Excellent move!
I wonder what the Nazim (Mayor) of Kabul - Karzai will say to this?

Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan
Now Kharzai has issues with the fence, aray bhai, yeh kuch karta bhi hai yah chronic bytching he iski zindagi hai.
Pakistan mining and fencing border… Afghan hypocracy at display again…
Pakistan has decided to fence and mine parts of the border on its side to prevent the crossing of militants and terrorists in to Afghanistan…
Afghani govt on its part have denounced this move saying its not needed and that Pakistan and Afghanistan showed tackle the problem in a real problem…
Not that they know what this means… If Karzai is anything to go by, I suppose the idea of cooperation by Afghanistan is them sitting in their bunkers whinning at the rest of the world to make Pakistan do “more!”
They say this will seperate the closely linked tribal groups, but then on the other hand they dont want people from these same tribal areas to cross over into Afghanistan… Afghan govt lives in its own world!
Pakistan plans border minefield
Kabul accuses Islamabad of harbouring Taleban fighters
Pakistan plans to fence and plant landmines along sections of its border with Afghanistan to stop militants, a foreign office official has said.
Speaking at a press conference, Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan said the move would stop “militant activity from Pakistan inside Afghanistan”.
Afghanistan rejected the plan saying both countries need to tackle “terrorists in a real manner”.
It has long blamed Pakistan for cross-border attacks by the Taleban.
Islamabad denies the charges.
‘Not practical’
“In keeping with our policy to prevent any militant activity from Pakistan inside Afghanistan, the Pakistan army has been tasked to work out modalities for selectively fencing and mining the Pakistan-Afghanistan border,” Mr Khan said.
Mr Khan also said that as the fencing and mines would be on the Pakistani side of the 2,430km (1,510-mile) border, an agreement with their neighbour was not needed.
Additional paramilitary troops will also be deployed along the border, he said.
Nato troops in Afghanistan have been targeted by the Taleban
Criticising the plan, Khaleeq Ahmed, a spokesman for the Afghan President Hamid Karzai, said: "We must confront terrorists in a real manner.
“Fencing or mining the border is neither helpful nor practical. That’s why we are against it. The border is not where the problem lies,” he said.
Afghanistan has rejected Pakistan’s previous offers to fence the border saying it would divide tribal populations who have strong family ties across the boundary.
Former sponsor
Afghanistan says Taleban leaders plot some of their attacks on Afghan targets from Pakistani soil.
Pakistan was once the Taleban’s main sponsor, but after the September 2001 attacks in the US, Islamabad joined the US-led “war on terror”.
The Pakistani government denies it continues to support the militants or that it could do more to stop them crossing the porous border, and points to the deaths of hundreds of Pakistani troops fighting pro-Taleban militants in the country’s tribal areas.
The authorities say that more than 3,500 people have been killed in Afghanistan in 2006 - the bloodiest year since US-led troops ousted the Taleban five years ago.

Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan
okay here is a question that has ben bothering me for sometime.
what is it that kharzai wears, I mean I have never seen any afghan wear that, although I must say that atleast from an afghan leadership images, I only have seen muhaideen and taleban, so dunno if this was some kinda thing that politicians before him wore.
that cloak and topi with a suit, makes him look like a candidate for a remake on queer eye.
Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan
mining is the only option considering the situation and the terrain... So long as the tribals are told exactly which areas these mines are planted so they can stear clear of them.
Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan
everyone should cros from designated checkpoints, no need to tell anyone else where to steer clear from steer clear of everything except the designated crossings and checkpoints,
Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan
Looks like the afghan plan backfired on them! They were hoping Pakistan would come with some other solution other than fencing the border. Remeber that afghanistan has never accepted durnand line as an international border, and this fencing will basically force Afghanistan to accept it.

And that right there is a slap to karzai's face. Anyways I think the border is a postive step as it will not only help curb terrorism but also lower the amount of drugs, and other harmfull things from coming into Pakistan

It always looks like that cloak is going to fall off every time he moves. His dress sense is as slippery and pathetic as his outbursts against Pakistan. If he has any doubt on our plans for mining the border, maybe we he could walk over it and test it for us. ![]()
Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan
lol silly you realize you totally keema-fied uncle khar-damagh-zai in this thread!
Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan
Mr Karzai should be more careful about what he wishes for!

