Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

It cannot be eliminated overnight, but considering Pakistani conditions its a encouraging news that Pakistan is improving its corruption index. i.e. its lesser corruption as compared to other countries.

This is something where it should not only be appreciated but still needs a commitment to finish it completely. Everything takes time but as long as we go in the right direction, it’ll be achieved:

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s ranking in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2014 has improved and the Transparency International (TI), which released the report on Tuesday, has expressed the hope that Islamabad will work more vigorously to combat the menace.
The TI described Pakistan’s CPI score of 29 out of 100 and ranking of 126 among 175 countries as the best. The country has never achieved this distinction since the first CPI was issued in 1995.
Pakistan had secured the score of 28 and was ranked 127th among 177 countries in 2013, according to statistics released by Berlin-based non-profit organisation committed to promoting accountability, integrity and transparency.
``
The report observes that economic growth is undermined and efforts to stop corruption fizzle out when leaders and high-level officials abuse power to misappropriate public funds for personal gain.
In the 20th edition of the CPI, scores for China (36), Turkey (45) and Angola (19) were among the biggest fallers with a drop of four or five points, despite average economic growth of more than four per cent over the last four years.
More than two-thirds of the 175 countries in the CPI-2014 have scored below 50, on a scale from 0 (perceived to be highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). Denmark comes out on top of the list this year with a score of 92 and North Korea and Somalia share last place, scoring just eight.
The scores of several countries rose or fell by four points or more. The biggest falls were in Turkey (-5) and Angola, China, Malawi and Rwanda (-4). The biggest improvers were Côte d´Ivoire, Egypt, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (5) and Afghanistan, Jordan, Mali and Swaziland (4).
China’s score fell to 36 in 2014 from 40 of last year though its government has launched an anti-corruption campaign targeting public officials. The government has recognised the need for holding those officials accountable who hide ill-gotten money abroad.
This January, leaked documents exposed 22,000 offshore clients from China and Hong Kong, including many of the country’s leaders.
The score matches a poor performance by Chinese companies in the TI’s recent report on corporate practices, in which the eight Chinese companies scored less than three out of 10 marks.
Corruption and money laundering are also problems for other BRIC countries – Brazil, India and China.
The report has raised questions over the use of secret companies by a major oil company to bribe politicians in Brazil (which scores 43) and about Indians (38) using bank accounts in Mauritius (54) and Russians (27) doing the same in Cyprus (63).
The TI has called upon countries at the top of the index, in which public sector corruption is limited, to stop encouraging it in other sectors by doing more to prevent money laundering and disallowing secret companies to hide corruption.
While top performer Denmark has strong rule of law and clear rules governing the behaviour of those in public positions, it has also set an example, announcing plans to create a public register, including beneficial ownership information, for companies incorporated in the country.

Surprised to see S.Korea so low!

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

You mean North ? I don't see South on the chart.

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

South K is ranked 46th while North is 175. The lower the ranking, the higher corrupt country is. I'm most impressed with Bhutan reighning over 31st rank above many developed countries.

Good to know the perceptions is improving, there could be many factors behind it… one could be people started to believe that ‘rishwat’ is now a fees ?? Thinking out loud.

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

Lol please don’t embarrass yourself, Imran Khan’s DJ darans didn’t do anything. This is due to PM Nawaz’s economic reform. Imran Khan’s supporters are so desperate to praise him that they give even the current government’s success to him.

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

I think I agree with @TS in that PTI did manage to put huge pressure on the current government officials. That is why they are working. Otherwise, most proably they would be busy looting the country as always instead of delivering. So yes, this change has alot to do with pressure from PTI.

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

Nawaz is known for economic reform and infrastructure projects. Under his leadership the PML-N has always done that and will continue to improve Pak's economy, whether there is an Imran khan dancing in DJ darnas or not.

Nawaz is pretty much ignoring Imran khans nonsense and focusing on the economy.

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

@ukhan99

Im not referring to dharnas but over all pressure from PTI because that in turn has the current government officials under pressure from the top leadership of the country. Keeping all the dhandli aside, without PTI's pressure, these people wouldnt be much concerned about delivering as they are now due to pressure. The changes are really good not seen in the past even during Nawaz government. So, we must give credit to PTI leadership where it is due.

BTW, I have never watched a single telecast of dharna because they appeared silly. Felt more like a concert / entertainment for all Pakistan. And TV channels capitalizing on them by keeping people glued to their channels. So, it all looked quite silly.

But I do give to PTI for keeping the corrupt officials under pressure.

کتنے بھوکوں کو میٹرو بس کی مفت سیر کروانے سے بھوک غربت کم ہو گی?

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

PTI is doing all this to get into power - not to improve governance in Pakistan!

If this was what they wanted to do, they would be concentrating all their resources and energy on KP governance.

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

@TheRealDeal

Possible... as PTI is affected by very ill advice. Considering so many thugs joining PTI which has completely changed the vibes you used to get from PTI. These dirty people have brought with them bad energy to the party. So yes, those greedy people or spies are giving very bad advice to the top leadership most probably to get in power.

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

Agree, and this is what we can expect if PTi get in power.

A couple years ago, Imran made a speech in Karachi saying he would ‘end corruption in 90 days’ if Pti was in power. It has been almost 2 yrs in KP, and it is the same!

Re: Pakistan ranking in corruption index improves

@TheRealDeal

I understand that that claim was about ridding the corruption from the top order of the government. I heard imran khan saying that in some of his interviews. And he said the promise (Exactly what he had promised) was fulfilled.
