Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

I don’t think that It’s such a big deal that Pakistan is shown as a dog in this cartoon. It is normal for US newspapers to put stuff like that but Pakistanis are not used to such kind of freedom of press. So they are making a big deal out of it. I would have liked that cartoon even more if they had labeled the dog “Musharraf” instead of Pakistan.

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

Aren’t we overeacting a bit, I just heard it on Geo News.

There was also mentioned of desecration of the HOLY QUR’AAN by bastrad Americans in Guantánamo Bay, can somebody confirm this for me please??? :mad3:

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

nationality matters only to kuffar, musilms are known only as muslims…

And strive hard in Allâh’s Cause as you ought to strive. He has chosen you, and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship, it is the religion of your father Ibrahim. It is He (Allâh) Who has named you muslims both before and in this (the Qur’ân), that the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) may be a witness over you and you be witnesses over mankind! So perform AsSalât (Iqamat-as-Salât), give Zakât and hold fast to Allâh * He is your Maula (Patron, Lord, etc.), what an Excellent Maula (Patron, Lord, etc.) and what an Excellent Helper! (Al-Hajj 22:78)

Cartoonist says he didn’t want to offend Pakistan

By Our Correspondent

WASHINGTON, May 9: The Washington Times cartoonist who made the derogatory cartoon that caused uproar in Pakistan said on Monday he never intended to offend the Pakistani nation. “It’s a cultural gap, a cultural misunderstanding that caused the uproar,” said Bill Garner while talking to Dawn.

He said the reaction to his cartoon was entirely different than what he had expected and he would now be sensitive to the feelings of the people of Pakistan while making cartoons about US-Pakistan friendship in future.

“The symbol to me was that of friendship … there’s a saying in English that a dog is the man’s best friend,” said Mr Garner while explaining why he used a dog to depict Pakistan’s role in the war against terror.

He said the US Army has a canine corps, dogs are used for police work, also at airports to find drugs … there has always been a great friendship with animals, particularly dogs, in America.” He said when he showed a dog bringing in a terrorist he did it “in the spirit of goodwill and friendship that exists between the two countries.”

:rotfl! that’s supposed to mollify the pakistanis already hopping mad as wet hen? …:rotfl:](“http://dawn.com/2005/05/10/top13.htm”)

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

^^ Don't worry, Pakistanis are very generous and have forgiven far greater transgressions....If they can be duped into acting like a dog, then they can also be made to believe that they are not acting as such....

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

^ Right on.

Besides, I think the apology by the cartoonist is more offensive than the cartoon.

With clowns like Busharraf in charge, one only expect Pakistan to become the laughing stock of the international community.

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

:rotfl: are you for real?

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

I don't think Pakistan should make a big deal out of it after the clearification by the Cartoonist. I have a friend and once she told me that she has a daughter...I tought daughter daughter but she brought this female dog and was talking about it like its her baby. The reaction and emotions were very shocking to me, it was like she was ready to cry for her or do anything possible. I think it is a cultural lag that is making the problem not the intentions.

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

This cartoonist is a complete idiot. I have lived in the US for yeas, and even in the US, implying that your some one is a dog is a big insult. Dogs are loved, but no one would ever imply that somone else were a dog. This guy is just trying to save his own a$$ from looking bad. Pakistanis shouldnt fool themselves into thinking this is ok...
If I were Musharaf, I would blow this cartoon up, have it framed, and then hang it in my office just as a reminder.

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

Its another matter that we, as a nation, feel offended by the cartoon, but if one looks closely enough, it very accurately portrays the reality behind Pakistan's role in the so-called 'war against terrorism'. Its a harsh reality and the world knows about it, then why are we making such a big fuss out of it? The Pakistani government and Musharraf are acting like a dog for US simply because they have no other option.

The cartoon would have been even more precise had the dog been labeled as 'Pakistani Government' or 'Musharraf' and tied with a chain held by the soldier, because I also admit that the cartoon does not truly reflect the true spirit of Pakistan as a nation, however, as far as the government is concerned, I think its perfectly legitimate. Well I am not trying to condemn the government or Musharraf here, as I know that they dont have a better option. I just want to say that I see nothing wrong with the cartoon as it surely represents the clear picture of reality and the truth and I wonder why do we always decline to accept it?

welcome to the forum, mkhan@ntu.

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

But Americans call each other ‘Dog’ all the time.

“Hey dog, whats up?”

It is affectionate

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

Don't be too sensitive to this sort of crap people.

After 9/11 there were many much more offensive cartoons, including those showing President Bush being humped by Osama Bin Laden. Did you see Bush making such a big deal about it, depsite the obvious political statement it was making as well?

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

Yeah, if you are pimp or a wannabe gangsta…No self respecting and law abiding member of the society would address others in that vernacular…

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

Where did you see that in Playboy or Hustler…

Re: Pakistan protests at derogatory cartoon

Black people call each other “Dog” and that too only because snoop dog made it popular. Anyways, the conotation is different when they say that. This cartoon is implying that we are America’s dogs.. BIG difference
