Great news
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
I much rather prefer he was dead.
There is a chance he could be freed just like that Mullah who ran the Red Mosque.

This is true, if put in regular court system he will be freed without by SC verdict on some technicality or "lack of evidence" (despite his statements to the media over the years) or enjoy VVIP jail cell at the least.
If kept in army/ISI safehouse, he may also be returned in exchange for some kidnapped soldiers.
Best would be Gitmo for him now. However, it is also good to see he could not become another "martyr".

better in custody of ISI than CIA/Mossad/RAW who will just re-arm him, train him, release him like they did with Baitullah Mehsud who was released from Gitmo. do you even know how espionage works?
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
hes probably been kind of released already. kind of because pakistan sells people like him (or not like him!) to gitmo and other secret torture centers. perhaps hes now in the same cell dr afia inhabitted
vigoratus: baitullah was never in american custody, abdullah was. abdullah came back from the humiliation of gitmo working for cia, mossad or raw? or did he realise pakistan was working for cia, mossad and raw?
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
Yes, you're right. Thanks for correcting me, it wasn't not Baitullah, it was Abdullah Mehsud.
Rest of what you said is he said/she said situation. Many Pakistanis believe TTP to be a product of American/Israeli/Indian nexus.
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
its good that he is being investigated.

I hope "maulvi" omar is sold to the police in pakistan for some great interrogation "techniques". Murderers like him deserve the worst and most painful kind of death in this life and the hereafter.
Are you talkng about he same abdullah who committed suicide? A great muslim he was by not following the basic tenet of Islam!
.... believe TTP to be a product of American/Israeli/Indian nexus.
Yeap. Just like Hamas and Hizbullah are the products of Mosad, CIA, and RAW.
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
Burqa explain to me how one gets money, weapons and ammo in an area like Waziristan, which has not industry, no infrastructure or basic facilities?
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
^^All those madrassas in waziristan region and the weapons are sponsored by arabs and saudis to be specific. There is nothing hidden about it.
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
Logic is not ones best friend when it comes to GS. Firstly even an AK-47 needs to be cleaned and maintained. Lets ignore that for now.
Lets discuss possible transit routes to Waziristan for the smuggling of weapons caches, ammo and whatever else they have.
Nobody smuggles in 1 Ak-47. They smuggle them in by the hundreds. Also if US figures are correct, they have 20,000 men willing to fight in half of FATA. That easily means 30,000 weapons. Ammo to the roof and funding to set up everything.
You are running a military operation for 20,000 troops. I am gonna let you on in a little secret. To handle UNAMID military operations alone in Darfur, we spend on average 3 million dollars a month. And you know what the best part is? We only have 14,000 troops here who bring their own weapons, their own vehicles and their own ammo. TCCs are self-sufficient, and yet the operation in darfur costs 3 million a month only for the military.
How do 20,000 men for a militia get food, water, supplies in Waziristan, which is not a large area.
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
^ cannot compare nakhra of UN forces with that of men who are used to mountains as home, fire guns to celebrate any occasion, can live months in same clothes, don't need bottled water, can survive heat and cold without 'specialized' suiting and so on....
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
UN troops are sent in by TCCs. Troop contributing countries. They hold the same standards as their national armies. Meaning the Nigerians in my sector are piss poor and can't even cock an AK-47. The South Africans are on point and man the Pakistani Eng. Company here puts them all to shame.
And waziristan is not the ****ing Swiss Alps that you need specialized suits.
Accomdations are tents. Large ones housing 40 people. Only officers get private rooms. They run patrols 24/7 like all militaries. Oh yes they have a total of 4 articles of clothing. All their uniforms. Any personal clothing brought is at their own expense.
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
^ why? what? we must face realities. US has no imperial interest in the region, they are nothing but good smaritans and cleaning up our mess. arabs! now we are talking an evil presence because the invested interested in this region of saudis is huge. with the benevolent hand of americans guiding our way, saudis can rest easy and pakistanis will mature into a strong democracy and a stable economy, this is what IMF and WTO and their restrictions and tariffs and pay offs are ensuring in nutshell.
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
Lets clear a few factual mistakes first.
Secondly no country places troops, investment without some interests being served. And they are just not defense orientated. The great game has been played in Afghanistan for the past 200 years. I highly doubt this is all in our good interest. As they say history repeats itself.
Lastly Benevolent hand of the Americans. Wow. You really do not know our history with the Americans. If you have any issues, I can show you statements from Secretary of State Clinton and from the Special Rep Holbroke about how the acknowledge they screwed Pakistan over regularly since the late 80s.
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
^ Do the guys in Waziristan have to pay salaries of guys like you?
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
Military troops are not paid salaries. They are paid MSA. Roughly 3000 US dollars a month. But that does not come under Field mission budgets. Salaries are all paid from a seperate budget. Operation costs are a seperate budget.
Essentially my point is simple. To maintain a fighting force there needs to be a logistics cost. That for 20,000 people is going to be a nightmare. Remember these people do not grown their own food, they do not have any means of income and they certainly don't moon light at the local 7-11.
Just to put it in complete perspective. UNAMID's budget is 2 billion dollars for a year. We have 14,000 military troops. 6000 Police, and roughly 3000 civilian staff. Do the math. A base salary of 3,000 US Dollars for 23,000 people per month will not be covered in 2 billion dollars a year.
To assume these are men of such rigour that they don't need a blanket at night, or food 3 times a day and don't need to restock on ammo after each battle is basically you watch too many Arnold movies or you are a really big fan of Rambo.
Re: Pakistan Taliban spokesman 'held'
^ Again, I am not saying they dont need funding. I am only saying that the cost would be only a fraction of the cost you are thinking about. $3,000 can support a family for years in those areas.
