Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
One can not say about any business that they do or do not care about people in the street, but their job is to make money, some companies make it in a responsible way and some dont.
Yes, but look at the history of Emaar and their employees in Dubai. You will see that have a history of abuse with their employees.

KPT Port Tower will NOT be the tallest so the one who said ONE OF THE TALLEST is the correct source.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
Speculation itself is a huge business in Pakistan. Politicians and surveying companies love doing expensive reports on the most outrageous projects. How many surveys has Karachi done on an underground subway? How much have they cost?
They'll spend 3 million dollars on a feasibility study for a hovering amusement park, only to say it makes fiscal sense not to waste money building it. The next government will come in power, bash the previous government for not doing enough about the hovering amusement park, and do another study. Still, same finding - Pakistan isn't ready for hovering bumper carts.
"Oh...oops...our experts say it really isn't worth while. Thank god it was only 6 million dollars instead of 600 million. See, we don't waste money on stupid projects. We do our studies."
Boys and girls, if you want the big bucks - get into surveying. If you want popularity, say you're going to make a billion foot high building in Sialkot.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
a better ROI would be to invest all that $$$ in a new power plant for the metro karachi area, an industrial zone, and mass transportation schemes
THAT in the long run will be much more beneficial for karachi
tall buildings and landmarks are defining images of their respective cities.... but I dont think it would do any good to karachi's image. Maybe a bit of "wah jee wah, zabardast kyaa baat hay etc etc " and then PHUSSSSSS
If you continue to ignore the masses and cater to the whims and wet dreams of the classes... then, I am afraid, history has already started to write a lesson in its book, the lesson it will teach you.......

Why can Pakistanis never accept the fact that this is a PRIVATE COMPANY investing and NOT THE GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN!

Subway System is impossible in Karachi. These people dun even know the underground wiring, cabling, sewrege, water mains web in the city… pooraa karachi khud kar reh jaaye gaa… ask me
Reality check:
Quick Marina project (something like that name): dhaandhliyoN kaa bazaar garam… contractors corruption is on the rise… if it was not for military personell involved, it would have been a disaster. My father literally have to be with the material testing and immediate reporting of any wrong being done… he’s on his toes
100 MGD water supply k-2 plan back in 90’s had the same problem… ask me about it… I have seen the situation with my own two sinful eyes.. The K.G. canal and the corruption… Thanks to the project, I was able to see city of Bhanbhor:love: (Sassi & PanhooN), makli, ThaThaa etc
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
Karachi would be better off with a combination of land and elevated trains rather than subway due to the existing issues AQ has mantioned and due to easier maintenance and risk mgmt.
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
I so long for the day when our major cities will have a mass transit rail system (elevated or underground – I don’t really care). Tall buildings are good to look and all… but providing an efficient commuter infrastructure is really the foundation of a productive nation. It has so many direct and indirect impacts on the economy.
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
It depends on who is investing baba.
I mean some company that wants to build fast food restaurants because that is what it does would not be in a position to build and run clinics and hospitals.
Those needs are seperate and private sector should be encouraged to pursue them as well.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
I know what you mean... I am all for tall buildings and encouraging investment from the private sector.
It's just that I don't see any public/private collaborations to kickstart something like a commuter system where there are gains to be made mutually. Something like a Limited Recourse Financing model can certainly be pursued to enable such initiatives.
If I'm not mistaken, the Bangkok Transit system was fully privately funded.
