Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

News is that even Misbah is unhappy with the selection

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Some posters on other forums keep yapping on about Sarfraz’s higher FC (First Class) average of 42 (Adnan averages 24 in FC) but from what I have seen in international games, Adnan is a better keeper and batsman. Sarfraz seems a nervous wreck at the crease and he didn’t always pick Ajmal in the ODIs which is a bit of a concern.

My point is once a player has played international cricket judge him by his international stats only.
FC average has absolutely no meaning here. Adnan has been very solid behind the stumps in tests and he has been decent if not brilliant with the bat over the last year or so

55 dismissals in 16 tests and batting average of 27.5 is a pretty decent record

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

I don't have any strong views either way but lets see how Sarfraz performs. Adnan's international career to date has been satisfactory.

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Other notable omissions are Wahab Riaz and Fawad Alam

But good to see that the selectors have gone for youth.

Ehsan Adil is express pace Ehsan Adil | Pakistan Cricket | Cricket Players and Officials | ESPN Cricinfo Will he be the next Waqar I wonder?

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Adnan was my preferred choice

However now that Sarfraz has been picked, I think we should support him. Maybe he's a better batsman in the longer format than in LOIs (although batted brilliantly in Asia Cup Final)

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Eshan adil is good but not express pace

Yes heard alot of Harris lets see how he goes

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

He is listed as 'fast bowler' so lets see.

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Ehsan Adil - 2nd bowler in the clip

He looks goods..nice height, simple action, hits the seam hard..round arm like Aqib

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

Philander returns for Pakistan series [SA Test Squad announced]

VERNON PHILANDER makes his expected return to the Proteas Castle Lager squad for the first Sunfoil Test match against Pakistan to be played at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, from Friday, February 1 to Tuesday, February 5.

The second and third Sunfoil Test matches follow at Sahara Park Newlands and SuperSport Park, Centurion.

“We have given a full vote of confidence to the squad of 13 that did duty in the recent Sunfoil Series against New Zealand,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection convener Andrew Hudson. “Rory Kleinveldt and Jacques Rudolph will again provide the bowling and batting cover if necessary. At the moment there are no injury concerns.

“We are very happy with the job that Rory did against New Zealand when Vernon dropped out while Jacques provides us with a lot of experience as the cover batsman. We have quite a few inexperienced batsmen in our top order and we feel that a bit of extra experience will be useful should the need arise.”

Proteas Castle Lager Test squad: Graeme Smith (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, capt), Hashim Amla (Sunfoil Dolphins), AB de Villiers (Nashua Titans), Faf du Plessis (Nashua Titans), Dean Elgar (Chevrolet Knights), Jacques Kallis (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras), Rory Kleinveldt (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras), Morne Morkel (Nashua Titans), Alviro Petersen (bizhub Highveld Lions), Robbie Peterson (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras), Vernon Philander (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras), Jacques Rudolph (Nashua Titans), Dale Steyn (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras)

**Geoff Boycott: ‘I put my money on South Africa’
**
Boycs is right. It is South African seamers v shaky Pakistan batting not the other way around. The last time Pakistan won a test series outside of Asia was way back in 1996 (beat England 2-0)

Saffers are favorites to win the test series. Remember the series is not being played in UAE where our chances against them would be 50-50. Saying the pitches in SA are a little bit quicker than Pakistan is a bit of an understatement by Boycott. If the batsmen perform (300+ is a must), we can be competitive in the test series but that’s a big IF

Bowl at Boycs : ‘I put my money on South Africa’ | Cricket Features | South Africa v Pakistan | ESPN Cricinfo

ST: Coming to Geoffrey’s favourite question for this show. It’s from Andrew Rowe in the UK and Rizwan Bashir in Pakistan. Both of them want Geoffrey to take his pick for a big series coming up, between South Africa and Pakistan in South Africa. They also want to know if you think Pakistan’s bowlers, the likes of Junaid Khan and Saeed Ajmal, can hold back South Africa’s run machine of Amla, Kallis, and Smith.

GB: Good question, but I would turn it around a different way, Andrew and Rizwan. Can Pakistan’s batsmen hold back the seamers of South Africa? That’s where the crux is. It’s not Pakistan’s bowlers against the South African batsmen. The South African batsmen are good - there’s Kallis, Amla, Smith, there’s AB de Villiers, who is a fabulous player as well. But it is not that that would worry me if I was Pakistan. Can Pakistan’s batsmen bat against the best seam-bowling attack in the world? They are definitely going to come at Pakistan really strong. They have also got reserves. Morne Morkel is bowling well, Dale Steyn is the best bowler in the world, and the guy who is injured at the moment picks up wickets every time he bowls, doesn’t he?

ST: Philander.

GB: Philander. Where the hell has he been all our lives? He just gets hold of the ball, it just goes a little bit out, a little bit in, it swings a little bit, he nips it around at pace, gives very few balls to hit. Pakistan have got to get runs. That’s the key - the South African seamers against the Pakistan batting. Not the other way around. South Africa’s bowling is the best in the world, by far. [Philander] would be a cracker-jack bowler in any era, any period, any team, let me tell you. The other two aren’t behind - they are very good indeed, so I put my money on South Africa.

I like Pakistan. I like the fact that whatever trouble they have, whatever happens, if they are fighting among themselves, or politicking, or what have you, switching captains, there are always some young kids with talent who come along. Unknowns come along and play well. But the fact is, when you are playing with the best seam-bowling side in the world, that’s going to be tough. Especially in their own backyard. The pitches here are a little bit quicker than in Pakistan. Remember, Pakistan pitches are a bit like Indian pitches. They don’t turn much in Pakistan. But in terms of the pace, or lack of pace, or the lower bounce, that’s what they have in Pakistan. It’s easier to play the seamers and the newness goes off the ball quicker.

**The newness does not go off the ball so easy in South Africa. **And if you play in Cape Town or Johannesburg, the ball whistles through. You’ve got a Test at Cape Town, for sure. The ball carries, it carries higher, and it demands better footwork, particularly on the back foot, and this is what will test the Pakistan batsmen more than ever.

Watch out for silent assassin Vernon Philander, he has taken 74 wickets in 13 tests at 17.4 with SR of 36.1. He’s a SEAM bowler (it’s about seam position and movement off the pitch), rather than a swing bowler

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in

slight correction: it is Raza Hasan

Hasan Raza was a batsman who made his debut at 14 or 15 (PD can correct that) in the 90s and had moderate success at test level

Re: Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013 (Test squad announced) Irfan, Ehsan Adil in
