Justice Rana Bhagwandas, the senior most judge of the Pakistani Supreme Court, today took charge as the acting Chief Justice of the country, becoming the first Hindu to assume the top legal post. 63-year-old Justice Bhagwandas, one of the few Hindu judges in the country, took oath as Chief Justice at a simple ceremony at the Sindh bench of the Supreme Court in Karachi. His appointment as acting Chief Justice came as the incumbent, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, is leaving on a ten-day visit to China. Bhagwandas, known for his hold on the constitutional law, was administered oath by Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad of the apex court.
Several judges and officials of Sindh High court and local government attended the ceremony. Hailing from Karachi, Bhagwandas was one of the few Hindus who occupied the top judicial post in Pakistan. Bhagwandas, who made his way up as sessions judge and judge of the Sindh High Court, joined the Pakistan judicial service in 1967. He has also done masters in Islamic studies. He is the second non-Muslim and first Hindu to assume the top post of the country.
Re: Pakistan Supreme Court acting Chief Justice is a Hindu
I hope he keeps a statue of Krsna in his desk while dispensing justice...well done Bhagwandas, it probably took a lot courage to get to this point in Pakistan
Re: Pakistan Supreme Court acting Chief Justice is a Hindu
All the Indians start thinking hard how to counter this and it must be killing them how come a Hindu is given that big of a postion in PAKISTAN. Instead of welcomeing this they are ^ trying to attack with stupid arguments such as like is he allowed to take oath using Qur'an or Gita. Deep down they can't accpet the fact they can't discuss it as being a good thing by Pakistan so much hatered and they complain Pakistan is bad maybe they need to clean themself first to see the bright side of Pakistan
Re: Pakistan Supreme Court acting Chief Justice is a Hindu
Teaser...don't say "all" Indians. I will always welome a Hindu taking up positions of responsibility in Pakistan or anywhere else, as long as they are able to do their job.
I do find it interesting though that in Pakistan in particular where there is at present a rather intense tussle is going on between groups that want the country to be Islamic versus groups who want the the country to be progressively secular.
If the reason Bhagwandas got this job or he is accepted is his degree in Islamic studies then there's no credit for Pakistan. But if he got to here because of his jurisprudence qualifications (with his Islamic MA definitely being an additional qualification for understanding the majority of the subjects of Pakistan), then it is a good thing worthy of credit.
Re: Pakistan Supreme Court acting Chief Justice is a Hindu
Why would it worry me? I am proud my country is giving chance to mionorites to come forward and work together for Pakistan. Maybe you need to first get your thoughts together and than post what you really need to post. And about Hindus taking all the major postions dude as I said I am proud my country is giving chances to minorities and mind you he is a Pakistani Hindu not Indian Hindu so keep dreaming and have fun.
Re: Pakistan Supreme Court acting Chief Justice is a Hindu
Alright FJ I won’t include you
FJ you got that wrong as others and thats why I included all Indian in my previous post. Its true there is tussle going on between groups to make Pak Islamic but that tussle is on the basis of siding with USA and Israel not because minorities are taking higher positions in Pakistan. In an Islamic state its fine to give higher positions to non-muslims as long as they are loyal to the country so I don’t see any problem.
For this I point to Silly Billy’s post where he provided the link that Bhagwandas is not the only one who has higher position there are other people from minorities as well.

Tell in what sense should Indians should over the appointment of Hindu in a high profile post in Pakistan? It will neither make them happy or worry as long as there is no business for him to do with Indians or Indians in return.
Nobody here is bothered abt whether he took the oath in Gita or Quran and no Indian wants to know that.
You have made the biggest joke of all saying that he is a pakistani hindu but once u coming out of this thread u will call them Indians.
