Thank You! we are not dying to come to this summit, and its funny that how they are inviting UAE countries to talk about Afghanistan’s future and not Pakistan!
this is nothing, but pressure tactics used by US as usual just to force us to reopen NATO routes and what seems to me, within few weeks, NATO supply routes will reopen! A Cabinet meeting has already been called to discuss nato route opening, no expectations from our spineless leader to stick to their earlier stance.
no formal apology will be given, drone strikes will continue, US will keep on bullying us, everything will remain the same!
**KARACHI: Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has urged Pakistan once again to reopen Nato ground supply routes to Afghanistan, DawnNews reported.
**
However, Rasmussen also said on Friday that Pakistan had not been invited to the crucial 25th Nato summit to be held in Chicago.
The May 20-21 two-day summit, with over 60 heads of state and governments expected to be in attendance, will be the biggest Nato summit in history.
The Nato chief said Pakistan’s name was not in the list of countries invited to the conference. Moreover, countries including Russia, China and India had also not been invited to the event.
Qatar, Morocco, United Arab Emirates and Jordan are among a few of the countries to be attending the conference.
All eyes will be on Chicago later this month as crucial developments regarding Afghanistan’s future and the role of Nato forces in the region are expected to come out of the conference.
Earlier in April, diplomatic sources had told Dawn that the US hopes Pakistan will reopen supply routes before President Asif Ali Zardari arrives in Chicago to attend the summit.
The US would welcome Pakistan’s “potential participation” in the Nato summit, White House deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes had said.
“And obviously, the United States expects Mr Zardari to reopen the supply routes before the summit as it would be too embarrassing for him to attend a Nato meeting while his forces are blocking Nato supply lines,” said an official dealing directly with the summit.
Re: Pakistan not invited to Chicago summit: Nato chief
This is really a bad news.
America/Europe is flexing their economical & diplomatic muscle. We will be lucky if Pakistan can able to stand for next 2 weeks.
Nato supplies will be open in 10 to 15 days. Mark my words.
Re: Pakistan not invited to Chicago summit: Nato chief

How exactly countries like Qatar, Morocco, UAE and Jordan can help bring peace to Afghanistan? If the US is pinning hopes on these countries to fix Afghan issue, then it only God can help it.
Re: Pakistan not invited to Chicago summit: Nato chief
In urdu it's called something like Shy cat scratches the pole.
If our leaders have some self respect, they should reply to this news with an answer that if this summit invitation was with the condition of NATO routes being opened, then, no one was dying to come any way. But I know that our great leaders will open the routes soon.
Re: Pakistan not invited to Chicago summit: Nato chief
You are right :k: Wonderful phrase in urdu: Khisyaani billi khamba nochey
In English: Barking up the wrong tree
Everything will now be conditional up opening of Nato routes from here on. Does it ring any bell in the corridors of power that someone has its foot on someone’s tail?
I do not want to take any satisfaction out of this situation because it won’t be long when the US retaliation will begin to eat into our pride. As they say that beggars cannot choosers, we are actually not all that independent to take decisions as freely as any other sovereign country will do as a routine matter.
We like or not, the routes have to be opened and we may even have to guarantee safe delivery of the goods from Karachi to Afghan borders. President Obama said yesterday that the world had to face the recession because it did not listen to the US. You can replace ‘world’ with Pakistan.
Re: Pakistan not invited to Chicago summit: Nato chief
US/NATO has completly lost their senses, they are clueless, they are literally begging Pakistan to reopen nato routes, trying every trick to build more pressure on Pakistan!!!
I dont understand, if we cant fight this war on our own terms, isnt it better to we get out of this so called war on terror, that has cost us so much, why should we protect their national interests and what do we get in return, drone strikes, mistrust, bullying???

yeh.... also do not forget they have food crises, water shortage, security problems, electricity shortage, balance of payments crisis and on top of that bomb blasts & drones attacks every other day in Europe & America.
don't forget to approve aid package for Europe, they are starving you know.

It's a Catch-22 for Pakistan. The US does not want anyone to fix the problem for it. Though, if properly trusted, Pakistan can fix Afghan issue without any further bloodshed without needing Qatar, Morocco, UAE and Jordan!
The amount of money and the number of lives the US has lost in this so-called war against terror, it wants to wear the crown of credit undivided. Stubbornness will only make this madness last longer. That's it.

then why these desperate attempts to try every trick on Pakistan to reopen nato routes?
and many of these severe issues that you brought it up have come after our alliance with them on this so called war. bomb blast/drone strikes were unknown in Pakistan before 9/11..Nato occupation of Afghanistan has dragged Pakistan towards civil war.. our economy has suffered big time, we have lost 60 billion$ in the last ten years. I agree our leaders are incompetent and they literally made things alot worse, but some of these chaos is certainly created by US and its time they acknowledge their responsibilty, rather than bullying Pakistan.
as for aid, I think its a myth that US is helping Pakistan and alot of money is going into Pakistan, they have only given us 20 billion dollars so far, which ofcourse does not reaches a common person, and I dont think I have ever met or seen any Pakistan who cares about US aid, they all want to to live with dignity, see Pakistan as a Independent country, than be dependent on foreign aid.

so true.
its a dangerous game and our spineless leaders will not resist much longer, nato routes will reopen within few days! :(

blah blah.
i am standing by my words, supplies will be open in 2/3 weeks.
Re: Pakistan not invited to Chicago summit: Nato chief
I work in Downtown Chicago, and many employees are gonna be either working from home that week or from our DR location due security concerns as there will protestors all over the place and the city police would be ready for anything. Downtown Chicago has been declared no fly zone during the week of summit.
Re: Pakistan not invited to Chicago summit: Nato chief
Bhaiyo, I haz a kuvestion.
Does Pakistan really stand a chance against the US? I keep hearing our leaders have to stand up to them and I totally agree. Pakistan said cut the drone attacks, stop killing civilians. US said errr no, tough s***. Pakistan stops NATO supplies, US starts putting pressure on Pakistan. So what choice does Pakistan have? Take panga with the US and take on more BS from them? Let me put the question this way.... if Pakistan keeps resisting, what is the price that they might have to pay for that? Will it be bombed "back to the stone age" or what? Is it in Pakistan's best interest to comply with the US demands or not?

No need of bombing us "back to the stone age", they will just cut our monetary lifeline. Some curbs on a sovereign nation like us will be more than enough to bring us 'back on track.'
Re: Pakistan not invited to Chicago summit: Nato chief
I seriously doubt monetary lifeline cut kar k US ko chaen ajae ga. Pakistan will have to pay a bigger price than that. I am not justifying the fact that our leaders are bheegi billis.... I'm just wondering if they're just trying to avoid a S storm that might come our way if we don't comply.

This government unfortunately inherited the status of chapraasi by former dictators who only knew how to kiss the @ss of uncle Sam. PPP government has to face wrath from public and stupid army who initially made this decision to shut the route. They have no courage to reverse this decision and waiting for Zardari to decide and get sh!te from public instead of army. Zardari should open this route without delay and should not care what will happen to its future. These B****ters now playing anti-US baja when come to power will kiss the behind of Sam without any sharm aor haya as in the past.