Paradigm shift in Pakistan?
PERHAPS in addition to criticising Pakistan’s fence-and-mines-plan along the Afghan border, the UN and the Afghan government should have come forward with constructive ideas to choke the alleged flow of insurgents across the border. Since it’s the government in Kabul that points at the incursions as the basis of the biggest threat to its stability, its reaction that rather than the proposed approach, both countries should tackle “terrorists in a real manner” is that much more difficult to understand, especially since it stops short of elaborating on a viable alternative. It is well-known that Afghanistan is littered with mines owing to the two decades or so of relentless war that ravaged it, so apprehensions about more mines at the borders can be understood. But to question the fence as a possible barrier between tribal populations with strong ties fails to drive the point home. Especially since Kabul blames the same ‘links’ for facilitating insurgents. It seems the Karzai administration is suddenly more concerned about preserving the strong tribal ties than stopping so-called terrorists crossing into Afghanistan — or it would have proposed a more viable solution along with the criticism.
It deserves appreciating that despite the continuous not-doing-enough charge, General Musharraf has perhaps the best record so far of the war-on-terror leaders. His jirga deal with the tribals and stress on a new approach of negotiating with the Taleban show he realises only too well the dangers of sticking with the current military-option-only policy — something that is lost on both the West and Kabul. Should the trend not begin to change now, all parties concerned stand to lose much more than just face stemming from policy-reversal. It is also important to address accusations regarding the involvement of Pakistan’s security agency ISI in the Afghan scenario, something which both Washington and Kabul should be the last to question. Facts are facts and need voicing at least as many times as criticism that misses them. The void that the Pakistani establishment filled was created by America’s negligent departure from the region and the subsequent Afghan infighting of which the present government set-up was very much part. Cruel as the Taleban were, they did put an end to war and destruction that the present leaders did not care to then and cannot seem to now. Rather than lean on Pakistan that has had the worst of both worlds — in dealing with Afghan refugees and sacrificing its own personnel for the terror-cause — the international coalition should learn from its experiences in the region. It’s high-time for the West to change gears in Afghanistan. Failing that, they should excuse Islamabad for crying de ja vu in the first place (they’ve seen a superpower fall here before) and we-told-you-so in the second.
Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan (merged)
Karzai is such a dog, now that Pakistan has taken serious action after his baseless accusations he's complaining about this, what a joker!!!
He is a dog, an incompetent dog, blaiming Pakistan for his own weaknesses as are a lot of his countrymen, his whole family with millions of other Afghans have been allowed to leech of our poor country for so long yet they still have nothing good to say about us and hate us.
They should all be kicked out of Pakistan so that they can go to their beloved India...
If some of them want to stay in Pakistan they should call themselves Pakistani and speak Urdu not Dari or any other siht.

Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan (merged)
From the article:
“Thousands of tribal Pashtun families live on either side of the border and Afghan officials say fencing the area off would unfairly divide the tight knit and fiercely independent communities.”
He meant to say the alleged Al-CIAda members will not be able to cross the borders, resulting in no chance of whining for Kuttazai which would mean no ‘additional’ aid …

Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan
that cloak and topi with a suit, makes him look like a candidate for a remake on queer eye.
The cloak is a coat called chap-paan. I have seen Afghans wearing these in mosque as well; its worn by the family/tribal elders or what we call in our culture *buzurg hazraat -- da'da aba, naanaa aba, taya abba *.
These coats are also made in northern areas of Pakistan, Chitral/Gilgit/Hunza. I have seen ones that are made of wool (hand-made) and they are very warm.
I like these coats/cloaks. I wish they weren't associated with Mr. Karzai.
Re: Pakistan to Fence and Mine Border with Afghanistan (merged)
but do afghans wear that cloak with suits? I mean it is like someone in pakistan wearing a sherwanu over a suit..
