Yasir Hameed, the opening batsman, has been recalled to Pakistan’s squad for the first two Tests against West Indies while Samiullah Khan, the young left-arm paceman, has also been included.

Hameed, 28, has been ignored by the selectors since June 2005 when he played during the tour of West Indies but his recall had been tipped after Pakistan’s continued problems over finding a successful opening partnership.

Over the last two years they tried 15 different combinations at the top of the order. Hameed will fight for opening birth with Imran Farhat and Mohammad Hafeez, who did the job in Pakistan’s last Test at The Oval, and also Shoaib Malik who missed the series against England.

Samiullah is drafted into the squad following the suspensions handed down to Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif. He toured England but was granted limited opportunities in however, he has been in outstanding form domestically at the start of the season.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, who is serving his four-match ODI ban, will lead the side. West Indies arrive in Lahore on Monday night and the first Test starts on November 11, followed by Multan on November 19.

Pakistan squad: Imran Farhat, Mohammad Hafeez, Yasir Hameed, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Inzamam-ul-Haq (c), Faisal Iqbal, Shoaib Malik, Abdul Razzaq, Kamran Akmal (wk), Danish Kaneria, Samiullah Khan, Shahid Nazir, Abdul Rehman, Umar Gul.

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

Abdul Rehman???????

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

Some of the above will no doubt be back - later in the series against West Indies or on their tour of South Africa.

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

M.Sami's ghost will not leave us. He is still in the squad, ok in another form >> Samiullah

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

I think the same spin bowler sent on tour of Sri Lanka and then sent back without playing a game as chacha Arshad joined the squad.

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

On paper, this team will serve PAK better:
1. Yasir/Hafeez
2. Farhat
3. Younis
4. Yousaf
5. Inzi
6. Malik
7. Razzaq
8. Akmal
9. Gul
10. Samiullah Niazi
11. Kaneria

Though I fear that selection committee will be tempted to go for Shahid Nazir ahead of Samiullah.

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

Why Younis at number 3? He had dismal series, better swap his position with Shoaib Malik.

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

i think Samiullah should be handed a test cap. This chap has been in wonderful form in recent times and i hope he can make an impact on international scene inshallah !

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

No problem.

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

Altough the bowling is inexperienced, but the team looks good. Welcome back Hameed, hopefully he has a great series. Looking forward for Pakistan to bounce back.

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

If memory serves, Afridi wanted a break from Test Matches to concentrate on ODIs.
Now he has got it......albeit involuntarily.

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

:hehe:

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

yep..bowling ka hee tau rona heay....:(
aur yeah danesh kaneria kee jaga koee aur spinner naheen heay hamaray paas?

Re: Pakistan squad for WI series

The good thing is, this series WILL solve our opening problem. So half of the team is good, let us hope they overturn Akhtar and Asif bans and we can start the countdown to World Cup '07.
