Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Pakistan is buying 15 AH-1Z Viper helicopters, Hellfire missiles to launch from them, as well as engines, computers, radar and targeting technology, navigation and communications systems.

The AH-1Z Viper is the most recently updated version of the AH-1 Cobra Pakistan already operates. It’s the standard helicopter of the US Marine Corps and it is offered by Bell as a direct competitor to the Boeing AH-64 Apache.

Pakistan had been evaluating a number of European and Chinese helicopter gunships; I guess the AH-1Z won out because we are already extensively experienced in operating and logistics for this particular family of helicopters

To do what? Use them in Yemen?

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Defense…

Pakistan is six biggest country in world. Pakistan has all right to secure its border and airspace.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Pakistanis like Saudis and others have once again fallen for the traps set to buy weapons from US which will only help US economy. They just got Chinese helicopters and now this, what are they going to do with so much arsenal? Nobody is coming to attack us right now. Just fix the internal sh!t. Feed the poor, provide them clean water, education and other basic needs. Get your priorities straight.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Won’t arrive in time for that, they will be paid for and delivered over the course of 5 and a half years.

This is more to do with our current gunships being 30 years old. The helocopters are physically reaching the end of their lifespan and won’t be safe to fly soon.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

I’ll be ok with it if Saudis are paying for it for our support in Yemen. $1Billion is a lot of money.

It’s been reported that the Pakistan government has approved a deal concerning the purchase of 8 submarines worth around 5 billion US dollars from China, Financial Times reported.
It will be the largest military trade contract between the two countries and also China’s largest arms exporting deal if successfully implemented.
These submarines will fill in a strategic gap for the Pakistan military, according to a former Pakistan high-profile navy commander.
According to reports, Pakistan has always been the biggest buyer of Chinese exported weapons. Over the past 5 years, over 40 percent of the total amount of weapons China exported were sold to Pakistan.
During that time, the exporting of Chinese weapons increased by 143 percent which made China the third largest weapon exporting country in the world, behind only the US and Russia.

****ISLAMABAD/BEIJING: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved a deal “years in the making” to buy eight submarines from China, a government official said on Thursday, in what could be one of China’s largest overseas weapons sales once it is signed.
The official, who was present at Tuesday’s meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence which was briefed by the Navy, said the deal to buy the diesel-electric submarines would likely be signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping when he visits, “but that is still not final”.
Xi was due to travel to Pakistan this month, the government in Islamabad has said. China has said Xi would visit this year, but given no timeframe.

China and Pakistan call each other “all-weather friends” and their close ties have been underpinned by long-standing wariness of their common neighbour and rival, India, and a desire to hedge against US influence across the region.
“The prime minister has approved buying eight submarines from China and these would be used to bolster Pakistan’s strength,” the official, who asked not to be identified, told Reuters.
He added that “last-minute homework is pending”. “Some officials are travelling to China even today. Work is ongoing,” he said.
“This deal is years in the making.” He said Pakistan was looking at S20 and Yuan class diesel-electric vessels. A former senior Pakistan navy officer with knowledge of the negotiations told the Financial Times the contract could be
worth $4 billion to $5 billion.
Asked about the submarines, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said China and Pakistan were friendly neighbours and that the two sides had normal military exchanges.
“I can tell you, relevant cooperation does not violate international convention and accords with China’s three principles on military exports,” she told a daily news briefing.
China is Pakistan’s top supplier of weapons, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), which tracks global arms sales, selling 51% of the weapons Islamabad imported in 2010-2014.
China has also surpassed Germany to become the world’s third largest arms exporter, SIPRI said in a report last month. Little is known about China’s arms exports because the country does not publish data on such sales.
The official also said that Pakistan had been in talks with France to buy new submarines, but the proposal was declined by the French.
A top US Navy admiral said in February that, though they were technologically inferior, China’s submarine fleet now outnumbered that of the United States.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

The article says what happened. France wasn’t willing to sell more submarines at the price Pakistan wanted to pay.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

As I said in other thread that even though Pak should not get involved in this conflict but there are things to gain for Pak in it now.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Where would this billion dollar come from? Imf?

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Corruption/Kickbacks is the reason why despite knowing that amerika can never be trusted the a$$wipes are still buying from uncle. Well who cares about next round of Pressler amendments or sanctions. Most defense deals come with kick backs and with a country like Pak you can draw your own conclusions.

11 French engineers who were working on Agosta subs in Pak were killed because of kick backs.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Here… borrow a billion dollars from me and buy my toys with it.

win-win

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

I don’t get why Pakistan can’t make its own weapons.

Pakistan IS making its own weapons, did you not watch recent exhibition?

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA
