Fast bowlers Mohammad Irfan and Ehsan Adil are among five players who have been called up to the Pakistan Test squad for the tour of South Africa, which begins at the end of the month. Batsmen Nasir Jamshed and Haris Sohail, and wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed were the other inclusions who were not on the Test tour of Sri Lanka in June and July 2012.
The players left out were wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal, fast bowlers Aizaz Cheema and Mohammad Sami, batsman Mohammad Ayub and Afaq Raheem.
Irfan and Jamshed performed impressively in the ODI series in India. Irfan made an impact because of his height, using his seven-foot frame to generate pace and bounce, Jamshed scored two hundreds in three matches and was the Player of the Series. Haris Sohail was part of the ODI squad to India but did not get a game.
Adil was part of Pakistan’s Under-19 team at the 2012 World Cup Australia, where they made the quarterfinals. Sarfraz last played a Test for Pakistan in 2010, in Hobart. His last ODI was in Colombo in June 2012.
Pakistan play three Tests in South Africa, in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Centurion. The first Test begins on February 1.

Test squad: **Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Mohammad Hafeez, Nasir Jamshed, Azhar Ali, Umar Gul, Asad Shafiq, Younis Khan, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Ehsan Adil, Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, Haris Sohail, Faisal Iqbal, Taufeeq Umar, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk).

Faisal Iqbal :smack: the one parchi in the squad. **I would have picked Umar Akmal instead despite his lack of temperament. He might have thrived on those fast and bouncy South African pitches

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

I dun know why Rehman is selected and Faisal

We cant go with two spinners against SA ............

Umar Akmal averages around 45 in overseas test matches something Azhar Asad and Even Misbah doesnt do

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

I don't think Pak would play two spinners against SA. But you do need a back-up spinner in the squad

The only questionable selection is Faisal Iqbal. If not UA then they should have gone for Yousuf for his experience

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Seriously bro get over Yousuf he is the biggest drama queen Pakistan ever produced

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Does this mean that Hasan Raza is still injured?

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Ajju got his wish

Akmal-free squad :D

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

horses for courses

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Probably YES

But I think at the moment they are considering him for limited overs formats only (probably because he cannot bat)

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

???

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

We cant afford three spinners in a test squad when we are going to SA

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

The selection of Faisal Iqbal is a joke

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

He will be carrying drinks on the tour anyway.

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

But has Adnan (although I feel that there is little between Adnan and Sarfraz as far as keeping and batting potential are concerned) been hard done by the selectors? He has been safe behind the stumps and has also contributed with the bat. scored 61 in the 1st test against England last year and 35* and 59 in his last test against SLA

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Wht about ODI ?

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

I think Adnan Akmal should have been there if he is fit. Faisal Iqbal should not have been picked. Otherwise a decent squad.

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Tariq Saeed ‏@TariqSaeed13](https://twitter.com/TariqSaeed13)
Joke of the year ! Adnan Akmal is Captaining Lahore in QA Trophy match at LCCA ground and our TV channels are saying he is unfit !

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Trust me Im sure that Sarfraz was selected only cz of Iqbal Qasim supports players from karachi more ..............Dropping Adnan doesnt makes sense he was performing brilliant with the gloves

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

yousaf is only good for reading wazzeffas and holly books in mosques....there is absolutely no way he can come back to the international cricket and that too against SA after staying away from cricket for so long...he will be useless...he was useless on bouncy pitches anyway...what can he do now
but more importantly he made a choice for a tableeghi life...he started going for weeks for dars with tableeghi parties....missing regular exercise and practice sessions....cricket became his 3rd or 4th or no priority..now live with it molvi sahib!

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Yeah is much better than Abdur Rehman and also free of any controversial news.

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Apparently, Dav Whatmore wanted Adnan Akmal

Adnan Akmal Dropped Despite Being Fully Fit
Adnan Akmal's omission from the Test squad named by Pakistan on Friday came as a major surprise to many, particularly as the wicket-keeper batsman has been in impressive form in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy for Lahore Ravi.

Akmal, who has been captaining Lahore Ravi since recovering from a hairline fracture of his left ring finger, has posted scores of 86, 86 not out and 71 in his last three innings in domestic cricket and was expected to be picked by Iqbal Qasim and his selection committee. However the selectors delivered a surprise in naming Sarfraz Ahmed as his replacement.

Reports today indicated that Akmal, who has been an integral part of the Pakistan Test squad that has produced impressive results over the last 12 months, was excluded from the squad for South Africa due to injury. However PakPassion.net can confirm Akmal is not injured and is included in Sui Gas' squad for the President's Trophy final which commences on 14th January in Karachi.

A source close to Adnan Akmal stated "Adnan played today and there is no injury. He will be travelling to Karachi for the President's Trophy final and anyone can undertake a fitness test on him. He's fully fit, has recovered from the finger injury and has played some long innings recently. Only the selectors can explain why he has been omitted. It's thoroughly mystifying."

Akmal has been replaced by Sarfraz Ahmed for the 3-Test series in South Africa, with the first match due to commence on 1st February in Johannesburg.
Not sure how the hell it's possible to select a squad without the approval of the captain or coach since they are the first people to face the flak if a team does badly!
PakPassion can confirm that Misbah-ul-Haq and Dav Whatmore were not fully consulted over the final list of names for the 16-man Test squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa.

*Whilst Whatmore and Misbah were initially asked for their opinions on the players they thought should be selected, the squad was subsequently announced without either the Test captain or the coach giving their verdict to the selection committee over the final list of names.
*

The Captain and Coach's choices were expected to form the basis of the squad announced on Friday, but neither were included in the final deliberations before the PCB announced the names of the squad. Whilst the majority of players were agreed by the coach and the selectors, there were disagreements over a couple of the choices.

The matter was further complicated when coach Dav Whatmore walked out of the initial meeting after disagreeing with one of the choices the selectors were pushing for.
