Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Clearly not, because Pakistan is paying a lot of $$ that should be going into it’s economy to create jobs, in buying a bunch of toys to keep up with an arms race.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

I suppose it’s time-to-market. Pakistan can invest in the R&D to get a proper aerospace, advanced materials and electronics infrastructure in place, but that would take time. The perceived need is now. In the long run, $1B is cheap vs. trying to build from scratch.

Perhaps there’s a middle road somewhere, and Pakistan has invested and become self sufficient in some areas…like nuclear arms development.

The biggest problem of not having the know-how in-house, though, is you’re always at the mercy of how far world powers are willing to support you in a time of war. Pakistan has tried to make contacts in secondary markets for access to their assets and parts in times of war, (such as Turkey and Saudia), but we don’t know for certain how reliable that is. It also has the nasty effect of pressuring Pakistan to reciprocate in some kind…like fighting a God-forsaken war in Yemen.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Saudis can’t even maintain their own aircraft and here they will give Pakistan spares? :rotfl:

Pakistan does work with turkey like on f16 refurb, but that is only for times when US relationship is good. Turkey was pitching its helicopters, but I guess the price must have been too high. Experience is subjective as Pakistan is also flying or will the Z-9s from China.

We won’t be getting us technology, as India also found out, so it would learning and producing with China and adding competitive avionics. To truly move into industrialized age, you need seriousness and get rid of Taliban / nationalist groups and run Pakistan on merit. It would hurt real bad in the short run, as bums would be sidelined in govt jobs, but that is the only way forward!

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Because Pakistan doesn’t have the need to order the amount of hi-tech weapons that would be needs to offset the cost of developing them. You need either a huge internal military, or large export orders, to make it financially viable. Every past Pakistani effort to export our most sophisticated domestically produced weapon systems has failed. The only orders we do get are for relatively simple things like guided missiles and small arms.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

I’m not aware of a maintenance crisis for Saudi equipment…though a lack of (capable and competent) manpower may exists. Saudi Arabia is an important mention, as the theory goes that in the case of war (presumably with India), SA will lend PAK mid-air refueling craft, AWACS, possibly F-15s, etc.

Taliban and militancy is one threat, though talk of such advanced equipment for counter-insurgency is a bit high brow. It would be foolhardy to also not consider either belligerent neighbors, or industrialized nations manufacturing a cause for war, as other serious threats. We saw how Iraq played out.

Depends if their aaqa america allows it.

United States Approve Sales of Military Hardware for Anti-Terrorism

The threats of DAESH continue to linger on in the region. Just today the Bajaur TTP group declared its allegiance to DAESH and so continues with their mission of death and terror. We appreciate the efforts of Pakistani security forces against terrorist organizations in the country. Responding to a question regarding the United States approving Pakistan’s request for arms sales, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said, “The State Department did approve a possible foreign military sale for helicopters and associated equipment, parts, and support for an estimated cost of about $952 million.” “This proposed sale of helicopters and weapons systems will provide Pakistan with military capabilities in support of its counterterrorism operations inside the country,” Ms. Harf added. She also declared that the U.S has very close counterterrorism relationship with Pakistan for very good reasons. “There’s still a serious threat in Pakistan from terrorists who have either attacked the US or American soldiers in Afghanistan, who have tried to plot and plan against the West, including the US,” she said. Harf added that since the remnants of core al Qaeda are mainly in the tribal areas of Pakistan, the US is trying to help the country. “This is in our national security interest to do so,” the US State Department deputy spokesperson said.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Modi and India have decided to nuke pakistan in next few months, in case if you dont know. India will first attack the eastern border with full force and then use nuclear weapons 7th day into war.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

Are you serious? Or is it sarcastic? So that’ll be a piece of cake for them to nuke a nuclear force with no harm to entire region?! :hmmm:

Neither modi nor indians are that stupid.

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

sarcastic…

Re: Pakistan to buy $1bn of Attack helicopters, missiles from USA

I don’t mind Pakistan buying more weapons as long as the purpose of buying these weapons is not merely to be ahead in the arms race or buy weapons that are India specific. Pakistan military should be buying weapons that will help them in this war on terror against the likes of TTP. We definitely need more weapons to help us in the tough terrains of Waziristan, Tirah Valley, Khyber Agency, etc.
