Being in majority doesn’t mean you don’t need to own and promote your language. You might be surprised to know that Punjabi publications in Pakistan over 7 decades is hardly 1000 books. While Indian Punjab produces such quantity in a year or two. Punjabi scholars went on say that when you got a refined version of Punjabi (Urdu), then what is the need of using primary Version (original Punjabi). With such attitude, languages don’t flourish, they just decline. There is another argument for shunning Punjabi in Pakistan as compared to Indian Punjab which says that Sikhs got their Granth Sahib in Punjabi so they need to learn, read and write Punjabi, Pakistani Punjabi didn’t get such requirement. With this attitude, Punjabis couldn’t translate Quran in Punjabi only until around a decade back. Khalida Hussain, a writer from Punjab and Punjabi herself, covered this in her novel by taunting ‘Khuda ko Punjabi samajh nahin aati’.

I don’t know, Pakistani Punjabis are being attacked from every other province, promoting their culture is the last thing on their mind.
