Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, India

Pakistan is building a third plutonium production reactor at a major nuclear weapons center, a sign of plans to increase the nation’s nuclear arsenal significantly.

The more powerful weapons, which use plutonium instead of highly enriched uranium – currently Pakistan’s principal nuclear explosive material – would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, India, which also possesses nuclear arms

Pakistan may be heading for a nuclear arms race that could lead to arsenals growing into the hundreds of nuclear weapons, or at minimum, vastly expanded stockpiles of military fissile material.

Well, India should too beef up its program then. No country has enough nuclear weapons until they exceed the US's stockpile (25,000+). No country would have carried enough nuclear tests until they have matched the number of tests done by Americans (500+ tests, ranging from 1 Kiloton yield of TNT, to 100 Megatons).

So, go forth and prosper people of the world. Build the nukes and blow yourselves up. Because if you dont then someone else will.

hmm

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

hmm indeed

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

Pakistan only needs as many cities there are in India...
India on its part on needs about 4 to hit all majore cities..
Still, all the more reason to not go to war ever again.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

Well, the 25,000 Nukes that USA had was at the very peak of the Cold War. Those nuclear warheads have been reduced by the START treaty signed by Russia and USA. Both have around 5,000 Nukes.

As for Pakistan and India are concerned. Neither have enough Nukes to destroy each other unlike USA and USSR during Cold War. I guess once they reach that threshold they might scale back as well.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

Why do we need to target cities?

We should concentrate on making Tactical Nukes and fire them on troop concentrations and enemy formations.

Targeting cities is the very last thing that we should do.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

I dont know, useing a Nuke would be the end no matter what you target... But even thenm why would the enemy make their troops so easy to target? If I were the Indians, I would get the troops as deep into Pak terrirtory as possible as fast as possible. Lahore is only 15-30 mins drive from the border, how long would it take for Indians to cross the border and get close enough to lahore, to the point where useing a Nuke would be impossible without destroying Lahore?
And are enemy formations so large that we need to waste a Nuke to destroy them?
The Nuke is designed to inflict massive damage, if one were to be used, I doubt it would be used to target ground troops... Thats why we have F16s and Cruise missles no?
Anyways, I doubt the threat is in inflicting damage on troops.. I think its an unstated fact on both sides that Nukes are intended to attack cities.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

whats the chain of command for the paki nukes? is it with the army or the government or some other agency? and what has happened to AQ Khan anyway?

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

If Pakistan can rip away from India, it sure as hell can protect itself.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

These new reactors are for 2nd strike capability and physically smaller nukes to fit on Babur..

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

its a sad bad world when amount of weapons make nations feel secure.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

True true... But as ironic as it may sound, Nukes may actually help in preventing war...

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

US currently has about 10,000 and Russia has over 7,000 nuclear weapons.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

AQ Khan is enjoying his life in a huge mansion that looks like a five star hotel. But recently he has been recovering from cancer.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

Absolutely. No country with nukes has ever been attacked yet except British island of Falklands seven thousand miles away from Britain.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

more power to iran's programme then :D

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

I doubt Iran would ever use these weapons... But it will force certain other nations to start respecting it a little more, at least out of fear if nothing else.

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

reminds me of a caller on bbc radio the guy said if every country in the world had nukes world would become a much safer place, the us defence person replied i think you mean dangerous. to which she received oh yeah? then why dont you guys set an example by joining south africa and letting go of all nukes

Re: Pakistan new weapons would do greater damage to the large cities of its rival, In

How do these reactors provide a second strike capability when they will be hit on the first go?

Do you even know what a second or third strike capability is? :omg:

I guess Pakistan’s second strike capability is in the air force but then an air force enthusiast on another board claimed that neither PAF nor IAF have that capability since their nukes aren’t that small yet. For babar, I believe the ideal capability would be that it can be fired from our subs like israel but then there are issues. First, we don’t have the sub launch capability for babar yet. Second, we don’t know if the nukes have been made small enough to fit on the cruise missile.
