Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

**Why reject visas for doctors? **There are reports in the Pakistani media blaming India, principally, for the massive floods, purportedly because New Delhi had deliberately diverted waters from dams in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, and from the ones it "controlled in Afghanistan”. Some reports also charged that US was manipulating weather patterns over Pakistan.

Peace activists fear that the 400 Indian doctors, who were due to arrive in Pakistan to help flood survivors, may be refused visas. **

Under the banner of ‘Aman Kay Barhtay Qadam’, 400 Indian doctors have vowed to come to Pakistan to assist people suffering from diseases at relief camps. The move was proposed at a joint meeting of peace activists from both sides on August 15 in Lahore.
However, they will have to overcome a major hurdle to make goodwill initiative possible – acquire visas.

“There couldn’t be a better time for this to happen, but there are certain sections that do not want peace and I feel that they (Indian doctors) might not get the permission,” said AH Nayyar, president of the Pakistan Peace Coalition (PPC).

“While the Indians are trying to get visas, the attitude of our government suggests that their efforts won’t be encouraged. The Interior and Foreign ministries will both come up with several security related reasons and eventually, the visas will be refused,” he said, adding that unlike the governments, the people of both countries look forward to this cooperation.
Pakistan Medical Association’s Dr Tipu Sultan, who is also the president of the PPC Sindh Chapter, believes the post-flood problems will be of a greater magnitude than the catastrophe itself.

“There will be numerous problems and issues in the aftermath of the floods. Thousands might die of diseases such as gastroenteritis and malaria. These times call for decisions to be made in the interest of the public, he said.

“When we can take aid from the US, China and Brazil, what’s the problem in taking help from India. The Indian doctors coming here to help is a good step towards peace,” Sultan remarked.

Classical dancer Sheema Kirmani, who is part of the Aman Kay Barhtay Qadam initiative and has been campaigning for peace between the two countries for a long time, says it’s a wonderful proposal. “The media reported that we need more doctors to look after the victims so it’s a wonderful opportunity.”
Sharafat Ali, an associate member of PILER – an NGO involved in the peace process, told The Express Tribune that the Indians have proposed to stay in Pakistan from four weeks to four months, depending on how long their help would be required.

“Though Pakistan’s Foreign Office officials have indicated that the country is not inclined toward accepting India’s monetary assistance of $5 million for flood survivors, there is still hope that the doctors from across the border might be allowed to come here for the sake of the survivors,” he said.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

We don't need doctors, all we need from India in this time of trouble to stop supporting Terrorist Outfits in Balochistan and KP...

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

Yeah and let in RAW agents. Smart thinking there Tribune.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

If they want to do charity, why don't these idiots treat the poor in India. Publicity seeking hounds ..

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

it is most troublesome time for Pakistan, one side there is operations against terrorist in every Pakistani city with Afghanistan then the flood, Pakistan is at its most vulnerable point,

but Inida is only offering help, and more help if Pakistan need - not for you fellows

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

I think Pakistan has got enough on its hands atm they would need to send a large security contingent with the Indian docs if they were to be allowed to enter Pakistan and if something happens to them then more bad publicity for Pakistan which it doesn't need.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

Its very easy to comment on India and its 'so called bad deeds' from the safe houses of all those writing in this thread but its very difficult even to empathise with all those trapped in the shackles of devastating flood. This 'Tamashbeen' mentality has made a mess of Pakistan. But NO these self professed commentators would never think of all those trapped but will always play their agendas of hate from their fortified safe heavens{of US, Uk or anywhere outside Pakistan).

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

An excellent gesture by India, Pakistan accepted aid for flood victims should also allow doctors from India to do good work in flood hit areas. I think this is no time for spitting hatred and poison when poor people are suffering.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

doctors have no nationality, their loyalties are towards the injured, sick, suffering victims

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

There are thousands upon thousands of Pakistani doctors here, we are not short on doctors. Government should post them across all the flood affected areas and stop this drama.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

If needed, Indian doctors would be the best choice after Pakistan doctors because of the knowledge of language for most of the part. It would be hard for Doctor Michael Bolton to treat Molvi Allah Ditta without the help of interpreter. Dr. Ranjit Singh can do his job without any help form a 3rd party.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

why the hell india should be worried? See the reaction here ....i dont even understood why we gave 5 million dollars.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

if you think this is bad then check out the "india's offer to be considered" thread........ain't good :p

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

if indians doctors want to help, let them in, why the fuss sheesh
so childish

the letting RAW argument is interesting, RAW cant recruit doctors from other nationalities? and are there not enough of their operatives in Pak already?

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

Should be allowed to help. Will build understanding and respect as well.

Their security might be an issue.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

These indian doctors should be more worried about the thousands of people dying in India and not Pakistan.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

RAW ain’t the CIA, Mosaad or MI6.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

Because our people love to do politics. They dont care about thousands and thousands people dying. They rather let them die then an indian doctor treat them.

Get a life people.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

what security man. Your people are getting beaten to death by their own people in front of law enforcing officers. How much of a threat an indian doctor could bring to us. We are under threat by our own mohalla people.

Re: Pakistan should give visas to Indian doctors who want to help flood victims

Yeah and you lot need to understand realpolitik and the post 9/11 scenario for Pakistan. On one end India wants us to be declared a terrorist state along the lines of Iran, Syria and others. And now they want to send us doctors. Ever read the story regarding the Trojan horse or heard the phrase "wolves in sheep clothing?".

National security should be balanced along the needs of the people.

Consider it just like the US. When Katrina happened they refused aid from Cuba and Venezuela. Now that Pakistan does it you all have your panties in a bunch.
