than the Predator. On top of this, Pakistan has also imported UAVs from Italy. What I mean is different UAVs have different capabilities.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

i see. lots of pakistani UAVs take off on the first day of spring in lahore, i hear.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

Gawd it says USED a.... and some go on about acquiring it. Learn to read ffs.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

:rotfl:

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

But Predator is a UCAV which I doubt that Pakistan has the capability to make right now.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

Every time a UCAV takes off, it doesn't mean it has to launch a Hellfire missile. They are primarily used for reconnaissance missions.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

We are talking capability and Pakistan doesn’t have that capability! :halo: Plus, Pakistani UAVs don’t have the same resolution that american or israeli UAVs do. The most probable scenario is that Pakistan asked for assistance from the US and US sent the Predator which was remote controlled by the US…

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

if you want a UCAV well attach a grenade, and pull the string to deploy. Not exactly rocket science.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

What are you talking about? US gave these UCAVs to the Pakistani military in 2004 for operations in Waziristan. Just because they haven’t announced it, it doesn’t mean Pakistan can’t possibly have them.

There has been a steady and continuous flow of high-tech small arms coming to Pakistan since 2002. If they announce all that, Hindustan will start jumping up and down.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

When they didn’t announce it, then how do you know?..you work for pak army or US army?..and when they give something like ‘predator’ and we dont complain about it?..we will certainly protest. it’s all deplomacy…sab chalega.:snooty:

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

Any link to prove your point? Or is it one of those pakistanidefence forum "my daddy is a colonel in the army and my mammu works for ISI" type of story ;)

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

wow impressive Karachi has UAV. How are they operated and how much do they cost? I want one!

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

Pakistan produces dozens of different types of UAV's, and has even exported to the US.

The only reason why Pakistan imports UAV's from other countries is for R&D (reverse-engineering or learning).
Pakistan has excelled a lot in this field. Take a look at the Babur (500km ranged cruise-missile) - you can call it a super-UAV, because thats what it is.

Re: Pakistan uses Predator drones in Operation Silence

So this ‘babur’ now is going to be used for recon missions over bhindia..

Wah jee wah, Pakistan is now a superr islamucc superpower! :aejaz:
